  • Why Fire Style is useless in Naruto. Fire Style is the most used element in the Naruto series. Still, fire does not damage and is useless more often than not in Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. If you compare that to the other elements like Lightning Style and Winds Style, Fire doesn't have a powerful impactful jutsu.
Sasuke, one of the most important character's signature jutsu is fire style, and yet it feel very underpowered. In this video let's analyze why abilities like the fireball jutsu are not very useful in the Naruto series and how they could have been done differently.

In my opinion, Aang using Fire-bending in Avatar was even more effective at showing fire's power than the enemies because it introduced caution. It took "don't play with fire, or you'll get burned" and made it an important part of Aang's fire-bending training.

You’re correct in that it’s generally non-lethal in the anime and manga, but i think that’s as a result of how it’s used. Typically a fireball is thrown out to force the opponent to move. (Sasuke forcing Itachi to jump to the ceiling, Itachi forcing Kakashi to go underground.)

In Naruto, that's right, but fire isn't generally non-lethal in the manga and anime. Of course, this is just my personal experiences, but most action manga and anime I have watched, even some of those that aren't too serious have fire as lethal dangerous. Avatar has the same problem imo. 99% of firebending just pushes people back or knocks them over. Essentially, it's just a more aggressive/concussive form of air bending.
The only time it actually burns people is when the plot demands it for dramatic effect. For example, Zuko getting burned by his father. Or the time when he met an earth kingdom girl who hid her feet because they were burned by firebenders.
In Naruto, roughly a fifth of Ninjas use fire style while in Avatar a 4th of benders could firebend. I think the problem is that fire is too common in both cases. If fire were treated realistically, then too many people would be covered in gruesome burn marks and it would be off-putting.
It works in Full Metal Alchemist because Colonel Mustang is literally the only one who use fire alchemy. Therefore every time he chooses to burn someone, it's a dramatic event. It never gets cheapened by no-name fodder using it.

The problem with fire in anime is that serious injuries from fire tend to cause permanent cosmetic wounds like burn scars. This means making a major design change to a prominent character. Generally publishers want to avoid this to maintain recognizability and familiarity for popular characters, this is also why shows with sword and blade combat don't often have characters lose limbs or if it does happen it's temporary.

Part of me suspects that the reason fire is treated this way is mostly to do with out of universe circumstances. That is to say for fire to be applied "realistically" it would necessitate continual changes to character designs to incorporate the damage e.g. burns and clothing. That would be an unwanted pressure even if the damage was repaired between fights so we end up with fire either doing nothing or killing outright with nothing in between.

Most just spew it! No one makes any fire chains to bind someone like Avdol. No one beats up their sword or palm to do an erupting burning finger. No one uses it to make some sort of shield or convert it into plasma to create a plasma sword I would have Taken that! Just something that wasn’t Amaterasu!
But no it’s all the same. Big fire ball or dragon pew pew pew!
I think kishimoto wrote himself into a corner when fire style is limited by being produced only in your stomach. Explosion release is external creation and can be controlled, scorch release is just a step above Fire release bur below Blaze release, and steam release gives jet propulsion, something that Ace from One Piece can do with his Fire release, and lava style is just more useful entirely.

I think fire jutsu's main weakness is its tactical limitations.
Think of a tactical fight like Shikamaru vs Tayuya. If Tayuya was a fire jutsu user instead of wind, the fight would have looked different.
If Tayuya burned the forrest to make a forrest fire, she would have placed BOTH shikamaru and herself at a worse tactical position.
Unlike other elements like water, fire's main value comes with its destructive nature.
During the early days of Naruto it took a very powerful water jutsu to produce water out of nothing. This meant being able to produce water and change the environment made for huge tactical powerswings. You not only make your weaker water jutsus easier to use, you also allow for lightning jutsus to be easier to land.
Lightning justu can take advantage of other elements like combos with water, cutting through earth, and bolstering weapons.
Earth jutsu also had the ability to change terrain, provide cover and so forth.
Wind and fire both focus on destructive power but unlike wind which can be used to bolster weapons, strengthen other jutsus like pressurizing water or fanning flames, Fire can only produce more fire.
Fire jutsus boil down to "imma burn everything in this particular direction" and that doesn't give you anything to work off of. Couple that with the fact that other elements like earth or water can counter by blocking the fire jutsu themselves and you get a very one-dimentional style.
One might say fire jutsu is so niche that it's a surprise it hasn't died.

