RV Texas Y'all just a thing to maybe try. Slice into your porkbutt about 1/2” deep in a crosshatch pattern all over top and sides. Then rub it down. As it cooks it shrinks and those slices become valleys that create more bark and flavor. That pork butt looked amazing and i look forward to retiring and traveling the u.s. cheers
I'm a fellow Texan and enjoy your videos. Had the Davy Crockett a while now and absolutely love it. My neighbor in this RV park (FL) saw it and was head over heels for it, ordered one and got it 2 days ago. We love Palo Duro and when I saw the beginning of the video told my wife that was where it was and of course you confirmed it - I had not seen the little descriptor saying that's where it was...:) As an aside your looks and mannerisms are SO similar to my best friend that moved to CO 20+ years ago. He liked making videos in the old days. Keep up the good work -got a butt going on tomorrow.
Mine cam this week with mostly banged up legs but one banged up so bad the rivets were pulled out. They gave me 80 bucks off my purchase. I didn't realize til later I never got my starboard side external rack...:-(
Smarter then your average bear nothing better then cooking outdoors and sitting down and enjoying a meal in the great outdoors, great job cooking chef scrumptious delicious
I’ve smoked a lot of briskets and I find the best temp is 220 degrees. For a 14 pound brisket I usually smoke it for around 10/12 hours. Last month I did a turkey and it turned out delicious. Keep up the smokin on the D/C and you will use it all the time.
Awesome Jason! We love our Davy Crockett. It’s super easy! We have a few other Davy Crockett videos in our Camp Cooking playlist in case you haven’t seen them: th-cam.com/play/PL3vGBOkcBm2UY6lqfDwBryIn3UJT3r8kl.html
I like it, ”Tom’s Chuck Wagon.” I was waiting for this episode and you hit it out of the park! You make it look so simple, and with this Grill it is So Simple. Paired mine up last night, and packed it up today for a trip across the river. (Linda heard the song of the Painted Bunting in the background. Going to have to make it to Palo Duro soon in our RV.). Excited about my the grill and looking forward to more Tom’s Chuck Wagon episodes. Thank you, Tom and Stacie.
Thanks. I was surprised to see how it fit after I loaded it up. I did not expect it to take up so little space. When I compared it to our small portable Weber propane grill it took up the same space (in length and width, minus the smoke stack) only a little taller. So, Cool 😎.
Congrats Charles! Hope you love your GMG as much as we do. We’ve got several other GMG videos in our Camp Cooking Playlist if you’re interested: th-cam.com/play/PL3vGBOkcBm2UY6lqfDwBryIn3UJT3r8kl.html
I've had my GMG DC for 6 years! LOVE it! Just did a 12lb brisket at LVMS NASCAR races. Had to cut it into sections to fit it, Tetras skills tested. Results were amazing, burnt ends mmmm. One thing to note, the grill can be setup with profiles for different cooks. I used the KC Brisket profile and an apple juice / Worcestershire sauce mix. It's a small portable grill that can handle some big jobs!
I love my GMG Davy Crockett. I cook on it several times a week. Can't say enough good things about it. Smoked two steaks on it last night. And yes the WiFi is cool lol. Great video, Lou
@@bobcausey I smoke my steaks to about 100 degrees internal temp then I use a flat top grill or cast iron pan to put a sear on them. That finishes them at a perfect medium rare. Putting the steaks on the smoker directly from the fridge will increase the smoke time and allow more smoke to flavor the meat. Good luck, Lou
Love yall. I'm 37 been full timing for almost 10 years just bought my gmg trek prime. Should up with the legs all beaten up and the side rack missing but they gave 80 bucks off and being we don't have a long term residence it made sense.
Awesome video Tom and Stacy, Yummy! Hubby was wondering about how many times you added pellets to the hopper or about how much was used for 6 hours? Thanks
oh man, I have been waiting for this video. It looked so good. Love my Davy as well. We smoke a big bunch of BBQ - freeze a bunch of it, and pull it out as needed. Great for a quick dinner after a travel day. And smoked sweet corn - my favorite - better than candy!
