Great video, good quality on all fronts! The reason I found your run was because I was nerd raging on the combat system myself, being annoyed with the same things you were along with a general discontent with how materia was implemented compared to in remake. No matter what setup of materia I had, it always felt as if I was missing something that would allow me to properly engage with the mechanics of the bosses. Whenever I was unable to utilize the right magic to pressure a boss or stun them or w/e, my fights resembled yours in a lot of ways (albeit more sustainable healing and higher damage/defense). Two points I haven't seen mentioned: 1: I wondered if it was a viable option to use accessories to get access to certain magic spells or if this was against the spirit of the challenge. 2: In the fight with Sephiroth, I always took out the wing using magic as it seemed immune to physical damage. Anyways! Liked & subscribed, I look forward to seeing more interesting content from you! P.S.: For what it's worth, I find you have a pleasurable voice to listen too.
This is an awesome video! You did really good, especially for having no spells while basically on hard mode. I love that you gave your honest criticism about the game too. I think the game is worth a replay so you can try out the new materia they've added since FF7 Remake. I've only played the demo so I'm not sure how many new materia they added but I noticed they added a new kind that can have 2 spells attached to it, so you can have 2 spells that only take up 1 materia slot! I can't wait to play the full game for myself and see all the new stuff they added! Cheers mate, you definitely deserve more recognition! Keep up that passion I seen in this video and I can tell you'll get there!
Much appreciated! I did come across some really awesome materia that made me think of some additional challenge runs, but i ultimately decided on no materia. I came across a fire and ice materia which was pretty cool!
@@azuremistkingdomBy the way I noticed in your video that you were having trouble reaching flying enemies. As Cloud you have evade attacks that throw out green, ranged energy waves. While you're using your evade attack, you can hold the attack button to dash up to flying enemies with a thrusting strike. From there you can continue with an air combo. Also, you can use the triple slash ability while you're in the air as long as you're in the air when you activate it. Hope this helps!!
So combat, hitting high/flying targets... the game doesn't exactly tell you, but there are ways... for example, with cloud... both of his evade attacks: light evade launches magic damage waves before closing in. Strong evade instantly closes the gap and puts cloud right next to the target, even in the air. He also gets firebolt blade, which launches him into the air. Different characters react differently... red struggles with flying enemies. The evade is the most annoying fight mechanic in my opinion. It seems you get no s, and the danger attacks that need to be evaded seem unavoidable.

To add: red dragon. You won't know this because you didn't assess it (requires materia), but you can reduce the lava range. You need to break the chest body part. It hits like 75% of the room after the chest is broken.

@azuremistkingdom I just finished watching, another great run! I only beat the game today at 97hr (most sidequests done). And yeah, extra hard without all the assess tips on how to pressure certain enemies. While I liked the story, for me it's not 10/10... more like 7/10. Too many minigames, most were annoying, not fun. Combat was icky, synergy didn't quite fit, evade jank, as I said before, and it felt like the AI was incompetent at generating ATB too.

If you ever watch my Challenge run lets play of this game (as of posting this currently 51 of 106 is uploaded but hidden) then you would hear me complain on these exact things. a 7/10 is probably a good review. I might of given that score too if my first run wasn't a challenge run.
I’ve finished the video! I liked the combat of this game. I know when I started the game I preferred the remakes but it was just little things that were different I thought. But then again this is all I’ve been playing for the past month so idk. I kinda forgot what it was that I liked more/ found different about the combat lol
@@azuremistkingdom Ha! It’s funny you say that cuz I’ve Sl1’d all the souls games and have planned on using my Sl1 for the new Elden ring dlc, my son tells me it’s a bad idea given the difficulty of other souls games DLCs.. but we’ll see! Also, makes it even more impressive being your first run!

You don't use synergy attacks because sometimes they miss!? O...kay but pretty sure that's true of every attack in the game.
