Seems like your S23 does the same stupid thing iphones do, ie when you zoom in it tries to focus on the far away sounds (zooming in on the sound source kinda sorta) and makes stuff close to the phone (ie you) sound like ass/ultra noise filtered
it's also known (at least to me) as the funniest game to load up on a machine (bonus points if a handheld console) and give to people who don't know, and see if they can get past the first level. >:3c
Holy shit, that first movie you played (11:37) was my favourite Hong Kong-ish comedy film, Mr. Vampire [殭屍先生] (1985), glad to see someone else like it enough to include it.
12:19 i think that's red alert 2 ,a strategy game which i used to play back in the day . Also the teardown omg 🤣,i'm suprised too that this managed to to go trough the customs . If they scanned it ,they probably would have thought that this is some sort of smuggling 🤣
Desiccant/oxygen absorber bags are very.commonly used in packaging to prevent corrosion and/or spoilage. Surprised you haven't seen them before. In this case they appear to just be used as weights.
@@Knaeckebrotsaege Well, these are the oxygen absorber variety, not dessicant, according to the labeling. The packaging looks normal to me for those. Whether they are real or not, who knows?
Pay closer attention to the microphone jack: for some reason it's a TRRS jack. I don't think they're actually using all four channels with this, for a standard microphone two is enough (so most come with a TS jack). This one with its TRRS jack is probably misaligned when plugged into a PC and/or wired differently.
Really makes you wonder if someone in to retro computers was tasked with designing a product specifically to smuggle drugs with. Maybe all the warranty stickers are there to deter customs from taking it apart? If they sold just the screen by itself in the CRT housing for like half the price, I'd probably buy one. Cool video, don't know why I've never come across this channel before, but subbed now, thanks for the content. I got to the end without time stamps, but I do appreciate that they're there.
"Oxygen absorber" in a little bag probably means iron filings. I've seen that in beef jerky packages, but the packets in beef jerky are much smaller. Try a magnet on it to be sure. Iron should make a good weight, yeah.
This was literally a thing I dreamed to own as a kid. I used to own a toy computer and I hope it'd at least function as a real computer or some block game system but bigger screen so I could play pretend. Sadly it was too late that I would wanna play pretend using a computer as an adult and instead it'd be the nightmare (I WFH so I spend my time mostly in front of the computer...)
that "Tooth thing" is also known as "Syobon Action" in china and japan and "Cat mario" in the west Its an infamously difficult fangame of super mario bros, one of the first mainstream "Rage games" in the market popularizing the genera in the first place I'd def recommend playing through it on a non scuffed platform if you have the nerves for it! The one you played seemed to be a rom hack implementation of it
Honestly if this was £20 gbp just for the little screen, even though it's garbage quality I'd definitely buy one just to sit on top of my home server with just terminal running or maybe system temperatures, usage etc and that'd be cool.
Interesting video. I recon most of the cost went into having the injection moulding made for the retro case. Because only a few will get sold, most of the cost is going into the final product. But still a nice curio
I think they'd get a lot more sales if they sold just the screen for like half the price. I hope they figure that too and we get little retro CRT-looking screens soon.
I think maybe the sandbag in the speaker is keeping it from being more tin cany sounding, but going by everything else, it was probably purely by accident. Lol
wow, someone turned that old PC freeware troll game Syobon Action into an SMB rom hack?! I remember playing it so much back in school, and then later somehow I found a PS Vita hombrew of it too.
I'd be tempted to whack a 720 or 1080 screen in this. The whole thing looks really good for modding and messing about with especially if you have a few different Famiclone devices. You could mix and match🤣🤣
I saw a review recently for something called a "Sanpao Mini Retro TV" on the Retro Handhelds TH-cam channel. It's a lot like this in concept except it's made to look like a 1950s TV instead of a '90s PC and has an Android TV box shoved inside. It's $130 US; but, as far as overpriced desktop novelties go, at least it's one desktop novelty that can actually do stuff. It might be of interest to you. Note: I'm in no way affiliated with anyone involved with it nor do I own one. It's just that this unit reminded me of that one. I enjoyed this video and I'm happy you're back from your break. For what it's worth; if you hadn't told us you were sick during part of the filming I probably wouldn't have noticed anything was amiss. Your voice sounded fine.
