I actually tried playing this start, it's a lot more difficult than it looks. Definitely creating the Empire of Scandinavia from this dynasty should be an achievement.
How Jon manages to be entertaining in his silly, grandiose way and at the same time actually WIN at the grand strategy games he plays...a testament to how much love, thought, and talent goes into the channel :)

Actually, the "Å" is closer in pronounciation to the "ou" in "ought" - I chuckled when Jon managed to mangle the sound in the sentence "it's like the french eau, that'll be the closest I can probably come up with" just to get it almost perfect in when thereafter stating "so, this ou(å)ght to be the county of Eau(?)land"
There is an upside to having multiple of the same men-at-arms, no matter their size they still count as one unit so even if you wanted to you can't divide them between armies but you can divide multiple units
They also cost less than the upgraded versions when they're split up. However, you'll quickly reach your Man at Arms limit if you keep them all split, so it takes some balancing. Useful for very small empires though.
@@florac1995 You can't split siege units either is my point, so if you want to siege multiple cities effectively, you'd want at least 2 MaA siege units is all I'm saying. When you have 25k+ troops, you want to end wars quickly, and multiple siege MaAs helps with that.

It's fine really, having alot of sons gives you more then enought renown to disinherit the ones who you don't want. When I did my "Mother of all" achivement run, i ended up with a dynasty of over 1218 living members since I started to spread increased fertility traits among my daughters. Everyone of my rulers had about 10 kids and I always made a choice using the disinherit option, moew choices means you have better options for your next heir since this game unfortunately grants every 2nd child or so horrible stats. My children started to take over Europe eventually... One of my distant relatives are a ruler of the empire of scandinavia... African vikings? lol.

Spent so much money telling my vassal-children to stop going to war with each other and play nice. Kingdoms enough for everyone, let your sister have one too.

Once every 10 years or so I have to check if someone ends up with multiple duchy titles which just puts them on a path to rebel against their kings. Sort of wished the kings could sort it out themselves when I have the whole african continent to manage... /frustrated sigh. At least it got better once I went fuedal... as tribal they fought all the time. xD Other things that seem to help is to focus your off-spring on high stewardship and basicly only make stewards vassals. Sure eventually you will have some none stewards inheriting titles, but that's when you have to start force your hand down on them before you have multiple intrigue or marshal vassals raging wars between eachother.

(Watching on my phone so text is for ants) Do a bunch of really morally dubious stuff, like blackmailing the queen and trying to assassinate the king, aka his liege. And then he wonders why the character is getting so stressed. After extolling the virtues of CK3 for making you face consequences for going against your character's personality traits.
You learn the hard way: Make sure when you go to war you select the title you want. I literally laughed when I saw you went to war over the county and not the duchy.
And the 'Ä', as in for example Värend, is pronounced like the 'E' in error, if you pronounce it like "ε.ra:h" (though the vowel is long, as per default in Swedish)

The king of Sweden just granting you the Duchy title was a bit anticlimactic , but the moment where you finally give your character a crown was really worth the wait. I quite like the quirk of gaining headgear based on your achievements , it's gonna make a great family tradition. You absolutely should change your dynasty motto to " We earn our hats" or something
I've been playing in Ireland starting in 867. It's the height of the Viking power and I'm a small insular christian county. My guy is now 64, has 22 martial, 18 prowess, over 2000 troops and controls 2 duchies. He is absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, each and every single one of his sons are disappointing. Not a one of them would make a good successor and now I feel like I understand Tywin Lannister a lot more, constantly looking to keep the legacy of the family strong and being constantly underminded by my own children. I'm amazed he's lived as long as he has. He got seriously injured and an infected wound in his fourties, then had a botched treatment make it worse and he was literally on deaths door for three years but somehow made a full recovery.

Hey Jon, I was watching your livestream the other day, and I saw that you didn't find how to change laws to Elective or found where Tanistry was. If you click any title it gives you the info of all its De Jure territories, etc. as you've seen many times. In the appropriate titles you control, at the bottom you will see a button called "Add Laws" from where you can use prestige to change the succession to elective. It's a different menu than the one under succession in the Realm view. I hope you find this useful.

Of you give them their inheritance early and then hover over them, it considers them as having already inherited it. They just don't get anything else.
Check your traits Jon. I had a similar thing happen when I tried to start a murder plot. I had Just and that stresses out Just characters. Blackmail may conflict with your traits.
I had a character with a full schemer tree unlocked who was also "Compassionate". Bloody useless. Even imprisoning people (with cause) made his stress jump incredible amounts. I don't know how he lived to 70 with a stress level of 2 but I managed, lol.

