The number one problem with jordan retros is the comfort. More than half of the time, it's like walking ariund in concrete blocks. We can't keep paying over $200 for dead technology from the 80s and 90s. I already stopped buying retros for this reason. Every other brand is giving us something to walk in comfortably besides Jordan. If you own anything from adidas, hoka, new balance, saucony, then you know it can be tough to rotate in retros from jordan because it's dead teachnology

Comfort is absolutely why I really stopped copping retro J’s. I’m glad you mentioned the Luka, JT and Z signature lines with Jordan Brand. I’m 42 and I know those aren’t whats hot in the streets but I could care less. I have been copping Lukas, JT’s and Zions and have really enjoyed wearing them. Hell I have actually gotten more compliments on those than I have retros. Let me also throw in the newer Air Jordan models like the 34 and up. I love rocking those as well. Super comfortable. I feel you on the comfort man, I stopped buying Jordans for a long time because of that and the fact the shapes and materials use were off to me. I did noticed since 2020 they start really remastering their retro's close to OG even with the cushioning, this is what brought me right back. I randomly hit on a shock drop Playoff 8 and been impressed since. I mainly picked up OG's the Jordan wore but for the right price I'll pick up a different color like those Green Glow 3's that dropped recently. Got them for $135 and the comfort on those is crazy compared to my 2018 Black Cement 3's. You hit on a lot of points especially that continued price increase.

Thank you for speaking up and addressing the sneaker elephant in our realm. SNKRS was going in the right direction for a time when they had the like button and provide some statistical feedback on what was trending, had some good storylines on drops, then it had what’s dropping, but all of a sudden it just went flat and kind of felt like they said we’re good, and our product speaks for itself. Nike may just be on the adage of: why fix something that works, but many have changed their perspective and looked elsewhere on many valid points you mentioned. NB, Adidas, ASICS - man I bought more of those brands in the last two years and I have seen the younger generation flip as well.

You made a great point about incorporating the comfort tech into the shoe without needing the branding (of the tech) or a gimmick to the end design. I really liked that Jordan brand tried incorporating React foam and Zoom air tech into the Jordan 1, but the execution was just poor. The Jordan 1 reacts are hideous and the Jordan 1 zooms had small design gimmicks that just didn't need to be used. It would be a lot better if they just made a Chicago (or Banned or Royal or other OG cws) Jordan 1 with either Zoom air or React inside the midsole with the standard design and no forced branding on the shoe. I feel like that would be the best way to incorporate modern comfort tech into Jordan retroes. Change the inside of a classic, not the outside.

Eddie, long time follower first time commenter. I’ve watched your videos since you were reviewing Puma Suedes on your kitchen table, and before you were showing your face. Your journey has been wild and deserved. If I was in your position I would’ve have operated in the same way. You’ve been able to maneuver through the industry so smart but you’ve stayed true to what you believe in. I salute you. I just want to say this is a good ass idea! You need to run with this man! The idea of having a series, even start it small. Just highlighting the history of the shoe with the thought process of what they were doing and make it go inline with a release would be awesome! I guess Nike doesn’t have to because right now anything is going to sell out, and they did do that storytelling in that Afleck movie Air. Which I actually enjoyed but I don’t know how well received it was. However, if they do the series in a way that was more like interviewing Tinker, and going into the kitchen and making the shoe, to why did we choose that color blocking and those colors. If done well would be great. Anyways, I’m probably rambling but with your know how and what you’ve been able to do so far with the people you e been able to meet and work with, I’m positive you can make something happen, and if you do I’m with you every step of the way! Again, I appreciate your content and the products you’ve been able to put out have been fire! All valid points Eddie and this video hopefully gives Jordan brand a little food for thought 🤔 for me there are a lot of inconsistencies especially with Jordan 1s.
Sometimes the paper inside the box is thicker and has the gold 23 numbers printed on the paper, sometimes it doesn’t.
Sometimes the shoes are individually wrapped in paper, sometimes they aren’t.
Sometimes the quality of materials are excellent and sometimes they aren’t.
For me it’s about consistency. Just be consistent with the product that you promote and sell. I like to have an idea of the quality I’m buying before I buy it.
Stories behind different colour ways would be a unique selling point and would no doubt influence consumer buy in and loyalty.
Great idea on Jordan brand creating content around releases. Input from the Design team, planning, manufacturing, sketches, materials used, intent etc.

I wear less J’s due to comfort. I’ve always been an NB guy but more so heavily in the last few years with Teddy taking over MIU. I like you love J’s but I can’t even get through an entire day in a pair. I have to carry a second pair of something else in my car.

I want to wear my brand new military blue 4s all day every day. But I can’t. It hurts. I put Move insoles in them and it helps a bit but my toes get squished and it still hurts. If they were more comfortable, that would be a game changer!

i agree with everything man...i still have a collection of 100+ including a lot of jordans, but im at the age (upper 30's) where im just not willing to drop over $200 on a new pair of shoes anymore. If i want the shoe to rock, im at the point of just doing reps at this stage. I have other things that id rather drop that kind of coin on.

You are so right. The target market is getting older and all grown up now. i havent bought a jordan in over 4 years for multiple reasons. 1 - if im gonna pay 200 for some shoes im just gonna go get it at a luxury/designer brand and 2 - the newer colorways are getting corny / they arent making retros rerelease styles better in any capacity.

Some valid points. Speaking of NB, I have been wearing their MADE stuff for years and one of the big reasons is because of value. It is much more palpable to pay $200 + for a shoe with premium materials vs a pair of Jordans that rarely scream quality.

Great video Eddie. As a 41 year old, I can’t justify spending $200+ on shoes that aren’t comfortable so I try to buy more Puma and New Balance shoes than Nike and Jordan Brand sneakers. I can take or leave the stories but when they’re compelling (Ex: Shattered Backboards and Lost & Founds) I do enjoy them.

The comfort thing is so right, I have so many Jays and I think twice before wearing them. Also I think too many people at Jordanbrand now probably have not much recollection of Jordan playing. They know Jordan as a fashion brand, which is why they end up missing the mark with so many things.

See the thing is, there’s squishy foam comfort and supportive comfort. In my opinion, Jordan is the king of supportive comfort. Everyone has their preference and that could depend on the day. Look at the amount of people that wear vans, they’re pretty much a slab of rubber with laces. I totally see your point though, once it’s shown a silhouette can be made comfortable, it should become the standard

My only disappointment with the military 4s is that they are not comfortable at all. It’s a beautiful shoe. But I can’t wear em for more than a few hours before I wanna take them off. Also the price point of some shoes is crazy. I’ll pay 215 for those. But 225 for a pair of 5s is WILD.

Air strobel (not zoom strobel) on all units + slightly wider lasts.
It will come as a tradeoff of the retro's not truly being OG. So OG-heads will in turn need to accept that.

In Europe the male/female thing is less of an issue, since size is mostly the same for both genders
I have 1 pair if AF1 that came in women sizes and I got my regular 42, my true size is 42,5 but AF1 fit wide for me. The female one feels a little wider in the front but the length is the same