Nah, the ninja turtles use their swords pretty often. Literally cutting people up and decapitating/beheading people (Leo in TMNT 2012 literally killed and/or beheaded The Shredder) and/or etc.
Also, only Leo uses swords and he uses them all the time (to the point where in TMNT 2012 and Rise he would slash stuff and/or characters when startled and/or surprised. And across most versions beheaded and slashing characters and/or things up were some of his go to moves), the others use different main weapons. And then they are weapons they all know how to use to varying extents and/or side weapons.
In the Mirage comics (the OG comics); they were literally assassins, and Leo (and probably Donnie too) had some of the bigger kill counts in that.
In IDW; Leo has literally slashed a mutant's wings off and a bunch of other stuff.
In 1987; Leo was actually pretty stab/slash-happy, to the point when Leo was cutting April free, the brothers were worried he was doing something more deadly than that. Lol. To be fair though, Leos are both incredibly protective and kind, but can also be very stabby and/or murder-y.
I already gave u some examples for TMNT 2012 and Rise (and Leo did in Rise also did pretty awesome stuff with both his swords and powers in the show and movie).
TMNT 2003 Leo did great stuff with his sword too; like against their Shredder(s).
      Etc., etc.
Anyways, this is a pretty bad comparison imo; swords do stuff all the time in TMNT. And again; only one of the turtles uses swords; the others have different weapons so ofc u wouldn't see them use it?
Fire can defin. do stuff too (like it should); just maybe not in Naruto and some other series.

I think the issue about fire style is that they never really embrace the nature of fire that can last for a while after the jutsu is first casted. Like using fire to slowly trap an enemy in a circle of fire. This could be pretty useful in the early part of the series where a fire style could actually do damage as opposed to near the end where every major character be it the main characters or the villains could tank basically anything but senjutsu. This is the most simple use of fire style I could think of. There's definitely more creative ways you could use fire style

Fire in Naruto has always worked as a support ability. Sasuke using fire to heat up the atmosphere for kirin, Itachi using the heat from amaterasu (which lets be honest, is just an evolved haxed version of fire) to prevent Kabuto’s environmental jutsu from working, and hell even Madara by using fire release on his wood release to create a large combustion so that the pollen would have spread much faster.
I think fire doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to in anime in general is because of how devastating it actually is. It would mess with certain plots and create lots of issues. • @Acecard-jl2py
      @Acecard-jl2py ปีที่แล้ว +1

Lightning has always been the best element in many series.
      It’s faster
      Has more versatility
      Can control metal
Anyone getting hurt can be paralyzed or stunned
      Create light and blind opponents
Speed up your metabolism to heal yourself(somehow)
      Hacking abilities
Produce elective fields to block plasma
And perhaps the most bullshit power: resetting your heart. Even if you die you can prepare your revival to catch your opponent off guard.
Death touch by shocking your opponent to death is another versatile ability.
Like fire abilities, electric abilities should also grant the user to create a concentrated plasma blade.
Now the funny thing is, controlling electricity this way is not how electricity works. Fiction has done this over and over with the magical properties of electricity. Our entire body is controlled by it, and if your opponent can take advantage of your nervous system then it’s game over.
The only way of dealing with electricity is to ground yourself or highly insulate yourself. So someone who is made of of earth non metallic materials is a great counter for electricity. But kishimoto thought he was clever when he made lightning effective against earth.

Fire style suffers the Worf effect. It is naturally scary and raises tension, but if the author actually let's a character be severely burned by fire that character is more or less out of the fight immediately. • @motivationallizard6644
    @motivationallizard6644 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I think fire style was limited early on due to it pretty much being exclusively used as fireballs or fire breath. All the other elements like Wind, Lightning, Water, and Earth can be used from already existing stuff like the wind around you or the earth below you, but literally every fire jutsu we see is just fire breath with extra steps. Other manga like Bleach and Demon Slayer have pretty dynamic uses of fire with characters like Yamamoto and Yoriichi being incredibly op because of how dynamic they can use it.
Comparatively naruto is literally just spamming fireballs over and over, there’s no real variety to the ability outside of guys like Madara, Obito, and Jiraiya occasionally adding their own spin on it. If the ability was more dynamic, like being able to fire bend in Avatar, or being able coat a weapon in fire like in Bleach you could add variety and versatility to the ability instead of spamming one attack.
One thing that bothered me in particular was that clans like the Sarutobi and Uchiha were supposedly fire style masters, but were in reality just the same as normal ninja by spamming fireballs. Imagine of in Hiruzen’s fight against orochimaru he pulled a Yamamoto and covered the battlefield in fire and used his staff as a flaming weapon, or, someone like madara using their fan to control and bend massive flames into their enemies. There’s so much versatility, so just limiting the attacks to fireballs and occasionally giving cool abilities to exclusive Kekkai Genkai kinda takes away from the ability.

