Great news 🙂, my Male hasn't eaten in two weeks, I'm guessing I've been feeding him too much this past 6 months everyday. Maybe they just know when to say when ??
This is so helpful I can’t even describe it. When I searched online about why my female leopard gecko is not eating, it’s very vague and doesn’t give any information about how long it might last or how to know if that’s the case. Based on your description, my gecko is definitely ovulating. She’s super active nowadays, walking around during the day, spinning in her hide, etc,.. she hasn’t eaten for a month but she has only lost a few grams. I will definitely try to see if I can spot any egg in her belly. Again thanks a lot for this video!
jessica thank you for your help. unfortunately the gecko dropped his/her tail. we replaced the repto carpet with paper towling and as instructed put some neosporin on the stumpy part. i read off your comment to my huney that way he knew what we could do to get it to eat. we are making adjustments keeping food in its food dish. we asked petco what they normally feed the geckos that we bought from. meal worms. that was good to know. we have 4 hiding spots and a man made hide that we spray down. we have another gecko slightly older i think from same shop petco and he adjusted just fine. that one is thriving very nicely. i hope that tupac( the one that isnt eating) eats soon. we are worried.
@@JessicasAnimalFriends i was going to reply back sooner but i got really busy with teaching. I wanted to share with you an update on our progress. So my huney suringe fed tupac with what i call sludge. nutritious bugs grounded in slurry. it helped the first day it only took in half the dosage the next few days it gradually started taking it in, so now its off the sludge. she is now back on mealworms and today she is now eating 4 mealworms. Her tail that she dropped is healing. we kept up with neosporine and it's looking good.
What is difficult for me is I got my gecko when he was about 7-8 months old. But, sense the beginning he wasn't offered food. They put it in a bowl and he'd eat when he was hungry. And I use to be able to see him eat at certain times of the day or night. Now I never see it. And I've tried to offer with just me holding the mealworm or using the tongs or as I call them giant tweezers 😂 but he never eats if I offer. So I just put it in his bowl but I'm worried he isn't eating because he always has mealworms in his bowl that end up dried and dead or hatching into the larva things. And he's extremely picky because he won't eat dead crickets or mealworms. (Which I don't know many geckos that would eat them dead haha) anyways but I'm worried cuz he looks slimmer near the tummy area and his tail is alittle thinner but nothing dangerous. It looks normal just I can tell cuz I've had him like I said Sense he was about 7-8 months old and he's gonna be turning two years old in a few months. Yet, he's a male... so I'm very confused on if he is sick or I'm just paranoid or if I miss sexed him. ((Even though I was told that he's a male))😳
ive watched so many of your videos that i finally subbed.. you are my fav gecko info channel on youtube. I just got a male leo 4 days ago.. Now she's an adult and she has been only eating 1 worm (wax or mealworm). Im not sure if that's good but she only likes to eat rhem in a certain state.. other than that i was curious if silk worms are possibly good for geckos? I wanna give her a variety to be healthy.
we got this hatch ling gecko about 2 weeks ago, he/she wont eat. we tried meal worms, crickets. nothing nada zero ziltch. we tried adjusting the temp, so far we are down to that option. any suggestions?
don't mess with the enclosure or the temperature if the husbandry is correct. in the video I state that geckos can take a few weeks to settle in. don't handle your gecko or mess with it's enclosure during this time. also, try leaving food in a bowl in the enclosure 24/7 until there's a set feeding schedule

I just recently got a three month old Leo and she is not eating for me every day like I would like her to.. I'm almost sure she just needs to adjust to her new enclosure but I keep offering her food every day just in case she will take it.. crossing my fingers that she will start eating regularly soon
Jessicas Animal Friends she is eating about every second day for me and I haven't even had her for a week yet so I'm hoping her appetite will come back once she settles in! She is so little so it just stresses me out that her appetite is gone right now
Thank you I just got a juvenile leopard gecko she ate once but I fed her 3 large crickets I now know what to feed her and still hasn’t eaten for a few days please tell me why but this video gave me a better understanding
I love all the knowledge you have about leopard geckos! We bought 2 from a pet store a cpl months ago. Recently, one of them past away. I was crushed. I was told about ur channel and have learned a lot! I got rid of the crushed walnut that the pet store told us to use and now use cabinet liner. We were feeding them crickets and wax worms and are now offering meal worms, but with no luck. Our gecko has not eatin since the changes to her habitat and losing her friend. Do you have any suggestions on how to get her to eat again?
