Just to be Critical... :-) Critical Role should be VERY TIGHT with the money raised. I am not saying they should be stingy. For instance, their crew & staff should be given nice bonuses. But the money should be kept a careful watch on: • Any spending should require at least two signatories. • Since many of the assets & programming will be built during the first two/three episodes, future episodes should cost less. • Do NOT indulge on a "dream cast". Instead of paying a lot of money to Mark Hamill (to voice Vecna), Steven Colbert, etc.; that money should go to creating another episode instead. Basically, be smart with the money, and STRETCH it as far as possible. Basically, I want to watch more episodes, instead of watching the money being frivolously spent.
@@RPGmodsFan agreed, but given the folks we're dealing with; we cannot expect less than that. Currently they have a disgusting sum to work with. I feel you bro. With the amoumt currently crowdsourced, which I will not specify here; things could get out of hand. But it won't. Despite monsieur O'Briens' regular insistence; these are are a group of highly intelligent friends. We'd be right, and not disappointed to expect the best.
For those coming to this after watching the show. This was supposed to be a Q&A to advertise their kickstarter the day after it started (less than 12 hours). They were asking for $750k, and gave themselves 45 days to reach that. They had some stretch goals. They reached their goal within the first hour. By the time this was broadcasting they were around $3million. They ended up with over $11 million, which set the record for Kickstarter for film and animation projects. At that point they were planning for a whole season of 10 episodes. Soon after, they went looking for a distributor. Amazon Prime picked up the show and said they should do two seasons of 12 episodes each. This was after having been turned down by pretty much everyone before the Kickstarter. You can understand why they're stunned.
I like to see the look on the face of everyone that turned them down , now. With Season one being a mega hit , Season two being a mega hit. And M9 coming along.
I love how Matt has the face of someone walking a dog to get over his anxiety only to realize he's holding a leash attached to a fighter jet that's taking off at full speed.
I just came back to re-watch this and I realized something. They said the Grog Beard wouldn't be a thing because it would be a level 7 adventure. BUT if they are doing the Briarwood arc now, WE WILL HAVE THE BEARD
I just imagine Vex'ahlia sitting in a room in Whitestone counting millions and millions of gold coins while Doty 2.0 is furiously drawing sketch after sketch after sketch after sketch after sketch.......
imagine telling a 2013 matt that the thing he loves and is passionate about will become one of the biggest shows on the internet THE biggest dnd show so big that people will hand over 11 million just to a animate his dnd game
Hamill is like cartoon royalty, especially villains. He's been in enough that I'm sure he can spot a potential hit when he sees it. Of course he's going to try and be a part of it
Stretch Goal: De Rolo One shot with Taliesin as the DM. The cast are all the children (or possibly granchildren) of Vex and Percy, who go on their own Goonies style adventure after finding a secret in their castle.
I can imagine the ending of these animations as being Pumat Sol narating as he closes the book he was just reading the story from, looking up, and seeing The Mighty Nein walking into his shop. XD
I know Matt said that he would maybe feel a bit uncomfortable officially voicing Gilmore, since he is a PoC, but honestly...Matt IS Gilmore. It wouldn't feel right coming from anybody else :(
I think it's cool he shows consideration, the industry only benefits from diversity. However, he literally is all the NPC's and Gilmore MUST be voiced by Matt, there's no other way.
@@sbollimpalli I can recall , was eating cereal when the kickstarter news landed and was like "750K ? That's fucking insulting". Gave em half my paycheck at the time.
As someone who knew nothing until I watched the Amazon show in 2022, I'm so happy this all happened. Thank you, critters, for paving the path for people like me! So proud to be a critter myself, and I'm halfway through Campaign 1. One day I may catch up.
