    Few thoughts on the 3008G,
the optimum gear is generally much better finished that most of their smaller AL line of lathes but its well worth stripping and cleaning everything as there will be cast iron dust stuck in every slideway. Even some of the higher end Taiwanese gear will have similar similar contamination, its nothing serious to worry about but worth cleaning out. The standard Ball detent style oilers in all these machines are rubbish, easily get filled with grit and dont deliver oil well. the saddle oilers should ideally be replaced with Gits style oil cups linked below.
The Double T slot on the cross slide opens up some awesome possibilities for easily adding and swapping between a solid toolpost, Rear parting off post and a Power drilling attachment. The standard compound slide isn't very rigid as there is a large overhang from the tool to where the compound actually clamps down to the cross slide. the clamping plate will distort the cross slide slightly and have been known to crack right down the middle. Realistically your first project for the lathe should be a solid toolpost (dead simple to make)and the OEM compound should only be used for cutting short tapers. a power drilling attachment is also dead simple to make and allows for deep hole drilling, drilling with power feed and is superior in many respects to a rack and pinion tailstock.
should also be noted that the tailstock lock is steel not bronze and will peen the shit out of the tailstock barrel, its a dead simple part to make but well worth replacing as down the track your tailstock will start to get very stiff and feel a bit lumpy

for Oil cups Gits are the best but a huge pain to buy from, The UK distributer for Bijur lubrication (Lubetech) are a pleasure to deal with and will happily ship to Australia

I know this video is a year old, however, I just ordered this machine with DRO, QCTP, 4 jaw chuck and a crate full of goodies. I also ordered a HM46B mill with DRO, power feed and stack of bits and bobs from H&F.
I’m looking forward to getting my new toys in a few days to deal with all the spare time retirement gives me.

Retirement is 5y away for me, but I got delivered the same machines as you last week. It's a slow unpack and setup on your own, and the jobs keep lining up.... Happy days.

Awesome bit of kit this will save time and money in the long run. Also open up a whole new avenue of trick bits and parts you can make and modify. A huge bonus to your channel and to us watching what you make.

Great addition to the workshop, wish I had the space. I'm a time served toolmaker working cnc machines now, the few times I get to work on manual milling machines and lathes these day, I'm in my element. Just make sure you wear some safety glasses or have a magnetic pick up to get swarf out of your eyes... 😎

Sweet great addition to the garage you will now start playing and wonder why you never had it earlier. Got me one a couple of years back and play every so often . Lot easier being able to do things yourself rather than wait for someone else to make it for ya ..

Awesome Dan! If you keep buying cool equipment your going to run out of room in the garage, but I do agree you need the proper tools to do the job. Looking forward to the future builds to included the use of the new lathe.

Check the tool post slide I found that the top slide has a casting defect and will cause damage to your dovetail guide

Cafe Racer Garage actually no it wasn’t the lathe in particular. I’ve been meaning to log into my account for months but just have been following along as a “guest” since you did the fork swap on the Honda cafe build. Better late than never right?

The strange thing about this machine is: You appear to have a version with 12 selectable speeds. But i can only find ones with 6 speeds, which would be a very limiting factor in any kind of work. What is your machines year of manufacturing? Maybe they changed something.
