Great video. I recall even in the 90's stories of gang rape in India. I do believe sth as pervasive as this is cultural. China through the communist revolution managed to dismantle the entire old feudal system, and gave women equal rights. Mao famously said that women held up half the sky. Prior to the revolution, men of wealth can divorce a women by simply writing a letter titled separation letter (loosely translated). If you watch historic chinese dramas you would have seen it portrayed. There were very little other rights afforded to the average women. Obviously if you are a women from wealthy family then your life and experience are completely different. With India, because India was united by the British, then independence achieved peacefully. India never divorced itself culturally, historically from their feudal past. Thus women are still treated as objects, esp women from lower caste.
I am an Indian, I'll tell you what the only state in India that is actually quite of a developed state in Kerala. And guess what the ruling party is ....I mean the state government... Communist Party. That place is clean and quite hygienic, 100% literacy rate (almost),and people with broad mentality,who know how to respect women and their choices and keep religion separate from practicality...even startups are also blooming quite well in that state. You see these people are Indian as well, they are religious as well they have similar culture as well...but majority have them discarded the bad aspects of their religion. Through out history since Han dynasty, Chinese government ( ruling class) have ruled China with a mix of Confucianism, Taoism & Legalism. Most Westerners are familiar with Confucianism ( The analects of Confucius) and Taoism ( Tao Te Ching) with books but not legalism, I guess. In legalism, they view making strict rules as a way for Chinese emperor to show his kindness for people. Why? Because the founder of legalism，Han Fei Zi said that if the emperor or the ruler love his subjects or people, he shoud make strict rule as dangerous as fire to peole in appearance & power to destroy. On the contrary, if the emperor or ruler hate or wants to destroy his subjects or people, he should make his laws as lax and soft as water in appearance. He argued that because fire looks very scary and powerful, no one dares to touch it or get near to it, that's why few people are being killed by fire. On the contrary, water looks very soft and undangerous, lot of people try to swim in it and get drowned to death. So just water kills more people than fire does, soft and lax rules creates more criminals and death penalties than strict laws. Strict laws will deter people to break laws thus creates less criminals and less death penalties as a whole. So by following legalism, government ruling class or government have always made their rules strict and heavily punished anyone who dare to make them and made sure these rule breakers will get caught quickly. As an Indian, the best advice I can give to foreigners (both men and women) travelling to India just avoid travelling to Delhi, UP, Bihar Jharkhand. 80% crimes in India happen in these 4 states. Rest of India is safe. Travel to places like Kerala, Goa, Puducherry, Coorg, Ladakh, Shimla, Shillong, Dharamshala, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, etc. You will have a much better experience. It's not all about stringent laws and strict policing. To use that entirely as a core reason contributing to public safety is shallow and unwarranted. Just look at Malaysia, its punitive law against any criminals whether petty or serious is without a doubt the harshest. That doesn't deter or reduce crime rates. Likewise, security cameras are not uncommon in many cities around the world, London is known to have lots as well. If you wanted to compare, let's compare London and 2nd or 3rd tier Chinese cities in number of population. Unless you'd say they are different.
Great video. I recall even in the 90's stories of gang rape in India. I do believe sth as pervasive as this is cultural. China through the communist revolution managed to dismantle the entire old feudal system, and gave women equal rights. Mao famously said that women held up half the sky. Prior to the revolution, men of wealth can divorce a women by simply writing a letter titled separation letter (loosely translated). If you watch historic chinese dramas you would have seen it portrayed. There were very little other rights afforded to the average women. Obviously if you are a women from wealthy family then your life and experience are completely different. With India, because India was united by the British, then independence achieved peacefully. India never divorced itself culturally, historically from their feudal past. Thus women are still treated as objects, esp women from lower caste.
I am an Indian, I'll tell you what the only state in India that is actually quite of a developed state in Kerala. And guess what the ruling party is ....I mean the state government... Communist Party. That place is clean and quite hygienic, 100% literacy rate (almost),and people with broad mentality,who know how to respect women and their choices and keep religion separate from practicality...even startups are also blooming quite well in that state. You see these people are Indian as well, they are religious as well they have similar culture as well...but majority have them discarded the bad aspects of their religion. I am a Bengali,from the state of West Bengal, we too had CP for a long time and things were actually good, but corruption too crept into this party and it fell... leading to a more corrupted government. My dad is a communist too and he is the most progressive man I have ever seen. So, I hope rest of the country realises this someday... I am gonna vote for CPM this elections ..💪💪

Through out history since Han dynasty, Chinese government ( ruling class) have ruled China with a mix of Confucianism, Taoism & Legalism. Most Westerners are familiar with Confucianism ( The analects of Confucius) and Taoism ( Tao Te Ching) with books but not legalism, I guess.
In legalism, they view making strict rules as a way for Chinese emperor to show his kindness for people. Why? Because the founder of legalism，Han Fei Zi said that if the emperor or the ruler love his subjects or people, he shoud make strict rule as dangerous as fire to peole in appearance & power to destroy. On the contrary, if the emperor or ruler hate or wants to destroy his subjects or people, he should make his laws as lax and soft as water in appearance. He argued that because fire looks very scary and powerful, no one dares to touch it or get near to it, that's why few people are being killed by fire. On the contrary, water looks very soft and undangerous, lot of people try to swim in it and get drowned to death. So just water kills more people than fire does, soft and lax rules creates more criminals and death penalties than strict laws. Strict laws will deter people to break laws thus creates less criminals and less death penalties as a whole.
So by following legalism, government ruling class or government have always made their rules strict and heavily punished anyone who dare to make them and made sure these rule breakers will get caught quickly. As a result, China has been a relatively safe place throughout history since Qin or Han dynasty.

As an Indian, the best advice I can give to foreigners (both men and women) travelling to India just avoid travelling to Delhi, UP, Bihar Jharkhand. 80% crimes in India happen in these 4 states. Rest of India is safe.
Travel to places like Kerala, Goa, Puducherry, Coorg, Ladakh, Shimla, Shillong, Dharamshala, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, etc. You will have a much better experience.