This isn’t rlly related but it kinda is. Winter is coming up and I’m doing an excavator clay build. How do I keep her warm? I want to make a burrow over the heat pad and maybe put a tile in there or something to lift her from glass. What should I raise the temperature to? I also think I may need a ceramic heat emitters for my beardie at night... so basically, how should I form the burrow to allow her to heat up properly and to let the heat pass through the clay. Second, do you think during winter I’ll need the ceramic heat emitter?
I am not entirely sure about the burrow. As long as your gecko has direct access to heat at 89-90 degrees Fahrenheit, it should be fine. so if you have to make the burrow end at the bottom on direct glass where the heater is, that would be best. just keep in mind geckos like to move on and off the heat, so be sure there is a hide in the 70s as well. Our house drops into the high 60s at night downstairs and we do not keep additional heat for them. I've done this with franklin for four years without any issue.
Idk if any of these help my case. Please do get in touch with me. I took in a gecko from my friend who didn't really know what they were doing and he had some bites from beetles on him and 2 layers of stuck shed. I got the shed off and his bites are healing but he's not eating and he's super skinny. Thanks
Do you know how long they can go without eating? I noticed you mentioned 2 months, is there a certain amount of time where I should start being concerned?
HI guys I just got my leopard to eat again once again but she has not had any feces. She looks healthy but opens her mouth a little during the night and morning when it is cold. I do not believe it is uri because she has only one symptom. Her heat is correct is this common or serious.
My female leopard gecko has stopped eating in early may! It’s now the end of may and she still not eating, I’m assuming it’s due to her ovulation? Thank you cuz I was sooo scared 🙏🏼
My Leo has been sitting in her humid/ cold hide for the past week and hasn’t eaten due to this. Because of not eating she lost 3 grams in the span of a week. Are there any methods I should try to get her to eat I have already tried tong feeding, free feeding, lipstick method, different insects.
Mine is 16 months old, she stopped eating over a month. I have tried everything to encourage her to eat, but did not happen. She poops around every 3 days and acts okay. She shedded her skin last night and ate all her skin without any problems. Any suggestions?
Is it normal for a 2 yr old gecko to not eat for months? She's not eating her superworm that i left in her bowl. I think she isn't eating for 1-2 months now?
@@JessicasAnimalFriends hiii its kinda hard for me to tell if she's ovulating or not, but I sent u pics on insta a few mins ago. I actually messaged u yesterday, u can check it out whenever u're not busy😅❤️
I rescued a leopard gecko from someone who had her in a 10 gallon tank, the tank was smelly and disgusting, beatles and meal worms everywhere. She is now in a bigger and clean enclosure and I've had her for 5 days now. She has only eaten 5 mealworms since I got her and she has turned down a hornworm, super worm, and wax worm. I've even dusted the worms with repashy calcium plus. I'm worried about her and dont know what to do. Can anyone give me advice?