Welcome and bidet, baby critter:) There's no rush with catching up. Really all you're missing is a somewhat insane Twitch chat and having to wait a week after every nasty cliffhanger. Enjoy the time when it's always Thursday for you. Yes, the speculation and fanart on Twitter is quite cool and that you _should_ stay away from for now if you don't want to get spoiled on major and minor things (people can and do talk about things that happened 5 years ago as if they were yesterday), but other than that I say just buckle in and enjoy the ride:)
@@Trintron46 @TrinTron464 Very nice! Getting there! Binging is a live choice! 😂 Only 120-ish episodes of C2, ExU (+ExU Kymal & Calamity) , some VM and MN One Shots and (already) over 50 episodes of c3 until you are caught up! 🤣 It's so much. But it is all so good. I caught up while they were doing ExU and actually started rewatching both Campaigns parallel to the start of C3 and the animated series. Seeing the Briarwood-Arc play out in Animation made me nostalgic enough to want to see it all again... 😅 I have a problem... 🤣 At the moment, I am at C2 Ep 52 right after they announced the Kickstarter for TLoVM the first time after the liveshow for the "Search for Grog" -one shot. I just cant get enough of them... 😅
Critical Role Land, with wacky fun rides such as: Keyleth's Cliffdive, Scanlans Magnificent Mansion, and Vex's magic carpet ride! Stop by Gilmore's Glorious Giftshop, throw daggers with Vax for fun prizes, and know true terror in Haunted Castle Whitestone!
Does anyone else keep coming back to this video? Seeing a bunch of people realise they're accomplishing their dreams and going all loopy for an hour from pure joy just never fails to put a smile on my face. And I rarely smile.
lotsoninjas the pure speed at which the money is coming in is fucking INSANE. Already near 5.3 million. By the end of the next 2/3 days we will probably be past 6!
you guys remember when they first announced that they had t-shirts available? and before they even finished telling us about it they were sold out? Yeah. This community has been pretty strong since the start.
Remember when Ashley crunched the numbers, and companies decided that $750,000 was too much to take a chance on, because it was based off of a DND game? I wonder how they feel now, knowing the Critters did not flinch about flinging 7 million at these guys.
I only recently got to watch The Legend of Vox Machina, but this was so fun. CR: "we would like to make an animation short" Critters: "More." CR: "we raised enough to make a whole 10 ep story arc." Critters: "MORE!" CR: "Amazon got us, it's now 12 episodes, and we got renewed for next seasons." Critters: "We will not stop until all campaigns are animated!"
CR: We want to raise $750,000. We don’t know if we can do it but if we can you’ll get an animated short! Honestly though I don’t think we can get there but we’ll try anyway! Critters: Hold my mead...
I love how they saw they hit $3.5m during the stream, Matt freaked out. They...they ended up hitting fucking 12 MILLION DOLLARS. This is actually why this community is the best on the planet.
@@HoaxNess Yeah, I picture lots of making Vax sound like a moron and lots of everyone talking about how amazing Grog is, and lots of literal "Blah, Blah, Blah"s (like the adults in the peanuts cartoons) during exposition/planning...
I think the level of shock also probably has something to do with this being the first big thing CR-related that critters globally would want to fork over money for. Past things, like live shows, D&D related stuff like dice or minis, have more limited appeal. Going to go out on a limb and suggest there are a whole lot of critters out there in Smalltown, Countryname who don't (or can't) play D&D and for whom the live shows are far out of reach. But throwing down some cash for a Vox Machina animated special? Yeah, I can see a huge portion of the fanbase getting on board for that.
Roll for fundraising. Natural 20! Ok. Roll a charisma saving roll to see if u get stunned by its effect... Yeah... no. Natural 1... (Skip to 0:00 to see effect)
"Will this be kid-friendly?" Yeah sure, especially the Briarwood arc with the very beginning at dead Suntree and the fake Vox Machina hanging on it, with kids portraying the gnomish characters. SUUUUURE. :D
@@sybariticcupboardrat3763 Watching that arc right now, just less than 2 weeks till Campaign 3 starts. Don’t forget about the guy they blew the head off of, and then tore out another man’s tongue and cauterized it with a hot gun. Or a vampire having it’s head bitten off by a bear (gotta love Trinket)
What counts as kid friendly? The sheer amount of swear words alone, and then the things Sam says, and then the briarwoods like you mentioned, not to mention Percy being a bit of a “blow up his ear” guy.