Looking forward to unlimited gaming time on this little beauty, hope it has a home button so I can switch it off games and flip the controller when my mum comes in my room. I'll be putting windows 12 on mine!
Some of the gems from the games list: 60 Person Street Bully (and the sequel, 12 Person Street Bully), Kicked the King, Dragon Slaying *Knife*, Space Harry, Cat Party Ninja Biography, Warriors Fight Against Dragons for 6 Generations (and the sequel, Warriors Fight Against Dragons for 8 Generations), Ultimate Killing, Strange Duck Adventure, Ghana Fighter, Hot Blood Basketball, Released from Prison for One Generation (and the sequel, Released from Prison for Two Generations), Squirrel Battle Generation 1 (the sequel is simply Squirrel War 2), Quickly Hit the Whirlwind. Also notice, all the games are KKK, except game no. 96 (Space Order) which is the only one called "Captain KKK". I guess Space Order is the boss of all the other games.
this reminds me back in the 90s i got something like that but the "screen" is a radio speaker, the keyboard did nothing, just plastic slab, and the mouse buttons are for scan and reset (also can't see which fm channel). And yeah Windows 7... brings me back to an era where the air were still fresh.
If it was just a screen or just an SD card video player in that retro CRT format without the peripherals and software bloat for like half the price I'd jump on it real fast. Put on some gameplay videos and old cartoons to endlessly in the background...
I needed a good laugh so I paused at 16:06 and read all the TERRIBLE Chinese-to-English translations. I absolutely lost it when I read "Double Truncation Dragon" and the rest kept me rolling! Thank you! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Because it is a FamiClone with a microphone there is one question overlooked. Does it have FDS Zelda the original Zelda version where you shout in the mic of controller 2 to kill Pols voice enemies. Does the Microphone work with the game?
That tooth thing in that Mario rom hack?? That"s supposed to be a cat. It's a rom hack that adds the cat from Cat Mario, aka one of the hardest flash games ever made.
Probably not a famiclone. The media capabilities are way beyond what a famiclone could do. Probable just some cheap ARM SOC with a NES emulator in the firmware.

They might have wired up that mic janky too. Noticed it's a 3 contact jack. Not the first time I've seen mics use that but perhaps they messed that one up and put the positive connection on the middle pin instead of the end pin and that's why most PCs have issues using it. Another way they might have messed up the wiring is having the ground to the middle pin instead of the bottom one. I think maybe a multimeter might reveal that. I think you could possible fix it assuming the wire was made properly and still has all 3 wires. I think for best results you'd wire the middle and the bottom to ground so they both act as ground instead of just one of them with the tip being the postive. (but honestly they should have just used a mono jack on the thing to avoid this issue. :P ) Makes me wonder why it works on that device but not anywhere else if it was wired up incorrectly. Maybe it works on mono jacks but not on stereo ones. PCs these days tend to have stereo MIC jacks...I think? They tend to be multipurpose jacks actually so likely stereo/3 contacts. Try the mic on something older that has a true mono jack on it. You might find that it works correctly on that.
Oxygen absorbers do not contain sand. They contain iron powder and salt. Assuming they did not get empty oxygen absorber sachets and filled them with something else, which I find unlikely. 28:10 I noticed the "Executive Decision Maker" on your desk. I've got one too! lol Even got the box for it. Got it at Goodwill years ago for a couple dollars. *edit Wait a minute yours is different. It looks like yours has phrases it says while mine just makes 80s computer noises. I just looked it up, mine is called the Executive Stress Eliminator.
