  • In this video I show you how to fix your sagging Jeep Cherokee door by replacing bad hinge pins. This is a 2 door model so the hinges are under a lot of stress and wear out easily but the process is the same for many other models and makes.

    I spent all day trying to bang the pins in from the top but they just would not seat. This is the only video on TH-cam that actually gets the pin in enough to install the e clip. Gonna try installing them in through the bottom tomorrow like this video says.

      I had the same problem, those doorman pins don't fit 100% you have to lower the insurance to get it to fit right.

    good and helpful video ! I'm about to do the driver door hinge pins at my 1998 XJ and I expect this won't be as easy as in your case - removing/installing the hinge pins can be real a pita.

    Fortunately my black 2 door sport hasn't got to the point yet of needing new pins. You are correct. A pretty straight forward repair.
    Curious how those are holding up. I imagine you gave them a good shot of lubricant after.

      I did and still do occasionally. They have started to sag now that it’s been a few years but I think my brackets are cracked.

    I got a 90 xj and ironically its not the pins that are the problem. The weld seams around the hinge point itself are pulling away. It doesn't cause any play but has pushed the front of the door slightly away from the body which is now causing a gap in the weather stripping hah. The joys of these Jeeps!

      I wish I could give them to you. I removed them when I did the 4x4 conversion. They ended up going to scrap because I couldn’t find anybody who wanted them. They were even listed for free on Facebook for a while.

      @@ProjectVenture I hate you! Lol jk. I’ve been trying to find a set of running boards similar to the stock XJ ones. Instead of them being suspended, I’m looking for ones that look like it’s one piece w the body. They almost look like a body kit. I plan on painting them body matching. I have an XJ that’s mostly restored, just have to do the interior

    hey dude quick question for ya. i have a 4 door jeep, do you have any knowledge of why the rear door would rub on the front one? seems that the rear door is slowly moving forwards towards the front door. would you recommend i just change the hinge pins on the rear door as well?

    • @ProjectVenture
      @ProjectVenture  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      First open the door slightly and try and lift up on it. If there is a lot of play in the hinge first make sure that the hinge is not loose. If it’s not then you might want to replace the pins.

  • @sponge81235
    @sponge81235 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think you could take out a hinge at a time and avoid a jack stand

    • @ProjectVenture
      @ProjectVenture  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the door is not supported it wants to twist if only one hinge is attached. Also if only the lower hinge is attached there is enough leverage on the lower hinge that it may bend and then you’ll have a worse problem than before.

    Do you know how the door "detents" (the spots the door holds open at) works?
    i've owned my 2 door cherokee for a year and the door isn't sagging bad, but i wasn't aware the door had the notches or whatever it needs to hold open until one day i saw my friend open the passenger door and it stayed open itself.
    is that a hinge related piece or something else

    • @ProjectVenture

    • @ProjectVenture

      Mine went in pretty easy but sometimes they don’t. You might need to press them in. Easiest way I’ve found is using a clamp and a socket.

      Not so, the 4 door units have smaller doors than the 2 door ones. I know this because i took some doors for my MJ and only the smaller ones will fit from a 4 door.