You all saved my life years ago when I was in a bad depression. This show gave my brain an escape when I needed it the most by diving into a great story and falling with love with all of you. Thank you and I hope you all have many more years of success and growth.
This reminds me of the first time they sold a shirt and it was sold out before they finished the announcement for it. Since than they underestimate our love for them and their content every time ^^
Honestly one of the biggest things I took away from this is holy crap are hollywood executives about 30 years behind on the times. Like seriously how if your in entertainment do you not understand how big of a platform Twitch and TH-cam are when they regularly pull in the same amount of viewers as your highest rated shows and do so on a literal fraction of the cost
Or, "are video games a business?" when many of them blow blockbuster movies out of the water in revenue, less in production costs, and, Most Important, _must hold the customers' interests for dozens if not hundreds of hours._ Let's see Feige & Marvel keep people hooked on one purchase for a 700-hour playtime!
That's because they're money people. If you show them proof that a show about kicking puppies will be popular and turn a profit, they'll go for it. The thing doesn't matter, just the money.
And here we are today with the announcement of the Mighty Nein series and movie talk. A long journey that we are still on with these amazing nerdy voice actors.
@@mordirit8727 Yeah that's like saying "Taliesin can make great crow sounds, surely he can do an elephant too!!" like no, that's Liam. Let Liam play the elephant. Let a bear actor play the bear.
We are the Critter hive mind! We are Legion! Critical Role does deserve this though. You guys have brought DnD to the lives of old and new players and dunegon masters alike the world over.
This video is such a guilty pleasure. Content creators that truly deserve their fandom being confronted by how much their content is loved and being unsure how to react. this is a wonderful representation of their humility meeting the representation of their fandom.
Also, MATT!!! DON'T YOU *DARE* GIVE UP GILMORE! DON'T YOU *DARE* LET *ANYONE* ELSE VOICE HIM! I can understand other characters you created, and i think you should co-direct so that the outside voice actors can get tips and directions from YOU on how to voice and act your character, but Gilmore? No. He is yours, and your VOICE is his. The sultry drawl you pull out fits him. Its HIM. Its not so much that he's your character, you're just-- him. Out of all of the characters you voiced throughout the campaign, there have been a handful, that i feel, that didn't feel like a DM voicing different characters, but that WAS the character, and that was the fabulous Gilmore, and the eccentric gunpower selling Victor. XD BUT! I will not discourage you to playing ANY of YOUR characters, because out of ANYONE, you deserve and have the MOST right to play them. I love that you're worried about backlash from stupid fans thinking you can't play him, because you're white and he's not, and also i love, love, love that you're willing to let others play your characters, to give them the justice they deserve. I have full faith the Legion of Critical Role will be able to fully fund the entire of Vox Machina. And i can't wait to rewatch those funny psychos reenact their adventures, full time, with no pauses as their players figure out if they hit or not. XD
Please watch the "Between the sheets" episode with Logic. Your passion is appreciated, your dictating is unnecessary. Most if not all critters agree Mercer is Gilmore inside and out. Thank you for your dedication to an amazing cast/crew. 🤗
I agreed with you up until the stupid part. PoC haven’t gotten hired for things that they should have been hired for simply because they are PoC. Its gotten better from the age of blackface in movies, but it’s still not there. Someday, we’ll get to a point where we won’t have to have the conversation anymore. Where we will be living in MLK’s dream of true equality. The same goes for the LGBT community. We are tropes. We are often hired as tropes or when someone comes out as bi, it’s criticized as an attention grab instead of what it really is. Acknowledging we exist. We are not there yet. We are not at true equality. So there are times where sacrifices should be made. That said, Gilmore is Matt Mercer. Confident, but still an outsider. Supremely knowledgeable. And maybe a little in love with Liam. I mean Vax. I mean.... :)
@@ebucwalter It's more than a little telling that rather than agree/disagree with Matt's concern over this one specific thing, all these Critters are letting their ignorance flag fly flee.
