    I've been using a sub $50 bag from Amazon Essentials for 2 years... It holds all my camera gear, and a laptop. You can customize the layout, fit whatever you need in there, and it obviously isn't gonna have all the little details like a side panel for pulling your camera out, but it's $50!
    Save money for fun gear and toys. An expensive bag does not make you better at your craft.

    I once hiked up Mt. Fuji with most of my stuff, coz I had no place to leave it. Since then I carry only important stuff in a $20 backpack, which can fit 2 cameras, 2 tripods, lots of small stuff, 15" laptop and a skateboard, and my other luggage is in a case with wheels. So I bought a Lowepro for a tad more than twice the price and have been using it daily in a lot different terrain and travels for the past 2 and a half years and it's still holding up perfectly!

    The Peak Design feels much more versatile IMO. That Cube Pack though... that I dig.

    • @electrichimp
      @electrichimp 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jessie Wald Photo i own the peak as well. Which compartment do you mean? The frontal one? That one looks pretty much the same as the one on the Peak to my eyes (but the Peak expands on the bottom AND top, and even gives you the option to stow the separation panel for a full on duffel style if you need it). This bag does look cool... But as I said, it seems less versatile... The Peak compresses to a smaller 30L size (which actually works great for me for daily carry) and expands to a bigger 45L size. The stowable waist straps make them much more handy, as I feel I would end up leaving them at home if they were removable. And thr list goes on: more versatile/all-over external carry, stowable rain cover that you can deploy in a pinch... Plus the whole camera cubes modularity that makes changing travel setups a breeze. But that’s just my opinion! 🤓

    • @pmipjv
      @pmipjv 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Juan Manuel Gómez Ramos I have the peak travel backpack as well and I agree with you 100%. It looks very similar but the peak seems more versatile. I use it as a daily carry and feels very sturdy. One thing I think this has an edge is it has a good amount of padding and the outer shell as well as the straps look very nice. But I do understand that this is a camera backpack while the peak can transform into one with the camera packs. I am still very happy with my Peak but if I had money to burn I would have wanted to try this out.

    • @modernslice2238
      @modernslice2238 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      You should never really "trust" a youtuber who reviews something if they got it for free. Especially with someone with Peter's name on it because in the youtuber photo world he seems to be "the one" all these guys aspire to be. Schiffer is IMO 1000x better than McKinnon in his content, but that doesn't mean i'll take his word for it on this bag. Putting money down on a product makes it less bias.

The intention was to reach as many people as possible so this stupid bag could get funded. It worked. Lets be actually honest though, Peter had little to do with the design of the bag having ZERO design experience and using a photography bag for less years than most actual pro photographers.
      The bag designers designed it, Peter gave bitty clueless notes "would be nice if" and these guys managed those expectations. The PM name on it and his stupid lame pirate logo (like he's some sort of rebel....guy is as vanilla as coke) and badabing, DONE

Personally I don't think it's hitting the market at the right price point, though there is clearly a need for this kind off bag for a few photographers/youtube creators. I bought the PM bag. You know guys you can buy the main bag as a stand alone right? And then extras are $25 each. So I just bought the SD card wallet and rain cover. So paid like $450 for the lot. For that money and my requirements it’s perfect. It’ll check as hand luggage, keeping my cinema camera, lenses and MacBook Pro and some clothes with me on long haul flights. I can also take a wheeled pull along with extra clothes etc and check that in the hold. Daniel, The front pocket is lockable with a TSA lock, just move the main zipper round and secure it to that. This bag does everything well for me,

  • @BrandonTalbot
    @BrandonTalbot 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve had the bag for a few weeks, and I really enjoy it but I have two major gripes. 1) the quick access panel is on the wrong side of the bag. Cameras have their grips on the right side, but since the quick access port is on the right side of the bag you have to grab the non grip grip side of your camera. Hopefully that makes sense. 2) the camera section isn’t flat so your expensive gear collapses in on itself kind of like when you and your friends slept on a trampoline and woke up all piled next to each other. Other than that, it FITS EVERYTHING. Two cameras, drone, mix, two monitors, a shadow of batteries, cables, filters and my drone. Like my whole studio with the exception of lights. It also carries three days of clothes on top of that! It’s insanely comfortable. If it holds up
    For 3 years I’d say it was worth the $386 I spent on it.

    the problem is the weight requirements that airplanes have for bring on luggage, and this might bring that weight above that limit, forcing them to check it and put it into the plane, which might be tossed hard and could potentially cause damage or lost etc. Thats problematic to a degree, but it depends on your equipment weight etc. Am i wrong in thinking like this?