The funny thing is that in Avatar, we almost never see someone get directly struck or burnt by firebending on-screen. However, firebending manages to remain relatively intimidating because first, like you said, it's the main weapon of the main antagonists. And second because even if the fire attacks don't hit the enemy, they often force several named characters to go on the defensive.
Rock walls get exploded, water and ice barriers get melted or evaporated through, and the wielders of all other elements have to spend so much energy just NOT getting hit by the flames that they get less chances to strike back.
The mere that Zuko has a massive burn scar on his face serves as a reminder that yes, people do get burnt and permanently scarred by fire. And the few times main characters get directly hit by it are momentous. Iron getting blasted in the chest by Azula, Aang accidentally burning Katara's hands, and Azula literally killing Aang with a shot in the back. That was technically lightning, but it falls under the same element umbrella in that universe, and is pure destruction just like normal fire.
There's a way to do this that doesn't require people getting vaporized left and right, but Kishimoto just didn't nail it.

Fire was originally sasukes main ability, but then they had to give him the chidori because they realized how useless his fire would have to be in the future in order to have a good story. 💀💀. Still I think sasuke uses fire more than lightning if I’m being honest but it almost always misses. Such as a shame cuz dragon flame jutsu is one of the coolest jutsu of all time, same with Amaterasu.

  • @TheChiog
    @TheChiog ปีที่แล้ว +1

I guess Kishimoto's problem could be summarized as fire being too dangerous. A water dragon, a boulder or a wind bullet? You can have a character get hit by that and they get knocked back/down. Explain the missing broken bones with chakra reinforcement. Fire doesn't do that. Fire has no force, it just burns. You can't have a character get hit by fire without them taking at least some visible damage from it. So every fire style that is not supposed to be a deciding factor can't be allowed to hit at all.
I'm not saying that it couldn't have been handled better, I just think that was the reason.

Honestly my experience with the chackra natures are:
Lightning: Literally the most powerfull one and the most versatile one. Chidori.
Water: Next to nobody uses it. Tbh this is the biggest neglect of the chackra natures imo bcs its either: Big squirt and maybe a dragon or a shark.
Earth: Big chonkus defends. Big walls. Defense. Did i mentioned defense already?
Air: Rasen Shuriken. That's it. Also very sharp, but then again so is Lightning.
    Fire: this video.

A fireball that doesn't explode or last long isn't doing much if a person isn't remaining in it long term, or be doused in something readily flammable. Look at that MythBusters episode on flash cooking shrimp, the shrimp could even flying through a forge fire and still wasn't cooked, time is a very important part to burn damage, until you ramp up the temperature a lot, especially when your dealing with a medium that will rapidly disperse the heat like air.
Also their clearly using low temperature flames, since their red/yellow/orange, instead of violet, blue, and white.
Then lets face it the 3 first things you'd try and make a shinobi uniform resistant to are fire and slashing/stabbing, with water resistance a 3rd, but more so you don't get bogged down by rain.

It would have been cool if the chakra system actually was utilized like pokemon stats since it resembles that whole One element counters the other, etc. Also, personal opinion, if every ninja could just use basic techniques with every chakra nature but not the more advanced techniques because it's not their nature, then that could have made the utility of fire jutsu and other elemental jutsus more prominent, kind of like using fire jutsu to start campfires, smoke cigarettes, make markings, make smoke, etc. The only exceptions are wood, ice, the special ones. Those would be able to utilize the two chakra natures that are connected to their jutsu style. But understandably, it is easier to keep track of what characters can do when their powers are more limited. Still, as Dygo said, it would have been better if someone got affected by a fire style jutsu more than simply tanking it or having not a single singe.

Fire style jobs because it's too dangerous and strong. If you get properly hit with it at all, it's effects are permanently debilitating to deadly. Especially amaterasu. So it's not gonna do much to main characters.
It's the same reason why wolverine jobs. Those claws can only do permanent lethal damage. So 9/10 he's gonna get ko'ed by a punch so the story and characters can move on uninhibited