I'm not going to bother writing a long response to this, but Elizabeth said it well. I do think Matt should play Gilmore, but he isn't trying to appease any "stupid fans" by pointing out that he would be a white person playing a POC. I don't know if you've noticed, but the cast cares a lot about inclusion, and they're all the better for it. Representation isn't dumb, and thinking otherwise indicates that you already have it. Let others have theirs.
I will say this: If a foolish samurai warrior wielding a magic sword who needs to get back to the past can be voiced by a black guy, and it has become so iconic that I couldn’t imagine anyone else doing it, Matt can definitely voice Gilmore. I know he’ll voice him, because there are some roles that transcend everything else.
Well over 2 years later I still find myself coming back to this video, there is something visceral about how they were so immediately effected by the success of the kickstarter. Knowing now where it ended and what they have already achieved with what they have shown, seeing these 4 do their best to let everyone know they are gonna do their best with the special, not even knowing they will soon have a series instead. For new and old Critters alike this video is constant good vibes.
Travis and Sam: joking about Amazon, Netflix, or Hulu to take this project Me in 2021: rolling on the floor laughing and getting ready my amazon prime account
What's wild to think about is, if all 364k+ subscriber's on yt alone just donated $30 each they would be up to 10mil+, thats not even counting twitch subscribers. On a side note I hope you guy's don't feel overly anxious and scared about reaching some ludicrous expectation, we donate because we love you guy's and what you do, no matter what it is we know you'll put your heart and soul into it and we'll love it.
Here is a stretch goal idea: a whole day session like you had before the internet show, you've said you missed those sessions. I know I said this on multiple platform or videos but I figured that if I say it often enough the change of it being picked up is higher :)
I have a feeling that they will have to cut out some chunks to push the 22 mins per episode. Besides, it looks like they want to cut Tiberius out anyway.
Not likely, not at this point anyway. Mercer & Co pitched $750k/episode, that ain't cheap. Even if the cost were halved it still would've been a hard sell. Media outlets have to think about how they're going to recoup their costs and that isn't a slam dunk. In a couple years they might rethink their attitude if it does well, but looking at it from their point of view, they have to think about how to make a profit off an expensive animation series targeted at a relative niche market audience. A successful crowdfunding campaign isn't going to move the needle much. Once released, if this series gets many millions of views, that will make their pitch for the next series many times stronger and get more interest. For now, it's a very expensive pet project that the community decided to shell out for.
@@ROYBGP Not really. You're conflating fund raising with profits. Not sure what the plan is to make money from this, but if they do make a pile of money then there will be interest. Raising a pile of cash is noteworthy, but all it is at this point is break-even, the production costs are covered. To make money they need to sell the final product to the non-backers. If they prove there's money to be made on these types of projects and a sizeable audience, then Hollywood will show interest, not before.
@@twogruden9943 considering they are the best funded tv and film project on Kickstarter and that the KS had pretty incredible engagement, with 88,887 backers raising 11.38 Million, they likely aren't so much kicking themselves as lining up to bid on any continuation that TLoVM might have (especially if the first season does well wherever it sees release), the fact that the cast are all in the industry (and therefore safe) and that they have shown how loyal their fans are is hugely important to studios.
@@connorblack99 Only if they prove they can make money. So far they've only proved they can raise money, and it seems TH-camrs have a very hard time understanding how that differentiates. Show me a production company making a deal with CR for the rights and you have something. I'll be waiting. Meanwhile, go back and read my comment about the production costs. Here's something else to consider: There's nothing to stop CR from making a deal with a production company for the current series. If you follow what Epic has done with crowd funded games, the same thing could happen here where a company offers Mercer & Co some money and get the whole production for much less than what was raised. I doubt they'd do that, but there's nothing to stop them. Then the company could decide how it's distributed.
I like to figure it went down like this: *CR starts Kickstarter campaign* 15 mins later KS: hey, sorry to bother you but we have………an issue CR: oh dear. What’s wrong? KS: the sites down. CR: oh no! Hopefully we can still make our goal! KS: Uhhhhh……what did you set that at again? CR: oh 750,000. We wanted to not aim too high. What’s it at now? A few bucks? KS: A few million CR: a few what now?