This is one of those times I need Smell o vision! we need more Tom's Chuck Wagon episodes! I need to zip on there... during that hour cool down period and feast! Yes, corn on the cob is Perfect.. love it off the grill
Hi Tom and Stacie, Enjoy your details with this videos, glad you guys are eating so well. I may be able to make more than peanut butter and jelly if I watch more cooking videos. Thanks for sharing. Don
I've been waiting for this episode. One of the best ever! Look forward to the rest! I didn't know I couldn't do without a Davy Crockett grill until I saw yours - and I'm from Tennessee. Are there any accessories that you recommend or wish you had?
Hey Greg! Glad you enjoyed it! We are loving our Davy Crockett! Really the only accessory that we would add right now is the cover. We are using a tarp to protect it from the weather right now. The actual fitted cover would be nice to have. Here’s our Amazon link in case you’d like more info about the grill: amzn.to/2SEQXW4
Very easy to make pickles. Pick up a package of Mrs. Wages 1 step pickle mix and pour it over some sliced or (spears) cucumbers and refrigerate. It makes 1 pint and so easy. Several different flavors to choose from. You can find the mix in the canning area of the store or online. I made some of the kosher dill and added some garlic cloves and red pepper flakes.
Just my Davy Crockett in yesterday and seasoned it up, today I'm doing two racks of beef ribs on it (just put them on the grill in fact) and I can't wait to see how they turn out as this is my first cook with a pellet grill.
Awesome!!! We still need to cook ribs in ours. Let us know how they turn out! Here's our Davy Crockett playlist if you'd like to see more about what we've cooked on it so far: th-cam.com/play/PL3vGBOkcBm2UT3R3iN0g19o1l27uyarmd.html
I smoked 2 butts last weekend (one was 9 lb and the other 11 lb). I always smoke overnight at 200F for between 9 and 12 hours. And I put a large Dutch oven of water in the lower rack so the cooking is moist. The longer and slower cook time allows the connective tissue to ‘melt’. All my basting is in the last 2-3 hours or the mop tends to burn rather than permeate the meet. Nice portable smoker! I have 3 smokers but they are progressively larger and not really portable.
Thanks for the tips Jim! We love our little portable smoker. It has been a great addition to our outdoor kitchen. Here's a link to what we have in case you ever want to pick up something for your travels: amzn.to/2AGU2A0 . We had a big cast iron smoker when we had the house and Tom loved it. He looked for a long time before he found this one and we're really happy with it.
Try this with your corn peal the shucks back and clean the silks rub down with butter and sprinkle with garlic herb seasoning ( or seasoning of your choice ) pull the shucks back up and wrap with foil place on grill for 45 min to and hour turning every 10 to 15 min You will be amazed at the flavor Jeff aka CrazyT

Howdy folks, just found your channel and very much enjoyed your 2 videos about the Davy Crockett grill. I've owned mine about 6 months now and have grilled pork butt, chicken, 2 at a time in an aluminum pan for easy cleanup, baby back ribs, cedar plank salmon and a host of other things, even cold smoked cheese. I love my Davy Crockett Green Mountain Grill. Ain't never grilled corn on the cob though, I'll just have to try that. I reckon I'll have to subscribe to your channel as well. You put a smile on my face. Thanks
Hey Robert! Welcome to our channel! We are happy to have you join us for the fun. Great tip on the pan for the chicken... thanks! And cold smoked cheese... wow! We might have to give that a try! Glad to hear that you are enjoying your Davy Crockett grill as much as we are. Hope you're having a great week! Happy Cooking!
Hey Mike! That’s a tough question to answer. But of the portable grills we looked at, we chose the Davy Crockett because we think it has more space both in grill space and height. We can cook a small brisket or a small turkey on this one.
You’ve got my mouth watering so much!!! That pork looked fantastic...wish I had smell-o-vision. Star certainly looked interested. Glad the grill worked out so well. 👍😃
Great video. Have you considered doing a hot and fast butt on you gmg dc? Until recently I was a low and slow guy. I did a 7lb butt at 325 on my recteq 340 and it finished in about 4 hours. I wrapped it in butcher paper after about 2-3 hours when the bark reached the color I wanted. Then let it go until it hit 200. Then I wrapped it in foil over the butcher paper and put it in a toweled cooler to rest for a few hours. I was very pleased with the results.
