@@dommysprite3771 By that I meant David fighted through pain for saving the one he loved, holded Adam, so Falco could've drived her out. Moments where shown David remembering his team at dying breath and achieving his goal was the "without regrets".
But I get it, things could've been better, ultimately, I'd wish they would have a better ending where everyone is alive, but... There wouldn't be a tragedy to sob about. Also, your interpretation is also valid. Being a full fledged cyborg at that moment and having difficulty to remain in clear mind is also a factor here. But that's enough water, I understand your POV.

Man, that scene with Lucy at the end of the show was so fucking sad, I'm surprised she didn't break down crying. I know I would if I was in that situation.
You can break down crying on the inside and it hurts so much more. Its like drowning.
My original thought was that after it fades to black, she removes the helmet.

I cried
She actaully did, well before the moon trip. The end credits shows a sequence with lucy. Keep in mind this is after falco drops her off after driving away from adam smasher in the end. First it shows her walking all slow and sloppily. Then it shows her lighting a cigarette, presumably trying to calm herself down. She takes a bath, an ice bath. Screams in the bath, exists the bath and then she has a breakdown screaming and crying by her windowsill. It is then believed that directly after this she runs towards the next shuttle that's going to the moon. I think this is why she has bags under her eyes in the final shots of the show because she has probably very recently been crying her eyes out.

I still think about this show a lot. Amazing how something can take such a hold on you for the short amount of time it lasted definitely see this remaining as high as ghost in the shell and bladerunner for years to come

I loved this show and how everything happened. However, I would like to say, never absolutely never die for someone. Do something even harder, live. Even though it might hurt or get scary. Always do your best to live for you and that special someone.

Man this fucking anime broke me in ways I didn't know were possible. What messed me up the most was probably David fighting for a dream lucy never wanted in the end. Sure she was fascinated by the moon but in the end all she ever wanted was to live a happy life with David which he never understood. Lucy's walk on the moon in the end made me cry so badly. That shit was not fun to watch. We never got any closure either. That is probably something that hurt me as much. It just ends abruptly. Like, that's it. That just makes it harder to forget becuase you get dragged down this mourning-spiral all over again.
That's the thing, in reality he was lead by his own dream to make the one he loved dream's come true, due to the trauma from his mothers death and her dreams for him. He never had a dream so after her death, the only option left was to try and realize his moms in a sense, which showed during the final episode. It wasn't that he was blind to it only being Lucy's dream to go to the moon, it was the fact that it is was her dream in the first place lead him to forcing himself to make it the last thing he does. Fact likely is that after installing the Sandevistan, he was already going Cyber Psycho slowly with every use, but held it together due to Lucy. The dream to make his mom happy, just became firmer and firmer until all he could think about was making Lucy's dream real, because everything else was no longer real to him anyways.
The last fuel for his fire, being the view from the moon for Lucy. And only her.
Since i saw the Anime i remenber this song, it matches perfectly

An even crazier idea. on the back side of the moon She will find a secret laboratory with a machine that goes back in time into parallel worlds called the experimental machine and she will volunteer for the dangerous test because she has no point in living without David because her heart is broken. In the game THE WITCHER 3 it is mentioned.
Lucy will return while Falcon will be waiting for her to open the gate again after she has a clock counting down, this will add more drama to the season.
She will fix the past so they won't die. In transition, she automatically eliminates the awareness of herself in the parallel version that lived in the past.
She knows when she is there what will happen and will try to fix everything. In the end she will save everyone. And tell David that she is from the future and she must return to the world where he is already dead.
She will change into a version of herself that will lose all memory of herself from the future version. She will tell him that at least she experienced his love once more, and saved them from death at least in their world. She needs to go back to her world now. David sits with her version while he feels sad for the version of Lucy from the future and that she will return back to a world where there is pain and the corporations have started a destructive war.
That way the 2nd season will do two actions at the same time. The script will break everyone's heart in another round, and will also give you a good feeling that in the parallel world David survived and in the end he is together with Lucy. And all the friends are alive.
I just made all this up off the top of my head. I would love to hear from everyone.

That's a possibility, but what about the team? They are like a family, it felt similar to the disintegration of the family in Fast and Furious 1, and the emptiness in the second movie that came out.
Here it is even stronger. Season 2 can only be successful with a completely new story maybe similar but with new characters. The legend of the 1st season is closed because most of them die and it broke everyone's heart.