I'm white... and I still agree. I wouldn't mind someone of color voicing it... but... Gilmore is MATTHEW MERCER's character. It NEEDS him. :-) Skin color doesn't matter in animation. It NEEDS the originator of the voice.
Honestly i dont understand this entire concept of PoC having to voice characters of color. Feels like when you limit who can voice a character all your doing is reducing that character down to their race which is a massive diservice to the character as a whole. Just my opinion mind you but the role should always go to whoever can voice them the best and capture the essence of the character
@@TheSilverPhoenix100 I partially agree with you. The /thing/ about V.O. is that you get to play characters that you don't look like. But the other hand is trying to make sure people of color aren't given less opportunities than white people
I have one request... MAKE US WAIT!!! I personally feel like if we have to wait another few weeks to get an episode because a specific voice actor isnt available or there are animation difficulties ( I know ABSOLUTELY nothing about what it takes to makes tv animation!) Don't be afraid to make us wait longer. WEVE WAITED THIS LONG!! We can wait a bit longer for the episode to be the way there are ment to be. Love y'all!!!
This idea is absolute nonsense on _so_ many levels. Why would a brown American be more fitting than a white American to play a fictional character from a fictional world, just because that character happens to have dark skin? It literally makes no sense whatsoever.
Issues with Matt playing someone just because his skin happens to be a different colour? A voice is a voice - even if there were many racist critters (which seems unlikely considering the general attitudes) - that's just silly. Voices don't have skin, therefore skin colour is irrelevant. Please be Gillmore, Matt.
Yes... this was from a year ago, (sorry, I just recently started scrolling comments on videos I watch....) BUT!!!! imagine giving all the players a different stat sheet for the bosses they faced in the last campaign to see how they would play the villains!?! All of these talented people would have to come up with ideas and strategies almost totally on the fly, because you know there are very few bosses that Matt showed 100% of the cards for in game!

God damn it, you killed me dude
Critical Role Cast: "Here's our Stretch Goal..."
Critters: "Hold my Blood Ale."
They're basically Gods, but unlike , someone hasn't realised it.
Just to be Critical... :-) Critical Role should be VERY TIGHT with the money raised. I am not saying they should be stingy. For instance, their crew & staff should be given nice bonuses. But the money should be kept a careful watch on:
• Any spending should require at least two signatories.

@@jackmack4181 - Y'know what, I hadn't considered that.
And now we have Mighty Nein coming up in the future.
God i hope Amazon commissioned more seasons

XD
BUT!
No longer are we simple critters of the woods. Now we are the Critical Legion!
DeathByChair No, more like a kingdom.
No we are the critical nation
Derek Dumas Maybe even..... AN EMPIRE! nah that’s probably to far.
The critical municipality?
Coming back now when they get to "Is the animated special going to be kid friendly" and just fucking dying of laughter
*Dumping Delilah’s body into the acid*
😂😂😂yeah. It's a lot of things, but kid-friendly it is not.
I gotta say, watching them dissociate for an hour over how successful their kickstarter was is incredibly heartwarming
Travis and Sam: joking about Amazon, Netflix, or Hulu to take this project
Me in 2021: rolling on the floor laughing and getting ready my amazon prime account
Better content than video games.
i mean pretty sure we donate cuz
1 we fking love them
2 this show is awesome
3 the idea of dnd animation sounds awesome
4 the clip looked awesome
@@StressfulGengar right?
I just keep getting this image in my head of Critters everywhere all simultaneously throwing money at the KS page on their monitors...AND IT WORKED!!
Here is a stretch goal idea: a whole day session like you had before the internet show, you've said you missed those sessions. I know I said this on multiple platform or videos but I figured that if I say it often enough the change of it being picked up is higher :)
Make it a charity stream. It's been a while since they (or G&S) have done one of those.
Here after the MN announcement, never has matt's "fuck it let's animate it all" at 1:07:49 been more relevant
$5.5 million.
In 2 days.
Out of 45 days.
holy shit, considering people will potentially donate less and less... we may have 15- 20 mill at the end. holy shit..
