*I hope this is an ultimate in-depth review for the ZTE Nubia Flip. I tried to cover everything I can on this phone for people looking to purchase one of these. Hopefully I've been able to deliver*
A massive thank you to ZTE for sending me this sample out for review!
I really do appreciate it! I hope this video has covered most of the main things about the phone.
While we had the small hiccup with the first unit at least the second was great for the review.
You can purchase it here if you like:
    bit.ly/3xYAQLQ
    Nubia Official: intl.nubia.com/
My opinions in this video are my own, I am not being paid by ZTE they have just sent out the sample for me to review which is what I like to do.
I have to select "paid promotion" on TH-cam as I received something of value from a third party.
    -
I hope you all enjoyed this review! I think I managed to cover everything. Would you buy this device? What are your opinions on this release? Let me know down below!

It was Royole first. Then Samsung with their Fold and sometime around there was the Motorola RAZR 2020. Then other manufacturers followed in the last few years including Tecno, Oppo, Blackview, Huawei etc. Microsoft made the Surface Duo but that didn't have a foldable display.

    • @_gelon
      @_gelon 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@SMOOREZ Yeah, Royole did it like one year earlier than the Fold 1 prototype sent to the press and destroyed by them, as being probably the least reliable phone ever seen. They fixed it later for the commercial release, so it took like one year and a half from the Royole to the second foldable ever, the fixed Fold 1.
But, to be fair, Samung showcased their foldable technology a few years earlier (2011 or 2013) than Royole (2017). And the first flexible OLED screen implementation ever was the Samsung Note Edge in 2014.
I own the Royole Flexpai and it is an interesting device. But it is as fragile as it gets, it has TONS of warnings the first time you boot it, it's not really usable due the massive hinge, barebones OS (WaterOS) and many other problems. But, in opinion, it has the best aspect ratio ever seen in a foldable. Foldable phones are only worth for reading, so square screen doesn't make sense whatsoever, like in the modern foldable phones.
Currently I own the Flexpai, Mate X2, Fold 3, Fold 4 and Mix Fold 3. Being the Xiaomi my daily driver. I love foldables xD

How interesting - I've repaired hundreds of Z Flip devices (you are correct - it is quite difficult for the outer display half), and the inside of this phone looks virtually identical to the internal layout of the current iteration of Flips. Suspecting ZTE let the big players figure out how to properly mature the manufacturing and then followed suit. Smart.

On a basic level everyone agrees with you. What you're describing is an ideal situation. We don't live in that perfect world.
This channel being a private business reviewing a private business should be taken into account. This channel has been transparent about receiving products without further compensation or approval from those companies. Any reasonable person will recognize that maintaining the possibility for future relationships will require a minimal level of respect and decency.
This channel thanking the company for replacing a defective device they volunteered for review will certainly help them acquire more products from other companies in the future, whereas you're completely obvious and unnecessary statement would be a deterrence.
In simpler terms, you're stating what most already know through context or reading between the lines. Have you ever heard the saying 'you'll catch more files with honey than vinegar'?
If this were government run on either end you'd have a compelling point. As they aren't, you're stating the obvious at best, misunderstanding the intention from ignorance, or worst of all you're plain stupid and trying to start shit because boredom, loneliness, attention, who cares.
Enjoy the channels content for what it is and be grateful. Stop being an ass.

46:00 Speaking of folding phones and needing to be careful with them, my Motorola Razr 40 Ultra's screen suddenly stopped working, out of the blue. It still looked like it's in perfect condition, and the screen itself did "work", but didn't respond to touches at all. Luckily I got a full refund for it and I've had my 8 months of fun with it, I could've got a replacement, but since the " fresh new phone" magic wears off after a bit, I ended up going back to a regular phone. It was a great phone when it worked though! Just thought I'd share my experiences if anyone happens to be thinking about trying one out. I did take good care of it, and like I said, the phone looked still brand new. But I guess it's nice to know that if (probably when) it goes wrong, getting a refund or replacement should hopefully be as seemless and easy as it was for me.

I've never understood these flip foldables. This is probably a good introduction to foldables though. I've had a fold 4 since release. I enjoy the small screen on the front as a small phone. Unfold when I want to get busy. I've had one disaster. The main board went out. Out of nowhere. I was just using the phone folded and it went black and wouldn't turn on.

Also side note but i just want a phone with two regular glass screens that clamshells like a Nintendo ds.
I do not understand the point of foldable displays that can only fold for so many times before inevitably getting damaged. What is the use case for foldable phones?
If i want to watch media on a big screen I already have a tablet or a laptop. I cant pocket the phone folded anyway because the screen is too delicate and women's clothing hates having pockets so if im already carrying a handbag I might as well carry a tablet.
At least with two glass screens i could multi task by having two apps open at once and the durability would still be there.