When I was moving houses I found it. Turned out it belonged to my Nan. It's RadioShack branded but I'll say - it's decided many dinner choices over the years lol "Should I have pizza" *80s beeping* Lands on "Forget It" FINNNEEEEEEE :(
Idk if anyone said this already but I think what happened with super mario bros Was the game file was corrupted and the game tried to boot 1-1 but just booted the corrupt memory instead. And the level is just a visual representation of what that memory looks like
They could have improved the design by just incorporating the inputs on the back of the "monitor" directly down into the "PC" and just have all the connector on the back of the PC. Seems like their is room for them. Monitor housing seems like there was enough room to incorporate the speaker rather than dangling an external one.
Think most folks would say put a SBC and a better screen in it?...Turn it into a working pc of some sort..Though cost would be hard to justify.(secondhand parts?)...Maybe a "just for the hell of it" fun project.
The mini pc is very cute though it also has some serious issues obviously. The super granny screen and other problems were kinda common with computers and systems of the erra they are trying to mimic.

Yes. Syobon (no) Action, a.k.a. Neko Mario or Cat Mario. But seems some exclusive, this level is not from original PC-version.
It’s a Super Mario Bros ROM hack, changed to be like Syobon Action.
90% of its weight was most likely coming from all those smuggled goodie bags 😂

28:10 I noticed the "Executive Decision Maker" on your desk. I've got one too! lol Even got the box for it. Got it at Goodwill years ago for a couple dollars. *edit Wait a minute yours is different. It looks like yours has phrases it says while mine just makes 80s computer noises. I just looked it up, mine is called the Executive Stress Eliminator.
When I was moving houses I found it. Turned out it belonged to my Nan. It's RadioShack branded but I'll say - it's decided many dinner choices over the years lol
"Should I have pizza"
*80s beeping*
Lands on "Forget It"
FINNNEEEEEEE :(
it's this Mini Retro PC or Ever!!! this Egyptian Shopping an Now this over Dear More!
Those are desiccant bags, to absorb moisture. Strange they cared enough to proof against high humidity...
The Mario game with the "tooth" is called Cat Mario or Syobon Action. It's made to be extremely difficult to play.
GRAND DAD!! FLIENTSTONES?!!! AWWWW!
Note the Cheetahmen soundtrack in the first game.
Format factory is actually really useful and quick. It combines video or audio files, converts formats.
1000 to go you have gone a long way since i first started following you
lmao the fucking cheetamen music at 15:00 had me in stitches
Idk if anyone said this already but I think what happened with super mario bros Was the game file was corrupted and the game tried to boot 1-1 but just booted the corrupt memory instead. And the level is just a visual representation of what that memory looks like
They could have improved the design by just incorporating the inputs on the back of the "monitor" directly down into the "PC" and just have all the connector on the back of the PC. Seems like their is room for them. Monitor housing seems like there was enough room to incorporate the speaker rather than dangling an external one.
This thing was beyond cool
For that price one should expect the finest quality ingredients in the weight bags! :D
Ooh no the CAT Mario 💀💀💀💀 , that game literally traumatized me years ago 😭😭😭😭😭😭
It's got an episode of Wataru 2, Syobon Action and Grand Dad. What more do you need?
Think most folks would say put a SBC and a better screen in it?...Turn it into a working pc of some sort..Though cost would be hard to justify.(secondhand parts?)...Maybe a "just for the hell of it" fun project.
Disappointed. I expected Smoorez to know Cat Mario.
jk great video as always, thank you :)
The mini pc is very cute though it also has some serious issues obviously. The super granny screen and other problems were kinda common with computers and systems of the erra they are trying to mimic.
Exactly - you can't buy a mini retro pc then complain it's not an HD monitor, are you some kind of an idiot lol
Super Granny! 💪🧓
So, a $112 item that is really worth maybe $10-15... Sounds like wish, or iWish....
Welcome back...