As Travis said so eloquently:
BOOSH
"FUCK YOUR STRETCH GOALS!"
Currently just shy of 10 million with 39 days to go.
By the end of the Kickstarter they'll be able to have an entire show funded alongside a theme park and a live action movie
A-mazing
Hear me out guys, the cow episode animated!
that would be a headache for the animators hahahs
Do you want to go skateboards?
The cow episode was part of the Briarwood arc, which they have made as one of the new stretch goals. So it could happen.
It'd be a high-quality version of this: th-cam.com/video/Nkc2K5nLUDo/w-d-xo.html XD
I have a feeling that they will have to cut out some chunks to push the 22 mins per episode. Besides, it looks like they want to cut Tiberius out anyway.
All the Hollywood Execs who rejected Travis and Sam during their Pitch Meetings are probably now regretting their decisions. :-)
@@twogruden9943 11 million now, I bet they are now
@@ROYBGP Not really.
I like to figure it went down like this:
*CR starts Kickstarter campaign*
15 mins later
KS: hey, sorry to bother you but we have………an issue
CR: oh dear. What’s wrong?
KS: the sites down.
CR: oh no! Hopefully we can still make our goal!
KS: Uhhhhh……what did you set that at again?
CR: oh 750,000. We wanted to not aim too high. What’s it at now? A few bucks?
KS: A few million
CR: a few what now?
A few moments of pure silence, broken by the sound of shattering glass as Matts glass of tang hits the floor "M...Mill...Million?"
This Needs A Physical Release!!!!!!!! Blu Ray! DVD! Laser Disk! VHS! BetaMax! 8 MM!
I Want It Aaaaaalllllllllllll!!!!!!
VR 360 movie/series ;D
Stretch Goal: Ashley Johnson fireside chat?
Or an interview where SHE interviews Brian, and confronts him about all the bad jokes he's said while she's been away!!
The new final stretch goal is Ashley DMing a one shot!
I hope they wash that red robe good!
Genius!....
"I am a Person of Colour and I want Matthew Mercer to voice Shawn Gilmore."
- I ask all my fellow PoC critters to sign if they agree.
I'm not of color, but I'm African
Does that count?
But the other hand is trying to make sure people of color aren't given less opportunities than white people
@@yasminafarih3681 are you like afro-Arab? Cause if you have a dark skin than your PoC
Every time I remember the launching campaign. I start to laugh hysterically because it was filled in succeeded in 45mins
So Matt... _How do you want to do this?_
0:00... That's it. I think we broke Matt...
Brechje Bakker I think we broke ALL of them. I would’ve paid money to see ALL their reactions. Ashley, Laura, Taliesan etc.
@@ZenZudokai true, me too! It's funny 😂
I mean, if you donated, you literally did!😁
I have one request...
Critters will be outraged if Matt DOESN'T voice Gilmore.
If Matt is not Gilmore we riot
I would accept Neil Patrick Harris as Gilmore, if Matt absolutely refuses. No one else though.
"Matt is Gilmore! For Our name is Legion!" Lol
"While he's in town ill run a game for him" Oh Matt you precious angel, how little you knew.
@Bman Matt ran a one shot for Colbert.
What would be truly glorious would be to see VM fight their first battle against their worst, most nefarious and diabolical nemesis - the Door.
VM has the door. M9 has . . . THE CHAIR!!!
And that could be a detective like episode, where the mastermind behind it all was Moria... I mean, THE DOOR
...and if there is a narrator, it should be Sprigg, reading books about VM in library of The Knowing Mistress.
That sounds very Neverending Story. I love it.
That would be so perfect.
Why isn't this comment higher
I fully support this.
Kickstarter Goal of: All the Villians Battle Royle.
Just Matt sitting at the table... :|
Yes!

Yes... this was from a year ago, (sorry, I just recently started scrolling comments on videos I watch....) BUT!!!! imagine giving all the players a different stat sheet for the bosses they faced in the last campaign to see how they would play the villains!?! All of these talented people would have to come up with ideas and strategies almost totally on the fly, because you know there are very few bosses that Matt showed 100% of the cards for in game!