A key thing I have not noticed in any Davy Crockett/Trek presentation is that though it’s called a grill all mentioned smoker…even through it’s a grill too…..but how to grill with much less smoke?? …charcoal type pellets.
You will be eating good for two or three more days off that seven pound roast and you didnt heat up the interior of your RV while cooking. Yes, we liked this video. Could smell it cooking all the way down here in southern Mexico.
Thanks Jayman! And thanks for the heads up on the link. That's really strange. We've changed it to our main storefront link. The grill is listed in our Camp Cooking section. www.amazon.com/shop/rvtexasyall
The link worked on the video when you were unpacking it, etc. I checked it after this one didn't work. Just thought I'd let you know it didn't work in this pork butt cooking video. Jayman...
You can do point to point connection without having internet. The grill connects directly to your phone and doesn't use any wifi or internet signal. So essentially blue tooth but you have to be some what close
Did You have to refill the hopper? Also on my Treager after about 2 hrs or so the hopper will have a hole in the middle & the pellets will no longer fall in the auger do you have that problem with the Davy crocket?
Hi Stuart! I did not have to refill the pellets during the pork butt cook. As far as the "hole" forming, it has happened a time or two... usually when I'm cooking at high temps and didn't start with a full hopper.
It uses very little power. In fact we’ve considered connecting it to a small solar device as a fun experiment. It used about half of a hopper of pellets for this cook.
have you tried using the unit without 120v and just running off a car battery? What is the watts pulled per hour? I am trying to see what the 'off-grid' option would be? thanks
I could SMELL it cooking in Missouri! Lol. How many times did you refill the pellets or how many pellets did y’all use. Safe travels and great job Tom!
Could watch this over and over and still find new nuggets of awesome info and cool subbtlies! Love 💘 it! BTW you two are skinny but cook alot of food. 🤠😉
I have a Trager pellet grill at home and now I need to step it up on the road! I tried to smoke a pork butt once but I couldn’t keep it lit!!! Old joke, just kidding....Lol....Good Job!!!
Tip: your meat temp was 43 degrees when you 1st stuck in the probe. Try pulling your meat out of refrig ahead of time. Let meat sit out at room temp for awhile. Will drastically cut down on your cooking time.
I bet you sell at least one of these every time you go camping. I know when we go RV camping and folks ask me about my GMG DC they soon after say I'm going to buy one now. I think Green Mountain Grill should reach out to RV influencers because talking about these little pits around the campground sells themselves. Great job on the pork butt. Deuces.

Thanks Lisa! We started with a full hopper and still had some when we finished. Didn’t have to add any!
Love the content. As a Davey Crockett owner I’ve used a lot of your tips. Did you put this on fat side down like you do on the brisket?
Thanks Jason! Yes, we cooked the pork butt fat side down since there is plenty of fat within it to tenderize the meat.
IMO The fat cap on top renders down into the meat making for a much juicier and more flavorful product

Hey if you run out of pellets do you have to stop the cook? Or can you continue on the heating element only?
Hi Greg. Pellets are the fuel for the heat. You have to have pellets in the hopper to cook.
RV Texas Y'all thanks I just ordered one.

Jayman...
@@wantsomething3319 We really appreciate it. Thanks Jayman! Hope you're having a good week.
I camp in the mountains about 90% of the time where there is no phone service, for camping I think Bluetooth would be a better option than WiFi
Great point George. The Green Mountain Grill creates its own wi-fi. We’ve used it in areas without a signal and have not had a problem.
You can do point to point connection without having internet. The grill connects directly to your phone and doesn't use any wifi or internet signal. So essentially blue tooth but you have to be some what close
Thanks!! I think i'm going to try 200 degrees
Low and slow! Sounds like a great plan Robert!
Great video!
Thanks Dennis!
Yummy! I want some. I sure wished I had smell-O-vision on my lap top.
We wish you did too, Ty! It smelt great!
