Capesthorne Hall classic car show, August 2022 | Old cars out & about in Cheshire

  • The August 2022 Capesthorne Hall classic car show was a two-day event, day one (which we attended) saw Jaguar cars as the featured marque, while day two would see the products of Mercedes-Benz line up outside the main hall at Capesthorne, situated just off the A34 in Cheshire.
As previous videos show, there's always an interesting mix of cars that turn up at this event, so we headed over and prepared for a long day of walking around, and talking about, the old cars that turned up. We tried to book in but entries had closed by then (the cut-off date hadn't yet passed so presumably it was full up).
Highlights for us this time included the following sightings:
A Puma (ex-Brazil, based on VW Beetle underpinnings)
    American fire truck
    Citroen SM
    FIAT 130 Coupe
    SS Jaguar 1.5 Litre
    MGB GT V8
    Triumph GT6 Mk1 & Mk3
    Humber Hawk
    Ford 100E Squire
    SAAB 9000
    Morris Cowley "bullnose"
    Jensen FF
    Austin Allegro estate
    Ford Consul Mk2 x2
    Triumph Vitesse
    ... and more of course.
The video begins with watching the cars arriving, there are also clips of some autojumble gems that we spotted while ambling around the grounds at Capeshorne Hall, then a walkaround and closer look at many of the cars in attendance. I couldn't feature every car (the video would be twice as long) but I had a good go.
Let me know in the comments which car(s) you'd want to be taking home, and if you were exhibiting, tell us more about your car please.
Don't miss previous show visits that are also on the Old Classic Car channel if you're new here. Thanks for watching.

Just to let you know I live in Darwin, Australia and am an Automotive Diesel Mechanic as an indentured tradesman..... I did my Apprenticeship in a Perkins Workshop we also did Gardners and other British Engines Lister Dorman etc I have been in the trade nearly fifty years and am retired..... my first car was a Wolseley 15/60 Farina although I got my licence in a Morris 1100 and My step father let me drive his Mini1100 van around occasionally...... My fathers first car was a bit of a rarity a Mark V Jaguar Convertible and sadly he had a major accident in it before I was born.... I still however have some of its tools. My younger brother drove a Silver Shadow for a few years, I currently drive a Toyota Avalon Grande ( made in Australia on the Camry Platform) basically the Cressida follow on in Australia and a Mercedes Benz ML 270 and yes I off road it. I still have all my Whitworth tools so I get asked advice and can I borrow this or that or do you have a half inch Whitworth tap, as Australia used Unified threads from the fifties for the Australian built vehicles before they went Metric Whitworth tools are a little bit of a rarity. My Oldest son is a Panel beater and restores old vehicles as part of his job.

I was at that very show and I have to tell you I was like a kid in a sweet shop. Looking at all the cars that I remember seeing but never actually driving. And the Jaguar set-up outside the Hall just made it more meaningful and memorable than I could possibly imagine. The show didn't disappoint and neither did the venue. Both went hand-in-hand and complemented each other. A truly great day out that I will never forget, especially after going to the US Auto Show at Oulton Park the previous day and being able to see American muscle in all its glory.

Another really enjoyable and informative video with some stunning cars on show. As my Dad had a Zodiac Mk3 I enjoyed seeing those. The highlight for me was the Citroen SM, But then again, as I used to run a very tatty MGB GT V8, the Orange one (Bracken?) was probably more in my league.
I agree with you that the Princess should have been a hatchback from the start, the same could be said about the Allegro, BL made some strange decisions….Thanks for posting.

That Fiat 124 coupe was a beauty. They were the first twin cam belt driven production car and the first to have a structural glued in windscreen. I had an 1800 Mreg one in Champagne. One day I stopped very quickly and the windscreen kept going. The flange was like a row of rotten teeth where the water had got between the surround and the glue. What a job it was to weld in new metal. i needed a new screen as I ran over it as it slid off the bonnet. The bottom wishbones rotted too and were replaced by better Lada items. Undersealed with pasta and structural paint the body was terrible if pretty but the mechanics were sublime.

Well this is great stuff., I play whilst doing the evening meal etc. most importantly I have been involved with historic cars all my life as my family is Allard and I am the custodian/collector for the family and Allard club records. Until a month ago though I had never owned a classic car, Allard’s are too expensive for me but we now have given back the new car and gone for a wonderful Morris Traveller. I feel more involved already in the wider classics world and even learning rudemetary mechanics with the Morris. Thank you for such an easy watching video and I do believe even the very occasional Allard. Keep up the videos. Gavin Allard

Hi Gavin, great to have you on board, one of the more recent original b&w photo compilation videos features photos of a prototype Allard with a steel folding roof. Until last year I owned an old Commer race car transporter that used to carry the Allard-based Sphinx sports-racer in the 1960s, so yes Allards have featured on the channel on several occasions and will no doubt do so again! Thanks for watching.

They are certainly egalitarian at these meets: any type of car at any age and none need not be classic or antique. It would seem that a new, basic econobox would qualify. Maybe just an entrance fee is all that's required.

Welllllllll the shows organised by this particular team have a cut-off of about 2007 for individual entries, club stands are allowed a few later cars I believe but they (should) be in the minority. The moderns are fairly easy to skip past though, although I agree that with people paying to enter, they deserve to see just proper old cars and not recent-ish models that turn up in any shopping centre car park. If it was free to enter then it'd be different. IMO.

    Hello,
Has Harley seen the "Fanatik Builds" 1971 Triumph GT6 Mk 3 being restored in Canada? The video series started 8 years ago & charts the progress, so far! Here's a link to Epidode 1 from 4th January 2015. I hope he enjoys the unique rebuild. It's not an easy one.

I expected this to be interesting, but stopped watching because of the incredibly boring and annoying commentary.
