    Several people are posting their up/down speeds which are more than enough for a HD stream. Please refer to 1:18 in the video and the text blurb on the screen shortly after that. Higher upload and download speeds are a good thing so if your up/down speeds are = to or higher than what you see there, you will be able to stream perfectly fine. Also, when I say Megabytes or Kilobytes talking about bitrate and upload speed, I mean to say Megabit and Kilobit.

      Hello, for some reason, twitch alerts does not work (just stays at the opening screen, no twitch login and the app I found standalone just places 60 files in output folder and "whoops ..." message appears ad does not work).
      I would appreciate any suggestion if possible. Thx

      Maybe less people would ask, if you said and wrote it correctly.
      You were talking about Mb/s (M like Mega (10^6) and b like bit (not Byte!!!))
      You wrote mb/s instead of Mb/s and your were pronuncing it megabyte when you wanted to say megabit.
      One byte is 8 bits. (We're using b to refer to bits and B to refer to byte)
      Otherwise, cool vid, thanks a lot.

      Don't doubt yourself! I've been making videos for a long time (I had an old account like 10 years ago or so for a while) so I have had a lot of experience over the years. Keep making videos, keep practicing, and keep pushing yourself to do better. Take a look at some of your favorite videos or some successful videos and really try to analyze what about that video makes it good and how you can incorporate that into your own. Good luck with your channel!

    In regards to testing your internet connection's speed, Mbps stands for MegaBITS per second and MBps stands for MegaBYTES per second. 8bits per byte. Speedtest.net shows Mbps by default. ISPs will try to trick you on this all the time, or they just don't know. Time Warner kept telling me I would have 300 megabytes a second of download speed. Yeah... Sure.
    awesome video.

    Nice job, just replace "megabytes per second" with "megabits per second". There's a 8x difference between the two.

    • @coma13794
      @coma13794 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mbps (megabits) is actually a very relevant number because bitrates for encoding/streaming are generally expressed in kbps (kilobits), not kilobytes or megabytes, so it actually helps to know your upstream bandwidth in the same unit of measure.

    • @jersher7122
      @jersher7122 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      this is an extremely important piece of information required, the video states "Mbps" as megabytes/second, which is incorrect, I spent the last 20 minutes trying to figure out if you really need 3-4 MB/s of upload speed to stream. Awesome video though! and thanks for the comment

    MB is megaBYTES Mb is megaBITS. When looking at internet speeds, they are always talking about megaBITS (i.e. 20 Mbps is 20 megabits per second). There are 8 megabits in one megabyte so that's a much different number. Just trying to help you out fam. Other than that, great video! It's definitely helping me out with setting up my own stream.

    The thing about streaming is that it's expensive. Unfortunately most people don't have great internet or an expensive computer. Streaming is something that only people with a lot of free money can do, twitch is clearly for the popular TH-cam. For example the only way you can be seen on twitch is by having plenty of viewers, something that most people won't get, secondly setting this stuff up requires fast computers and apps. Streaming is just something that benefits the few popular steamers and abandons the majority streamers

    • @cooleobrad
      @cooleobrad  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are playing retro or a lot of indie games you really don't need a great computer or connection. And you can even stream directly off of PS4, maybe other consoles as well. But I agree very few see little if anything from streaming. It's fun to do though!

    • @RoboFloyd
      @RoboFloyd 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      cooleobrad what twitch needs to do is to fix their viewing system. The system is setup to where only the big streamers are being viewed. For example I stream Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty and I found that gaining followers and viewers is quite difficult. For someone with a low budget you're not gonna get anywhere in twitch community. What I think would be great for the community would be for the more popular streamers to ether stop streaming for the day, or give the less popular streaming a shoutout or attempt to help them. This is something only the community can fix

    1 MBit per second = 1/8 MByte per second.
    most connections are advertised in MBit/s,
    so 10 MBit/s upstream gives you around 1,25 MByte per second.

    Great video!! nice quality and very informative. Just a quick note on your upload to twitch rate. The max is 3500 as you said, but is it still important to note that people with weaker internet may not be able to view your stream at that rate? I guess we could leave them in the dust:-) I just built a nice intel rig to handle my twitch stream but one thing I'm still curious about is what specific windows to have running (minimized) for Twitch to recognize them. Right now I have - OBS-xbox windows app (nicer than elegato), snaz, moobot, twitch dashboard (only to see how many viewers and stream connectivity) and Streamlabs (alerts) Please let me know if I have anything unnecessary running at the same time. Is there any way of seeing your "current viewers" other than your twitch dashboard? Moobot doesn't provide that. Keep up the great work!

    • @cooleobrad
      @cooleobrad  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think people with poorer connections may not be able to view a 3500 bitrate, but if you are a twitch partner people can adjust the quality level of your stream on their end so for Twitch partners it doesn't really matter I don't think. I'm not sure if there is any way to see your current viewers other than the twitch dashboard. But it doesn't sound like you are running anything unnecessary. Best of luck with your streams!

    Watching in 2019... still deciding if I should stream or not.. thank you for the comprehensive guide.. 1 question, in using Nightbot, won’t you have issues with copyright when your viewers request popular songs? Thanks.

    • @cooleobrad
      @cooleobrad  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely recommend you try streaming and thank you for the kind words! You won't have any issues with copyright while you're live, however, after you are done streaming your VOD may be muted in spots with copyrighted songs.

    I think you mean megabits per second not megabytes per second. There is a big difference.

    How can you play with fps games online with 40ms base ping and upload some Megabits of video in real time? Ping goes crazy. Just wondering..

      Best way is to just get out there and do it. Some people are comfortable with a webcam, some aren't.

    Mb/s is MegaBITS per second. not Bites. There is a difference, before you go phoning your internet provider and bitching. Just know that the lowercase "b" is bits [Mb/s], and a capitialized "B" is Bites [MB/s]. When calculating data transfer, know that it takes 8 Megabits to make 1 Megabite. A common oversight.
    Thanks for the informative video!

      You’re completely correct! I tried to clear this up in some of the comments, but whenever I update this tutorial I’ll be sure to fix this.

    As someone who's interested in getting my name out there in making videos of a game (in this case dota 2) would you suggest starting by twitch streaming or making vids on TH-cam?

    • @cooleobrad
      @cooleobrad  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both. If you really want to become successful and potentially make a living through streaming/video content, you need to reach as many audiences as possible. Streaming and videos also serve different purposes. With streaming there isn't much editing and its all on the fly interaction with fans. Highlights from your stream will make great condensed videos for those that don't have time to go through a multi-hour video for the best part. Also, making guides or other DoTA related videos will help more fans of the game find you when they search for those things on TH-cam or Google.

    Really helpful! Just one question; what mic do you use?

    • @cooleobrad
      @cooleobrad  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The mic I'm currently using is the Blue Yeti which you can find here - amzn.to/2hWzQie. I use that in addition to a windscreen (amzn.to/2igChdg) to help filter out sharp s's and p's. I did an unboxing and sound test of this mic on my channel here: th-cam.com/video/x2JY2HZu4yY/w-d-xo.html .

    I stream art on twitch, very slowly building an audience (currently 9 followers). Have this HUGE stream delay with about 30 or more seconds of delay. I have good internet and I can't figure out why it's such a big gap. Any help?

    • @cooleobrad
      @cooleobrad  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I might be wrong, but I think Twitch might have a slight built in delay. There is also an option in the settings on Twitch under 'Channel & Videos' called 'Reduce stream delay' which may also help. Make sure you don't have any delay enabled in OBS as well. Best of luck!
