Listening to this articulate and intelligent conversation from Calgary…thank you, it was very enlightening. Especially learning the cost of concrete towers is 30% more expensive per sqft than infills. So much risk for developers!
Mark is so right, we need to have conversations about the communities we want, but also those we will *need* in the future and get real about what needs to be done now to make way for those. It most definitely means changing our current ideas about what home and community looks like.
Most Canadians have not travelled to Europe or Asia or even the middle east where beehive coexistence is the norm, with central parks and retail and entertainment mixed in to create beautiful, intimate communities of connection. Canadians are so used to large lots, single family homes and driving to the strip mall. This is not sustainable with our 21st century needs. Plus, it’s not healthy, we need to reconnect. Depression and mental health issues are exploding for a reason. Anyways, inspiring conversation! Good luck Kelowna, wishing you a safe and productive year ahead!

Is city council still trying to wrap their collective heads around this issue? How many more meetings are they going to need lol
