    Thanks so much for the wonderful species profile. We are absolutely loving our rabbits, snails and yes, we thought a couple of ours were dead as well, but they were just taking really long naps. Apparently we do not have them in heated tank, but the room is heated by a space heater because they are in a filterless heater less tank with the female beta but it’s been quite a long time and they seem to still be doing OK that tank does get hit with sun for a good portion of the day so maybe that’s why but also the space heater probably helps in that room we will see how they continue to go we have the black ones and the orange ones hopefully they will breed that would be really nice too….. thanks again for the great info Daniel!

    We bought 2 rabbit fish and after 3 months they had a baby... The female snail gives birth through the end of the snail shell and the female’s shell cracked and but has now healed! They have now had another ‘baby’ but at the moment it’s just a shell, we can’t see anything in the shell so hopefully it’s growing inside where we can’t see.

    They will grow back antennae, Also i find that they like to hide under plants when they nap. If you have some moss balls or just christmas moss they like to nudge themselves under it a little bit.

      Haha, snail characteristics for sure! Even most land snail like to find a wee corner to nestle in for their forty winks don't they?

    Mine seems so inactive and slow and just seems to stay in one spot a day. Is this normal? I’ve had him 2 weeks and only seen him eating glass algae once 😔 I even dropped in some spinach next to him but he doesn’t eat it

    Does rapid cure have copper in it? 😪 I use it every now and then for my tank, I had a 2 year old yellow mystery Inka snail, he died a few weeks a go😥 he was huge and we loved him. I wonder if it was those blue rapid cure drops??

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is that Kordon's you mean? I don't think it contains copper but it does have other ingredients that are harmful to snails and invertebrates. I believe they do have a warning not to use if you have those in your tank.
      I'm really sorry to hear you lost your snail. It is likely then the Rapid Cure was a contributing factor then though.

    I found some online and reeeaally want some man thank you for this video. Maybe I missed it but did you mention how much space you'd give these guys? I kinda want to do a tank special just for them, no fish this time. Love snails they're my favorite tank critter.

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah definately snails are awesome. These are definately without doubt one of my favorites too.
      You can keep them in smaller tanks. A ten gallon would be fine for a few but I guess a good rule of thumb for any of out wet friends that live with would be to go as big as you're able.
      I hope you enjoy them as much as I do if you decide to go for it. Bet you will.

      @@DanielKeepingFish awesome thank you so much! Im hoping to do a 30-50 gal set up so sounds like they will be happy 😁 glad to hear from you. I can't wait! They're colours are so beautiful! Funny people think snails are gross my mom refuses to let me put them in her aquarium 😂 even the little ramshorns! I think they are just adorable and I could watch em crawl around all day!

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Carlie_flower yeah for sure. You can have quite a few happy rabbits in a tank like that.
      And I agree with you about snails. Ramshorn are awesome, interesting wee guys. They're always getting up to mad antics and they're almost athletic by snail standards. Pretty too.
      I even enjoy the Malaysian Trumpet snails. Wouldn't have a planted tank without them.
      I'm not as keen on the Nerites purely due to the females leaving little white eggs all over the tank and unfortunately where I live Mystery Snails are banned so I haven't had the pleasure.

    • @Carlie_flower
      @Carlie_flower 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DanielKeepingFish nerites are probably my least favorite snail so far, even after pond and bladder snails haha I just picked up some teeny baby rabbits though! I'm excited I scored them at a lfs. Employee said all the tiny snails look the same and I could have em for free 😂 win! Good thing I have plenty of tanks cycled hahaha

    What is their preferred food ?

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  ปีที่แล้ว

      Anything really; sinking pellets, algae wafers, flakes or vegetables like blanched corgette/zucchini. Some people like to make their own blend of snello or use science foods like Rapashi.
      I'd say a varied diet is always a good way to go and food with some calcium content will be great.

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't keep Goldfish but they try to eat most things don't they? Might be wrong, not sure.
      They tend to do best at different temperature ranges though, that might be the decider of you.
      Good excuse to set up a wee dedicated Rabbit Snail tank!

      @@DanielKeepingFish Thank you for getting back to me. Yes Goldfish eat everything. Surprising I had a hitchhiker in my tank that they missed. I now think it might have been a nitrite snail. I met some guy at the pet store who I gave it to. I would love to set up a rabbit snail tank but I am behind in getting my fish into nice bigger tanks and I got a real scare about my betta today.

    I bought a lot of ramshorn snails and mystery snails a week ago. I doubt I have any algae in my tank. I don't know if I should get any rabbit snails.

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We aren't allowed to keep Mystery Snails over here so I don't have any experience of keeping them together to share with you I'm afraid.
      I wish it were different, I'd love to experience breeding Mysteries.
      I know they have huge appetites though so you'd need to ensure there is enough algae to graze on. You can cultivate algae on pebbles in wee containers on a window ledge and rotate them so you always have some growing if that's any help to you.

      Guppy Moreno greetings to you also.
      I'm afraid I had to part with them. They really seemed to struggle with that gravel and all my other tanks at the time either had similar gravel or had predators in them which would have attacked the rabbits. Apart from the aquarium they were originally in where the Endlers kept harassing them three of my tanks have Assassin snails in them and one is now a Pea Puffer tank.
      I liked them very much though and will be getting more as soon as I set up a tank that is appropriate to their needs.

    How can you tell if its a male rabbit snail or a female rabbit snail?

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Kathleen Monsegue I don't believe there are any external characteristics to differentiate between them unfortunately.
      If you are wishing to breed them your best chance is to get six or more and hope the odds are in your favour that at least one is a different sex than the rest.
      That said they can retain sperm for some time, I've read up to six months so it is possible to buy one snail and still have a baby snail if you are extremely lucky.

    I took my three out of shrimp tank because I couldn't stand the mess they make. Of course having white gravel didn't help. They are interesting creatures but they can poop for England. They also uprooted most of the plants. They are now happily in their own tank.