I just watched this video because ive been having issues with my geckos for a few months now - all of my 3 geckos have stopped eating and theyre completely not interested in food which honestly is okay for 2 of my geckos because theyre pretty thick and dont have any issues with weight all however the other gecko was always a bit smaller then the other 2 but still had healthy weight for her size. Now that it's winter theyre all refusing food but in the last week and a half the small gecko lost A LOT of weight and she's light as a feather. I have just now found out about gecko ovulation and I can see clear signs of ovulation on the two bigger geckos bellys but no signs of ovulation on the small one - which I'm convinced is because her belly is so small you cant even see it. Im getting really worried and not sure what to do. for the last 2 days I have fed her the insides of the worms she eats which has been succesful but with not much interest from her side. I'm really unsure what to do and I have no vets that know anything ab exotic animals like geckos near me. She also somehow injured her leg (i have no idea how she has nothing in her enclosure that could have made that possible, but it doesnt seem like its bothering her much as shes still moving and is not showing any signs of pain. I would appreciate any kind of advice.
Mine is a baby and she won’t eat witch we can’t get tiny crickets so I try feeding meal worms and she won’t eat so I brought a heater to my cold room and see wat happens
March and my baby still isnt eating, hasn't eaten in almost 3 weeks and I think my gecko is around 2 months old idk if it has anything to do with that but i dont think the gecko has lost any weight and if it has not a lot at all
My adult female gecko hasn’t eaten in a week and I’m really scared. A vet consulted me to soak her in warm water with a bit of pedialyte and giving her a massage. I’ve only been doing that for two days.I do live in city and its cold during this time and she still is her regular size so it could be brumating. I’ll try to update as soon as something happens
Jessicas Animal Friends so here’s my update: I do think it is brumation because I like in Philly and it’s cold here but she did eat for 4 days straight and I even switched to smaller meal worms. And she liked it but now she’s not eating again and something weird is she’s sleeping in weird places in her tank. For example she curls herself up and sleeps in her big rock cave during the day. Something when I wake up at six she’ll sleep on her rock or hammock but goes back for the day but For two days now she’s been sleeping up against the glass corners of the tank and in her water dish. She looks relaxed and she looks about the same size but I’m still worried.
@@JessicasAnimalFriends My baby gecko That I just got 3 days ago only ate the 1rst day and one cricket yesterday. It is worrying me that she isn't eating enough. Can you give me some tips to encourage him to eat?
Last week my leopard gecko was eating amazing but this week she has not ate. I do not believe she is ovulating though because I don’t see eggs and she was not bred this year is this normal. She also sits in the open during the night for some reason
My gecko hasnt eaten in a week now. She's two years old and was always ready for food but now she's refusing to eat since last friday. Her temperatures are alright, the room temperature is always around 25° so she never really experianced the winter and i dont think its brumation (??). She hasnt been eating, but is pooping and is active, she also diggs sometimes. I dont know how to encourage her to eat and dont want to force her to eat. Should i let her go and offer her food every day until she starts eating? Should i buy her something else to eat? Please help.
Hi Jess, I'm Daniel from Mexico City. When there is no apparent reason for inappetency do you recommend forced feeding? Have you ever tried it? What is the right way?
i got my leopard gecko from another home about 3-4 weeks ago and he hasn’t eaten at all. i’m feeding him the same food he was eating in his other home, but is this too long of a period of time to sum up to just being in a new environment?
You will be surprised how stubborn they can be,I changed one off my geckos homes/setups and he didn’t eat for 6 week because he was sulking lol but currently right now 3 off mine are in brumation pretty hard and I’ve noted they seem to be doing this every year from January to March here in the uk where as my other 2 seem to only do the not eating gag for a couple off week.i learnt a long time ago the best way to monitor there health is by weighing them once a month and keep an eye out for any drastic changes and for juveniles a steady weight gain.
for my female leopard gecko, brumation and ovulation overlapped and she didn't eat from November to June 😰 she's finally eating again but she had me so worried! (she stayed at a healthy weight the whole time though!)