A really great video. I'm on my second viewing lol.
You've given me a lot to think about re folding phones.
I've never really been all that bothered by them but I might have to rethink when I next update my phone.
I'm not totally convinced just yet.
The camera test did produce some really nice photos, but. Yes sorry there's a but. I originally watched this video on my LG tv downstairs in the lounge using the TH-cam app on my Sky Q box and most of the pictures hurt my eyes. I think it was because my eyes were trying to focus properly on the images and no matter how hard they tried they failed. Yes I'm old lol longsighted wermaring varifocals with prisms to correct double vision but still for some reason this made my eyes hurt.
Some of the cameras on the Welcome phones have produced better pictures in my opinion.
There were some really great photos though. I really like the night selfie in half light. That's a really cracking photo.
I did like the zoom photos.
Ii found the videos way better to watch with less eye strain.
One of my cats Miss Dervla was staring at the tv when Miss Ripley made an appearance. 😂
The screen resolution is pretty fantastic and the sound came across really well through my tv.
I have a Samsung galaxy A54 with the same set up with speakers. So I was impressed by how well they came across.
I've never really got into gaming but the games to look awesome.
I can see that the 256gb of storage would filled pretty quickly as I believe Genshin Impact is about 35 gb ( I think I got that from another TH-camr- Tech Spurt). So not having an SD card slot on anything with lower storage could be an issue.
I love music 🎶. So I like to store as much of my music as I can. However, I try to not to use mp3 and go for less compressed files ie lossless. These take up a lot of storage. So again an SD card slot is pretty important to me.
I don't mind there not being a headphone socket fitted as dongles are fine for wired headphones and I can use USB C to 3.5mm jack cable for in the car to use the AUX in on the car stereo.
So for me the camera and the hinge issue are off putting, but not completely.
In a few years with a couple of new versions released things could be better.
I do have one very strange question. Is the screen protected that same soft, squishy feeling as the Samsung foldable? I didn't like the texture personally and I've a few family and friends with autism where texture can be a massive issue.
Again a great video and I do appreciate all the effort you put into doing them. 😂

Yeah, so my z3 flip took a lot of damage, and after I order the replacement screen, the screen was all better like it self healed itself the sides of small defect on the side, which is normal never even got to put in the replacement screen I bought might just buy boards and build Z flip 5 then sorry I’m not really paying attention to the video right now. Still enjoy watching it though.

    • @faeinthebay
      @faeinthebay หลายเดือนก่อน

@@Waldherz My Fold 4 hasn't picked up many scratches. The factory inner screen protector fell off a few months ago (it started bubbling around the crease) and since I have the extended warranty I haven't bothered replacing it. The inner screen picked up one scratch straight down the middle, about 3cm long, and I can see mild rainbow distortion on light backgrounds. As for the crease, it isn't noticeable unless there's direct sunlight behind you so it hasn't bothered me, although you can feel it when doing swipe gestures. And as for the front display, I didn't bother putting on a protector and it has picked up some mild scratches. Not noticeable unless it's hit by direct sunlight.
I got my phone for US$1,000 on discount (a Google Fi promo offer) and it was barely worth the price for me compared to typically spending US$500 on midrange and used phones. But the user experience is definitely better, so if you're like me and spend a lot of time watching videos or doing finances or shopping, the big inner screen could be worth it.

The phone has a rather tiny (~20.5 sq-mm) Samsung ISOCELL JN1 50MP camera sensor, the exact same one I've on my $100 Xiaomi.
Not the best camera sensor available, not by a long shot, but it's definitely larger than the one on the original iPhone X and can take pretty decent shots... so long as you use GCam.
Otherwise, it's more or less hopeless as Chinese smartphones in general have pretty terrible computational photography algorithms baked into their camera apps.

I sense a bit of a bias against folding phones

    • @SMOOREZ
      @SMOOREZ  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I've just seen a lot of them fail. I used a Z Flip in 2020 and loved it but when going to Ewaste, I was scared I'd break the display. I used a Flip 3 but once again felt the same. I ended up using a Fold 2 with a dead inner screen for a bit and that was bulletproof. But I like the concept of folding phones but I just don't think they are that strong given how fragile that oled is. Yeah they've gotten a bit stronger but one little nick to it and it's gone. I'm just being honest here with my experience.

I can't call this a cheap phone, for having a foldable screen I'd call it "affordable". You get what you pay for with it. On the other hand foldable screens don't last as long as I use my phone, ergo the reduced lifespan of the device more than doubles it's cost.
I won't buy one until they have an acceptable lifespan, using it every day shouldn't result in the destruction of the screen.
