I like how the first track starts with a voice saying "-We came in" and the last track ends with the first part of that recording with the voice saying "So this is where-". So the album is like on a perpetual loop. "This is where we came in" is a common expression in Britain. People would show up late to films and then they'd go see it again to get the part they missed. When they got to the part where they came in the first time, they left. So it emphasizes the whole "this album is also a movie" theme. Monty Python even did this as a way to end their sketch "The Bishop".
i still remember the day i realize that, 14 years old, with more than 15 entires listens to the album, i got paralize and scared, like fear and chills, love it
We don't know Pink's story after the final song. The album itself never finishes. It reflects on the fact that even once we break down our walls, we build new ones up. To know the fate of Pink, one must break down their own walls. The album itself persuades the audience to reflect on their own failings, their traumas and hence their walls built up using these negative experiences as a self-defense mechanism. If one can effectively confront their wall, they may see something similar to the final song "in the flesh". Although, with the breaking of the wall comes new uncertainties, and new walls. "In the flesh" again becomes "in the flesh?", inserting new uncertainties which come with starting of a new life.
@@mana3735 That's too bad, I absolutely loved it; however, I can't separate in my mind whether it's because I love the album as a story or that the movie is actually objectively good. The Wall is by far the single greatest album (meaning something that ISN'T just a collection of songs) ever made. I say it's the best album in the old school definition of an album. Meaning, it has a plot, a story, and you go through a journey as you listen. You feel every single thing that the artist intended. There's no need for "hyper ambiguity" that so many artists rely on. There is just enough room for interpretation and also just enough rigid a structure for the art.
I love the little spoken sentence you get linking the last song to the first. Turn the volume up and you can hear at the end "ISNT THIS WHERE" then "WE CAME IN" just before the first song.
good catch. that's Bruce Johnston in there from the Beach Boys on Show Must Go On and Waiting for the Worms. They wanted to use the whole group but they cancelled on them at the last minute. Bruce is the only one that showed up.
Aleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeex!!!!! Love this reaction, nobody (as I know) reacted to this album completely, so, here my congratulations!!! And what I liked the most about this is that some people (a lot of), know only a few songs, and never tried to listen it as it is, an album that is an experience, that must be heard like a movie, regardless of whether you like it or not, but you could FEEL the whole experience and all the things behind the singles (Another brick... pt.2, Comfortably Numb, Run Like Hell), here there's a story made music... I would really love if you could make a reaction to the film, that's worth seeing at least once... I love your channel more every day, hug from Argentina - Fernando
Great video, I'd love to be able to hear The Wall again for the first time. I'd highly recommend "The Final Cut" or Roger Waters' first solo album "The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking". They're both a lot closer to The Wall than any of the other Floyd albums
Glad you enjoyed it, there's such alot to get through in one sitting like that! As someone who grew up listening to Floyd. I would suggest taking a look at the Pink Floyd album "Meddle" which came out just before DSotM. Not sure if you'll really like it but would love to hear your thoughts. Side 2 is just 1 track - "Echoes" In this case however I would suggest watch Echoes Live at Pompeii, where the guys play in an empty Roman Amphitheater with no audience. It's a great chance to see who's doing what, and the kit they had available. I appreciate it's a long piece but as it covers the earliest primordial life in the oceans and how as modern humans we are just echoes of that early life and connected at the deepest levels. So I guess it takes a minute or two to let that soak in😉
Their next album after the wall is the final cut, which is a sequel of this album, worth checking it out. Although it doesn't even sounds like rock, definitely one of my favorite albums.
You are an unhistorical dork, Alex. This album is so beyond the music. It’s a story, poem, an autobiography. Do you know what happened at Anzio 1944? The trumpets of Jericho which was the last sound Pink’s Dad heard? the music was just an incredible addition. I do hate the musicians political beliefs,, but hey I know great music and writing.
A lot of people dislike the third part, either saying it's too melodramatic or just too boring. I've always found that part to be its strength; the real soul of the album. Where it gets past the notion of stringing songs together and just gets at you for 15-20 minutes. Ending with Bring the Boys Back Home...and then part 4 kicks off with Comfortably Numb which, I agree, is a weaker track.
Weell done!! you survived the Epic .Try watching the movie now to get a complete picture to see where album fits in . I agree The Wall is The one Floyd album that you may listen too at some later date rather than over and over due to cognative story. Lot to take in ,but brilliant, other albums you can just chill out and not have to think, just feel. I think too that you may well be more a Roger Waters fan more so than some of the soul driven Gilmour influences.Look forward too your recap.
I used to visit my mate and his lady every weekend, drop acid and watch the wall on vhs and worked out each time what it meant Then like a dream it'd fade till week or so later i'd have a new meaning We're brought up as soldiers, groupthink, lonely, class, put up a wall and become low key facist Scary and helpful, still only see glimpses
Glad you liked it. You will probably enjoy The Final Cut..... which is the most underrated Floyd album in many people's opinions... it's basically an extention of the wall cause it came after it.
I think you must come to the conclusion that Pink Floyd, while adhering loosely to the archetype of Rock'n'Roll, have their own artistic agenda which is fully formed in their own vision.
It's definitely a soundtrack not an album per-Se / I first heard it at the Roger Waters Berlin 1990 concert with sinead o’connor and other ft. voices, so it felt more like an album. Then I watched the movie and captured everything without any problem. Greetings and I hope you see the movie.
Yeah the Berlin Wall coming down. That concert was so fitting and it was also my first intro to them. I have the movie, cd and want to get a copy of the live in Berlin concert.
Glad you are doing Piper at the Gates of Dawn! If you like that one then Saucer Full of Secrets would be good! I really would like a Meddle reaction. It is such a great album!

I can really relate to the wall. A few years ago in high school? I’d often listen to it when going through a manic or depressive episode (diagnosed with manic depression) I felt like I was Pink. Great album, very emotional.

This is my favorite Floyd album and I also think comfortably numb is overrated! Good song but not at the level everyone makes it out to be. Great watch.
I have been waiting for this one. So much to dig into. I think one of the things that truly separates this is the top notch vocal melodies. Roger Waters dominates this album and his voice pierces through every bit of it.
EXACTLY. he probably has the attention span of a 12yr old girl. instead of being humble to LEAVE his reaction in the hands of the (SUPREME) artists... he decides to give us HIS half-assed cliff's notes.
Bro what do you think you are an expert? Reacting and reviewing are not the same. True review should be done by people like Brian May, Jimmy Page and other professionals.
... they tend to write too many slow songs in a static, very static groove. Compared to Genesis/Yes/Rush/King Crimson, PF is rhythmically a bit stiff... but I guess to be on the slow, epic side is their thing. Overall too narcotic compared to other Prog Rock of that era.