My leopard is kinda skinny it won't eat and I would sit for so long and maybe up to an hour to the point where I cried to help it eat and it would reject it and sleep but ill try to do these tips tomorrow morning 😊
Hopefully you still answer recent comments but I have a leopard gecko she hasn’t ate for about a good month. She has a fat tail still but just wont eat. I used to feed her mealworms but was told those are mostly just to fatten her up so i bought dubia roaches yet she still won’t eat it. The most she does with her food if she sees it is look at it and lick it nothing else
a little update she wasn’t eating but was pooping? could it have been she was constipated? Also I fed her 1 hornworm today to see if she would eat it, she did but the dubia roaches and mealies i offer her aren’t enough. She seems pretty picky and often doesn’t see her food or avoids it unless it’s continuously moving and the dubia roaches don’t do that if they find a specific spot to stay in
Yoshi my Leopard gecko is healthy! It was parasites but it was the healthy kind so I worried for nothing! But I learned my baby is a girl And very healthy! Great new video btw!
here's the reasons, 1 brumation 2 ovulation 3 redecorating or moving 4 picky or offering just one food 5 offering food too often or too little food 6 illness's
My gecko is not really skinny, she poops all the time, drinks water. And is always Active just fine. But never wants to eat, she hasn’t eaten in almost 2 months
Yes improper temperature would fall under the category of husbandry! Like I said if husbandry is correct then reasons like brumation ovulation pickiness etc might be the cause. Glad to hear your little one is eating well!
I did all of the proper research for husbandry, but kept coming across two very different temperature ranges both repeated as frequently as the other. Many said 85-90 (no higher or it is dangerous), and many others said 90 to 94 (no higher or it is dangerous). I started with the lower one, because most reptiles can handle slightly lower temps better than higher temps. But after a month and a half with no change in appetite, and talking with the breeder, I upped the thermostat.
Thansk a Lot for sharing your experiences. Im here because my little boy ITS looking great; but he's on 12 days without eat.. and even when he's looking great my mom still not understading that he wont eat everydsy and moment as the cat does kkkkkkkkkkk

I just recently got a three month old Leo and she is not eating for me every day like I would like her to.. I'm almost sure she just needs to adjust to her new enclosure but I keep offering her food every day just in case she will take it.. crossing my fingers that she will start eating regularly soon
How often is she eating
Jessicas Animal Friends she is eating about every second day for me and I haven't even had her for a week yet so I'm hoping her appetite will come back once she settles in! She is so little so it just stresses me out that her appetite is gone right now
Update: she's settled in and eating now
Thank you I just got a juvenile leopard gecko she ate once but I fed her 3 large crickets I now know what to feed her and still hasn’t eaten for a few days please tell me why but this video gave me a better understanding
Depends if it's an adult my adult is way over weight and I dont feed it anymore and I probably wont for another couple weeks
I would like to know aswell
Is your gecko ovulating
@@JessicasAnimalFriends hiii its kinda hard for me to tell if she's ovulating or not, but I sent u pics on insta a few mins ago. I actually messaged u yesterday, u can check it out whenever u're not busy😅❤️
My gecko won't eat 😭
I rescued a leopard gecko from someone who had her in a 10 gallon tank, the tank was smelly and disgusting, beatles and meal worms everywhere. She is now in a bigger and clean enclosure and I've had her for 5 days now. She has only eaten 5 mealworms since I got her and she has turned down a hornworm, super worm, and wax worm. I've even dusted the worms with repashy calcium plus. I'm worried about her and dont know what to do. Can anyone give me advice?
Mine hasn’t eaten in 6 days and it’s august
What do you think is wrong?
Is that ok?
Same
I really liked this thx for the tips
Sure thing :)
:)
March and my baby still isnt eating, hasn't eaten in almost 3 weeks and I think my gecko is around 2 months old idk if it has anything to do with that but i dont think the gecko has lost any weight and if it has not a lot at all
How often should you weigh your gecko cuz I weigh mine every other week
I think once a month is fine!
Awesome video!! I'll be sure to keep all this in mind when my leo stops eating haha
Thanks! It will happen eventually unfortunately lol
It could definitely be brumation. have the temperatures in the room gone down? could also be from the polar vortex if you were affected by that.
