My first car was a 92 brumby, i rebuilt it with my father and loved it to bits. Unfortunately it was written off while parked overnight and i've never really gotten over that loss. I'll be buying multiple tickets for the chance of winning this beauty!
These guys are just so pure, genuinely love cars, genuinely best mates, all they're videos just make me feel so relaxed, never stop what your doing guys
My dad’s first Subaru was a BRAT (I’m in the USA), and he basically only ever bought Subarus after that (and minivans, to fit the whole family of six for longer trips - for shorter trips I’d just lay down in the back of the station wagon). I loved seeing that intro. So many incredible pieces of history. I grew up with computers, not posters, and many of those cars were the wallpaper of my computer growing up. My brother still drives our grandpa’s Brat, and we have another we’d like to restore for me to drive as well. So many memories in those cars.
I saw the Brumby today on a trailer being towed down fairford road in Bankstown at about 1:30. The paint looks great in the sun. I really was 50/50 on it until I saw it in person.
The EJ20 Forester is surely one of the unsung heroes of Australian motoring. It makes sense that it’s engine and driveline underpin this rebuild of the legendary Brumby. My first Subaru was a manual 1998 Forester bought in 2012. I was the third owner and it had travelled 210,000km at that point. Apart from needing a new clutch the interior was spotless and the body straight and everything was original. I bought it as a second car mainly to drive to and from the train station. However it quickly became the family work horse and spare car towing a trailer to and from Canberra, moving furniture, towing a boat, working on construction sites and as a daily driver commuting across Sydney. For 2 years it was the third car in my driveway because I just didn’t want to sell it. After 9 years and 120,000k the Forester moved on to another owner. It was a ridiculously good and reliable car and a simple car to work on. After that Subaru experience I bought an XV, then another Forester and then another Forester for my daughter. I’ll have to buy a ticket in that Brumby!
What a great series. I feel like this was also a wonderful way MCM is able to bring everything they learned and the people they met into one series. This project really makes me further appreciate MCM and car culture in general.
I was 16 years old, and I drove a Brumby around my Dads Uncles wheat farm/sheep farm in 86', was the best driving experience I ever had !! Loved this series, well done MCM,...again !!
Not sure what the collective noun for a couple of legends is, but it’s fair to say, Marty and Moog are certainly that! Bravo chaps, thanks for sharing the journey with us! Good luck to all the people who enter the comp to win the Mcm Brumby.
I have to say, after following the whole build & Marty's end speech about growing up with, learning to drive in & owning many other Subarus... Plus after 6 months of hard work of restoration, fabrication & customization & then handing away the keys... You brought me to tears, seriously. You guys are the best, well done mates! The new owner will surely enjoy it.
You have come so far as a team and I think this justifies your existence as car guys big respect for what you have achieved over the years and probably the ultimate justification from a company like Subaru.
Subaru, take note - might be time to revive the Brumby line. Australia has no more utes like this anymore. There is a market for them. Well done boys, great job restoring this.
Marty is a bloody legend, and what makes MCM the "Best Four wheel drive/AWD/Honda/Subaru/Rotary channel" on TH-cam. You nailed it mate, you are the man.
This project really turned out amazing, great work MCM! Makes me wish I lived in Australia, so I could enter the raffle. You can hear just how attached to the Brumby Martin is, I'm sure he is going to miss it dearly.
I'm from Maine, USA, I fell in love with the older Subarus back in 1993 when I had a 1984 GL wagon. What an amazing car. I'd always salivated for the Brats though and I'd rather have the car you guys made than anything else out there. Great job, that looks so amazing!
You can really tell how personal this journey has been. Road safety is an invaluable cause to me as a motorcyclist, bicyclist, and driver … while that cause is universally important for any person with loved ones on the road, Subarus are uniquely cherished as safe everyday practical vehicles that are fun to take into the wilderness for decades. I think the idea of not throwing something away once it’s had a certain number of miles is also valued; as at least in the United States a higher portion of Subaru vehicles remain in the road than others after ten, twenty, thirty years’ time. This build was really special not just because of what it represents and means to Marty, but because it shows really earnestly what makes a Subaru a Subaru.