As a swede, I'm already lmao 2 min into the video xD Å is actually more accurately pronounced like the O in core or the first O in boredom. Ä is pronounced like the EI in heir or the AI in fair. and lastly Ö is pronounced like the I in sir or the E in concern, (not exactly but that's the closest I can think of right now). There's some help for you, wouldn't mind the mispronunciation though, 'cause it's hilarious :)
36:15, I'm not sure if this has been answered elsewhere but I was actually in a similar situation recently. In that instance I took the county which destroyed not only the duchy title but also the kingdom one. As such I would recommend against it until you're strong enough to take the rest of Sweden yourself. That said, I'm not sure if special succession laws would affect that, specifically in cases where the kingdom title isn't guaranteed to go to the next of that dynasty line. In the case where you vote for the next king, it's highly possible that the title will just move to the current heir.
I actually started cheering when Olaf got his dukedom. Hooray! Long live Owland! Also, Jon... you should start thinking about taking over three of those holy sites and organizing the religion... Can't wait for the next episode in the adventures of Olaf, soon to be Adalvar!
Having 3 separate archer units is actually good; it means they will reinforce 3x as fast should you take casualties since each reinforces separately. Costs a bit of prestige to switch them out later, but you won't be doing that for a while.
Jon, just FYI concerning inheritence. Scandinavians can get the Scandinavian elective law for duchies and up. If you take that then vote for your heir, he gets the duchies and ALL counties you own in it. Do this with your main eventual duchy and kingdom and you'll have a good power base.
Pronunciation school is back in session! Your pronuciation of Värmaland is a very good example of how the letter Å is pronounced. Unfortunately, the amount of the letter Å in Värmaland is 0. Ä (dots over an A) is pronounced like ai in Chair. Å (ring over an A) is pronounced like Ou in Four. Ö (dots over an O) is pronounced like the i in Bird, or ea in learned.
Hi Jon! How to pronounce Å: It's an A shifted towards O. Think about the A in "apple." Now think about how that A changes when you say the word "father." It gets fuller, and goes further back in your throat. Now think about the a in the word "naught." It goes even farther, and your lips start to round, like you're saying "O." So start with "naught" and go further so it sounds like an O, but it's really still an A. That's the vowel for Åland. As for Öland, the Ö sounds much like the O in "worm." To be more precise, it's like rounding your lips like you're going to say O, but then you say "eh" instead. The Ö is essentially OE, so if you've got a way to pronounce Œ, try that, but the "worm" O is reasonably close.

Ä = Sometimes like the word "air" or the first E in "energy"; sometimes similar to the A you used for Värend, so you're already pretty close with your pronunciation. Tips to Jon: Catebury Church in Kent is usually a suberp piggy bank that is raided faster than anyone can respond. The pronomciation of the Swedish Ö is like the Turkish Ö. Ä is pronounced similarly to the Anglo-Saxon letter Æ.
Pronounciation tip: write it into Google Translate and click the speaker icon, you'll get a machine voice pronouncing it for you! Also, you pronounced "Värend" pretty much spot of the first time.

The real problem is that there is currently a UI bug. The tooltip doesn't tell you when you would gain stress by blackmailing.

Å is actually more accurately pronounced like the O in core or the first O in boredom.
Ä is pronounced like the EI in heir or the AI in fair.
and lastly Ö is pronounced like the I in sir or the E in concern, (not exactly but that's the closest I can think of right now).
There's some help for you, wouldn't mind the mispronunciation though, 'cause it's hilarious :)
36:15, I'm not sure if this has been answered elsewhere but I was actually in a similar situation recently. In that instance I took the county which destroyed not only the duchy title but also the kingdom one. As such I would recommend against it until you're strong enough to take the rest of Sweden yourself. That said, I'm not sure if special succession laws would affect that, specifically in cases where the kingdom title isn't guaranteed to go to the next of that dynasty line. In the case where you vote for the next king, it's highly possible that the title will just move to the current heir.
I actually started cheering when Olaf got his dukedom. Hooray! Long live Owland! Also, Jon... you should start thinking about taking over three of those holy sites and organizing the religion...

Jon, Sweden hasn't been completely occupied. He's the King of Sweden, which means Sweden also includes the land he controls through his vassals.
FYI Jon: If you get overwhelmed by stress and the game is still paused you can hold a feast to put it under the threshold and the event won't trigger

Having 3 separate archer units is actually good; it means they will reinforce 3x as fast should you take casualties since each reinforces separately.
Costs a bit of prestige to switch them out later, but you won't be doing that for a while.

Jon, just FYI concerning inheritence. Scandinavians can get the Scandinavian elective law for duchies and up. If you take that then vote for your heir, he gets the duchies and ALL counties you own in it. Do this with your main eventual duchy and kingdom and you'll have a good power base.

Your pronuciation of Värmaland is a very good example of how the letter Å is pronounced. Unfortunately, the amount of the letter Å in Värmaland is 0.
Ä (dots over an A) is pronounced like ai in Chair.
Å (ring over an A) is pronounced like Ou in Four.
Ö (dots over an O) is pronounced like the i in Bird, or ea in learned.

Hi Jon! How to pronounce Å: It's an A shifted towards O. Think about the A in "apple." Now think about how that A changes when you say the word "father." It gets fuller, and goes further back in your throat. Now think about the a in the word "naught." It goes even farther, and your lips start to round, like you're saying "O." So start with "naught" and go further so it sounds like an O, but it's really still an A. That's the vowel for Åland.
As for Öland, the Ö sounds much like the O in "worm." To be more precise, it's like rounding your lips like you're going to say O, but then you say "eh" instead. The Ö is essentially OE, so if you've got a way to pronounce Œ, try that, but the "worm" O is reasonably close.

That being said, Swedish is a bit complicated with how it's vowels are pronounced. Sometimes it's one way, other times not.
These are the closest sounds to the letters I can think of as a Swede.

Catebury Church in Kent is usually a suberp piggy bank that is raided faster than anyone can respond.
The pronomciation of the Swedish Ö is like the Turkish Ö.
Ä is pronounced similarly to the Anglo-Saxon letter Æ.
Pronounciation tip: write it into Google Translate and click the speaker icon, you'll get a machine voice pronouncing it for you! Also, you pronounced "Värend" pretty much spot of the first time.
Jon, you can revoke mayors' cities without penalty. Good for making sure your councillors have some land and for making sure good people stick around