Watch my video about ovulation and egg laying. I also have an updated video about why your gecko might not be eating so be sure to check that out
My gecko hasnt eaten in a week now.
You should be fine it's only a week
Hi Jess, I'm Daniel from Mexico City. When there is no apparent reason for inappetency do you recommend forced feeding? Have you ever tried it? What is the right way?
I would only force feed under the guidance of a vet. I do not think it’s necessary unless the animal is very ill.
i got my leopard gecko from another home about 3-4 weeks ago and he hasn’t eaten at all. i’m feeding him the same food he was eating in his other home, but is this too long of a period of time to sum up to just being in a new environment?
Omg she went right through brumation and ovulation how wild!
wtf how did she survive?
My leopard is kinda skinny it won't eat and I would sit for so long and maybe up to an hour to the point where I cried to help it eat and it would reject it and sleep but ill try to do these tips tomorrow morning 😊
let me know if they worked!
love all the GOT names
Thanks :)
I JUST PURCHASED MY NEW FANCY LEOPARD GECKO
My leopard gecko hasn’t eaten for about 6 months but she isn’t getting any thinner. Should I be worried?
6 months is a really long time. Have you consulted Your vet?
Hopefully you still answer recent comments but I have a leopard gecko she hasn’t ate for about a good month. She has a fat tail still but just wont eat. I used to feed her mealworms but was told those are mostly just to fatten her up so i bought dubia roaches yet she still won’t eat it. The most she does with her food if she sees it is look at it and lick it nothing else
Is she ovulating?
no
a little update she wasn’t eating but was pooping? could it have been she was constipated? Also I fed her 1 hornworm today to see if she would eat it, she did but the dubia roaches and mealies i offer her aren’t enough. She seems pretty picky and often doesn’t see her food or avoids it unless it’s continuously moving and the dubia roaches don’t do that if they find a specific spot to stay in
How long is too long for a Male leopard gecko to stop eating ? My male hasn't eaten in 2 weeks now..😢
I would consult a vet.
Yoshi my Leopard gecko is healthy! It was parasites but it was the healthy kind so I worried for nothing! But I learned my baby is a girl And very healthy! Great new video btw!
Oh my goodness what a positive update! Glad to hear!
here's the reasons,
1 brumation
2 ovulation
3 redecorating or moving
4 picky or offering just one food
5 offering food too often or too little food
6 illness's
Second! Amazing videos! Thank you!
Thanks so much!
What age do they start ovallating
Usually they won’t ovulate til after a year old but it’s possible they can ovulate their first spring if they’re over 40 grams
My gecko is not really skinny, she poops all the time, drinks water. And is always Active just fine. But never wants to eat, she hasn’t eaten in almost 2 months
Could she be ovulating?
How can she be pooping if she hasn't eaten anything in 2 months????
And improper temperature! My girl wouldn't eat, I raised her temperature by four degrees, and now she is an eating machine. lol
@@lydiaeddins2083 well did that work.
@@j.t.3378 Yes, it did.
@@lydiaeddins2083 what's the temperature reading now?
0:00-0:10 is literally me, good video ^.^
It’s a struggle lol thank you!!
Thansk a Lot for sharing your experiences. Im here because my little boy ITS looking great; but he's on 12 days without eat.. and even when he's looking great my mom still not understading that he wont eat everydsy and moment as the cat does kkkkkkkkkkk
Could just be brumation, it’s that time of year
My leaped gecko laid eggs and they hatched.
omg girl I live in IN too!
My geckos name is Visenya i thought i was the only one use got names 😃
Yeah if I only could get some hornworms here that would be fab
I agree 100%
Hey, this is gonna sound weird, but like the gecko shown on the thumbnail literally looks exactly like mine I know I’m not saying you stole mine. Absolutely not they might be twins. Yippee.