@mightycarmods thanks for taking us on this journey, it's been captivating. everything you've done to the Brumby has enhanced it to a modern day Brumby. If only @SubaruAustralia managed to get this format of their awesome vehicles back into production this would have to be the design inspiration! What a beautiful series, not only seeing this Brumby resurrected for another lifetime of enjoyment, but the sentimental backstory that makes it all worthwhile. It’s never “just a car”, and massive respect to Subaru Australia for being involved and engaging with their history in such a way.
2 years ago, i went around NSW looking at Brumbies to rebuild. Never found one that reached out to me, instead bought a Honda CRX. but this Brumby looks amazing, something i would of liked to do myself. Well done!
It looks amazing, give yourselves some credit. You guys meticulously orchestrated each part and the decisions you made all makes perfect sense together.
The raffle was obviously a slow process because I've only just gotten an email from Subaru about it this afternoon. I was probably only about two minutes into the video when I decided that I'd grab a ticket. Like any raffle, the odds are against me, but I can really see the Brumby competing with the Forester for my attention. Top work, guys!!
That story from Marty is it for me. brought in to the Subaru fold at age 5 with the family car, Uncle getting a WRX and followed by Dad getting one too. Growing up with Subaru really is the way you get hooked on their special formula, and back in 90s Australia, there wasnt much else like a WRX. Would always blow the doors off your basic Commo or Falcon and in my opinion, looked more aggressive in styling. Nobody even knew about bonnet scoops back then, they were completely unique for the time.
Marty says "It's not a show car", I think it is actually something better than that. A beautifully restored and useable vehicle. Something you can take down the trails or wherever without worrying about it too much. Things you wouldn't do with a show car that is going to sit somewhere parked up for long periods of time.
Being an old fart and seeing these cars in the wild when they were new you guys have done yourselves ,Subaru and the Brumby name justice in this restomod . This looks better than any Brumby I have ever seen. Great job guys and cant wait to see your next project
I love that this is more of the restoration than modification of a restomod. You guys have a built a humble yet nimble Brumby/BRAT, a car I never was a fan of until now. Cheers guys!
All of those Subarus at the beginning! Love it. My grandad used to have a silver 1991 Legacy/liberty estate and the memory of that car is such a good one.
Way to go dudes I was born in Oregon my mom's friend came back from Hawaii and Bandon Oregon had the first Subaru lot what a classic you two have brought back to life
That's crazy to think that these 2 started in a driveway pissing on a Golf and now doing projects for Subaru Australia. Godspeed guys! Best of luck from Poland!
I grew up in one! My dad had one when I was like 7-8 and I’m 43 now we still have pictures of us sitting in the back seats facing backwards. Was so epic!
This has been a great series and a wonderful result. The way you've given us a view into so many background people like the driveshaft and axle builders, as well as pulling in people from all over Australia to help, has made the videos. Many years ago I bought a used Outback. My mechanic said 'Is this your first Subaru?' I told him it was. 'It won't be your last' he said. A few years later I was rear-ended in traffic and the Outback was written off. Within a week I had another. The Brumby gets a lot of love, like Australia's favorite Teddy Bear.
As an American, I'd never heard of a Brumby until now and, just like with so many cars that MCM have built, I've fallen in love with it. I can see why people are passionate about them and I wish that car manufacturers could bring their full line ups of cars to all parts of the world, not just specific areas. I know it's not really possible or profitable but my car-loving heart wants it! lol
I had to sell my Hyundai i30n because I bought a house and realised I needed to be frugal. I bought a Subaru Outback '10 Diesel and while it has its weird Subaru quirks its become my favourite car I've owned and the fuel economy is out of this world! My next car will definitely be a Subaru! I have loved this series not only cause you boys killed it again but because it hit a personal moment in my life!
You guys have previously done builds on my top 2 favourite cars of all time, and now you've done another one, I'm so inlove with this little Brumby, I look forward to buying many a raffle ticket in support of ARSF and of course the dream of owning one of my dream cars, you guys did an outstanding job, thank you.

What series this was.... Damn.... Dad had the estate one ages ago, I was too little to drive it my self, but have memories of it being different from any other car he and I had ever since. Thank You! And hello from Latvia!