I'd want rollers so I could just roll it along in the airport or other places that I have to walk a long distance. 2.) I'd like to be able to put my own branding on the bag. I'm not sure if the material would allow for embroidery. Maybe it can but no one has talked about it so I'm not sure. On the plus side I do like that Peters logo has a very small footprint which allows for plenty of personal branding real-estate.

    It's a scam guys, I'm sorry for those involved but it's way overpriced, and you're paying for the TH-cam guy and his signature.
    And a s a proof you're only seeing reviews from fellow TH-cam stars, most of them whom cannot even get the bag full.
    Wndrd, peak and even mindshift all make better bags IMHO. No disrespect for this channel of course.

      Yeah... look at lowepro. Their protactic 450 aw ii is now circling $220 on b&h.
      It is essentially the same bag as the Peter McKinnon one with the exception being that it doesn't have space for clothes. I think that the lowepro is a far better bag (not even to mention the value proposition). I'm eagerly waiting for the long term reviews of this bag. I'm not sure if nomadic have build quality under control yet. The bag seems well built, but durability is a different issue.
      I'm not too familiar with nomadic, but I don't think they have a reputation for solid camera bags nearly as good as say lowepro of think-tank.

    • @GabrielBhappy
      @GabrielBhappy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@ApertureApex You're missing the point of this bag. The protactic 450 aw ii is a good bag. Both Peter and I own it an like it, but when I'm going away for the weekend that bag holds my camera gear (only) and another bag has my clothing etc. What Peter made here is an "all in one bag". Going away for a 3-5 day trip and want to carry only one bag? This is it. Everything can fit in here. When I'm flying to Costa Rica to shoot a wedding this brings it from 3 bags to one. Going North for the weekend to get Northern Lights? One bag. Shooting a wedding out of town? One bag, LIKE A BOSS. Sure the ProTactic bag is dope, but it serves a different purpose. Peter and I have owed all the bags over the years from Peak Design, to LowePro to Canon to ThinkTank (he's in their catalog) and this is the culmination of the "dream bag" after buying 1000's of dollars of bags that "just don't do it all" .

      I wouldn't go as far as saying it's a scam, as the peak design travel line is around that price as well. The only difference is, the PDTL actually fits all your clothes and camera gear for a week of travel. I did a review on it and I would have to agree that this bag will only fit as much gear and essentials for a weekend trip at most, unless you want to constantly do laundry every 3 days.

    I wonder if these bags have broken yet, looking at the design, i reckon it’l last 1 year tops before the ziper gives out.
    The back straps connect to the bag via the back panel and Zipper, meaning all the weight of that huge bag is attached to the straps via the zipper only.
    On other bags like my lowpro the straps connect to the entire shell, and the back panel zips off to reveal the items, which puts the weight of the bag from the shell to the straps and avoids putting strain on the zipper.
    I reckon the zipper on this PM bag will break very fast

    You nailed my concern from the start. This bag is easy to identify and there are a heap of your tube videos saying hey your passport goes here. So people know where to find it and it’s gone. I prefer a pockets inside to store it and when I need it I have it in my hand. Other than that it does look like a great bag. If you own $5000+ worth of gear then of course you should get this.

    Great video! I have an older nomatic backpack and a big downside is that the chest straps felt too easy to come off, and was impossible for me to reattach. However, I like that it can distribute a lot of weight better than even very padded northface bags. If you want the pressure on your back to be more comfortable I definitely recommend it. Everything else in the bag is just like a normal backpack but better.

  • @KevinLe
    @KevinLe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the biggest potentially negative I would find about this backpack (or any large camera backpack) is the fact that you're a big target for people who want to mug you for your gear. But again... this is true with any bag of this size.

    I always find it ironic when people say they weren't paid for a review just given the product from their good friend as a gift... Of course thats biased, you were given a $650 product from your good friend, let the good reviews keep rollin!
    We love you Daniel but please don't become like Peter and Matti, they're such mainstream vloggers these days, I remember in the old days when Peters videos would be 1 minute of intro follow by 15 minutes of Premiere editing, now its the complete opposite and just pushing products or ideas.

    I finally upgraded my bag, after about 12 years, and got a backpack with most of these features and really good quality, for about US$55, delivered. With lenses still on my wish list, there would be absolutely no way to justify spending this sort of money on a bag. More power to anyone who can though.

    Honestly it looks like a really cool bag, and supporting Peter McKinnon is a nice bonus! My question is it looks like a really "thick" bag with all of the compartments being used. Is this going to work as a "carry on" with airlines? Is there dimensions listed fully packed as you had it?

    Carry on allowance is 10 kg at most, with many airlines reducing their allowance to 8 kg. How much does this thing weigh empty? Are you really going to check all your equipment? You're probably better off with a hard case if you're going to check it. Might be good for hiking though, if you're strong enough to carry all that equipment.