@@rvamericayall TEASER! LOL
@@CCaudits LOL!
I've been looking for something portable like this for the RV.
We love our Davy Crockett.
Hows Davy holding up? I just ordered one, excited to use it.
Still loving it Mike! Enjoy!
As far as the "hole" forming, it has happened a time or two... usually when I'm cooking at high temps and didn't start with a full hopper.
would be good to know aprox how much pellets was used for this cooking and how much power was used.
It uses very little power. In fact we’ve considered connecting it to a small solar device as a fun experiment. It used about half of a hopper of pellets for this cook.
You did a excellent job... I wish we had TH-cam smellavision because I know it smelled as good as it looked.. Thanks for sharing...
Thanks so much! We wish we had smellovision too... it smelled amazing!
Will a whole ham fit on the grill?
The wi-fi is so clutch. Any problems arise to date? Just bought one yesterday.
No problems at all so far. We love it. Happy cooking!
@@rvamericayall Thanks for your quick response. You bought a cover for it?
No, we didn’t buy a cover we use a tarp & it works fine!
Oh my goodness!! I'm hungry!!
It turned out pretty darn tasty!
Its a really nice smoker
Thank you Annamay! We’re enjoying it.
have you tried using the unit without 120v and just running off a car battery? What is the watts pulled per hour? I am trying to see what the 'off-grid' option would be?
thanks
Hi Joseph. We haven’t tried running it off a battery. The back info plate says average power is 10 watts.
@@rvamericayall yep... I bought one and ran in on a kill-a-watt and it used 50 watts over 4 hours.
Enjoy your dinner
Thanks Annamay! 😁
Ok, that looks awesome.brother!!
Thanks! Turned out really good!
Did you turn the pork roast??
I didn't turn it over. I did rotate it.
It's a temperature probe
Thanks Greg
At the end of the video, I think Star gave it her sniff of approval. LOL
She’s always willing to be the taste tester! LOL
Nice i think is going to be my new bbq
Hello from Québec Canada !!!
Howdy from Texas Carlos! We love our Davy Crockett! They have a new version now available: amzn.to/35uhfSF .
I still like Tom’s Cooking Corner. I didn’t see a Chuckwagon! Lol
:)
Very cool. I need to start cooking like this. Currently, if it takes me longer than 10 minutes to complete prep and cooking, I don't eat it :)
It's really not difficult. You should give it a try! :)
I could SMELL it cooking in Missouri! Lol. How many times did you refill the pellets or how many pellets did y’all use. Safe travels and great job Tom!
Thanks Jerry! We filled the hopper before we started cooking and still had some left in it at the end. Seems pretty efficient!
Could watch this over and over and still find new nuggets of awesome info and cool subbtlies! Love 💘 it! BTW you two are skinny but cook alot of food. 🤠😉
LOL Fonzo! Guess all of that hiking pays off! 😂 So glad you love the video. We'll be posting more cooking videos soon.
My mouth is watering 🤣🤣🤣👍🏼
Thanks Howard! It was really good!
I have a Trager pellet grill at home and now I need to step it up on the road! I tried to smoke a pork butt once but I couldn’t keep it lit!!! Old joke, just kidding....Lol....Good Job!!!
😂😂
Tip: your meat temp was 43 degrees when you 1st stuck in the probe. Try pulling your meat out of refrig ahead of time. Let meat sit out at room temp for awhile. Will drastically cut down on your cooking time.
Great tip. Thanks!
It looks like your pellet grill is working out for you. I sure do love mine.
We are really enjoying it Patrick!
Great video new sub. Full time Gulf Shores Al
Welcome! We're glad you found us. 😁
I've been looking at your dog. Is that a Black mouth curr dog?😊
She’s a mutt but we think she is predominantly black mouth!
Deuces.
Thanks Paul! We can't imagine our lives without our GMG DC! What a great little cooker.
YUMMY!!!!!!
Yes it was!
Thanks Guys great job safe travels I bet that pork melt in your mouth 👍🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks Ronnie! It was tasty!
i'm thinking i need one of these grills
We love ours. You can find them on Amazon: amzn.to/35WkAe2