I live in the US and I haven't seen a Subaru Brat in many years but after watching one of the restoration videos the other day I saw one out in the wild again. I wouldn't have even known about the Brat/Brumby connection otherwise.
really loved this series, i bought an absolute mess of a brumby 18 months ago and have been meaning to get it on the road all this time. i have a healthy ej253 i got for almost nothing i might put in front of it in the future even though it will never be as good as this one, seeing this come together has made me start working on it again. ive rebuilt the ea81 and fixed a few rust holes since the first brumby video :)
This is why I like MCM. YT is full of car channels that are only about unreliable 1000hp hype builds nowadays. But MCM stands out because they build reasonable cars that you can actually drive on a daily basis and watchers can take inspiration from this and actually build these cars too. Love this series and this car very much!!
I am a bit older and a military man, so the color is amazing and I have always wanted one, I wish I could enter but here in the states, it's no go, GREAT WORK!

Really loved this build series and all for a good cause. A friends dad had one of these in the UK back when I was a kid and I always admired it because at the time it was so different from the Ford Granadas, Escorts and Rovers that everyone else was driving around in at the time. Good job on this one chaps really lovely job!

I just bought a brand new 2023 GTI because of MCM. Thanks guys for all the years of good times and love of cars.
The best channel on TH-cam! If they didn't have channels like this, TH-cam wouldn't exist.
All of those Subarus at the beginning! Love it.
My grandad used to have a silver 1991 Legacy/liberty estate and the memory of that car is such a good one.
Imagine, it all started on Mom's Driveway. Amazing Job Gents👍
I love how the old generations of subies are so modular! that's sick!
I loved watching that Brumby come back to life. Well done.
The friendship and respect you bloke's display for each other is just as inspiring as your car building skills.
Great video, thank you.
Having friends is one of the greatest values in life. This project is living proof. Hope whoever wins it appreciates the concept.
6 months! I’d like to take this moment to appreciate how much goes behind the scenes for you to be able to bring us content regularily. So much has to be planned, executed, shot and edited! So mamy different projects at the same time. Its amazing. Thank you.
Also, this resto looks sick. Great job!
a bit late to the show, but having followed you guys for a couple of years, I am awestruck by your dedication and love of cars. Never losing your souls to today's gimmicks and quick commerce. I salute you gentlemen! The interballs are honored by your presence. And sick subie sounds :D
I learned how to drive stick in my moms 85 BRAT, she also had an 81
What series this was....
I wouldn't have even known about the Brat/Brumby connection otherwise.
really loved this series, i bought an absolute mess of a brumby 18 months ago and have been meaning to get it on the road all this time.
i have a healthy ej253 i got for almost nothing i might put in front of it in the future
even though it will never be as good as this one, seeing this come together has made me start working on it again. ive rebuilt the ea81 and fixed a few rust holes since the first brumby video :)
oh man i melted this whole episode you guys and the team/friends and new friends are absolutely amazing
The story telling and emotion you bring out of cars is just awesome.
I’d be proud to park this fantastic Brumby alongside my 93 RS Turbo wagon !
I am a bit older and a military man, so the color is amazing and I have always wanted one, I wish I could enter but here in the states, it's no go, GREAT WORK!
Well done gents! The project looks like more Subaru resurrections for a great cause are headed our way. Cool!
Great build series Guys and for a good cause! Thanks for letting me go al ong.
Guys, the opening to this video was phenomenal
What a beautiful car. You gotta be so bloody proud, everyone involved, at how incredible this has turned out.
You guys and all your friends must be so proud of yourselves! Always learning, always growing and producing incredibly quality content which is cherished by us but also will be cherished by generations to come who will have the same love of cars as no doubt we do!
The color was a huge win. Really looks perfect.
Best video intro duction ever, walking through all that history! Well done for a couple guys that live on the "upside down" hemisphere of the planet!
Really loved this build series and all for a good cause. A friends dad had one of these in the UK back when I was a kid and I always admired it because at the time it was so different from the Ford Granadas, Escorts and Rovers that everyone else was driving around in at the time. Good job on this one chaps really lovely job!
The subaru 360 at the start gave me a heart attack!! ❤️ love love love classic keis. I am currently trying to restore and modify my daihatsu fellow max from 1978! I want to convert to an EFI system and keep it going for another decade atleast. Beautiful job guys, much luv from NZ
When you sit on the tailgate, the ride height is perfect 👌🏼
