- As the title describe, this is a DIY video on how you could replace your engine head cover gasket on your own with some simple tools. Test subject is a Mazda CX-5 and should be very similar skyactive models.

This is actually the valve cover gasket not head gasket friend .
This is not a head gasket lol.. It's a valve cover gasket. I should of know something was off when you said you needed all but two tools to do it

Hi Thank you for sharing the video. i have a 2019 mazda 3 which has the same oil leak problem as yours. I saw some oil stain at the same place in your video (rear and left side of valve cover gasket) but it does not look as server as yours. When did you find this leak? Did this oil leak happen within the period of warranty? If yes, did you try to request mazda to replace the seal for you and what is their response if it is the case? The reason of my question is that my car is still in the warranty so I don't think I can do the same thing as what you did in the video. I also went to the local dealer and did the dye test. They said there was no leak and just wiped out the oil stain. But after couple weeks, the oil stain always shows up again. I don't know what can I do to fix this problem. Thank you
Hi Aaron, for a 1 year old car, you should not be experiancing an oil leak from the head cover. My Cx-5 was 5 years old when I experiance the leak, so it was over the warranty period. I believe this is due to rubber where they "harden" over a period of time. In fact, if I am not wrong they recommend replacing it every 100k km. Anyway, try getting Mazda to replace it for you since your car is only 1 year old. Maybe, for your case it was installation problem. When these gasket are install, the bolts have to be tighten in sequence. Do feel free drop me a message. In case if you intend to send it to your own mechanic, i can recommend you a place you could find a genuine gasket.
@@muchmorethanthat7655 Hi, thank you for the reply. One more question, in your case, does the leak from the head cover affect engine oil level or lead to engine oil level drop? For my car, the leak does not affect the engine oil level. The engine oil level nearly does not change. But the oil stain show around again and again after periodically cleaning. I believe that it should be factory installation defect. I am trying to reach out the Mazda manufacturer (Canada) to let them figure out this problem. As I said before, local dealer claimed that my car had no problem and I dont believe them.
Aaron, it did not affect the oil level much. For my case, every 8k km, the level will drop around 200-300 ml (judging from the dip stick). A neighbour who happens to be a mechanic ever told me its just a "small" problem and can be ignored till it becomes worst. But I guess its just not right not to fix it.

I would use a shop vac with a suitable sized hose . I did this to vacuum out sand that fell inside
this isnt the head bro, one more layer down.
