@@badbooks476 Well it was simply badged as a 16v. The pre facelift coupe had a 1.6 8v (K7M) a 2.0 8v (F3R) and 2.0 16v (F7R) which was also used in the Clio Williams and Renault Sport Spider. The facelift cars had an entirely different range of 16v engines but the F7R has become the stuff of legend amongst Renault enthusiast.
Great video, good to actually see one of these rarities. It’s incredible how the character of the Coupe been changed with the addition of an engine upgrade and performance brakes and suspension. Outwardly, to the uninitiated like myself, the car looks little different to yours apart from the colour obviously. Given that most of have become track cars or donor cars, I wonder how many actually left on the road?
Thank you. Yes I too was surprised by how different the two cars feel. As it happens I've seen one come up for sale today but as is often the case it's been heavily modified for track use and would be uneconomical to restore.
thanks for the drive along and the review. the f7r is imo the best 4cyl built by renault, the k20 of renault if you will. If you want torque you definitely need to drive the f5r (IDE) in the ph2. nice low range torque and quite zippy.
I actually had a drive in the IDE powered ph2 but that will be over 20 years ago and it did have plenty of torque mid range. The F7R really does reward you for driving it hard. I was going over the Buttertubs Pass in my 1.5e k7M and it really got me thinking about how the F7R is so much fun with its stuffer suspension amd of course that marvellous engine but could perhaps become tiresome under certain conditions such as poor road surfaces or long stretches of single track with blind bends where you just cant see far enough ahead to make the best of all that performance. I think Renault definitely tamed the beast a little with the phase 2 with its IDE engine but once you've driven an F7R you never forget.
The phase 1 coupe is pretty rare in the UK now and a good, original F7R even more so having only been on sale for three years before the facelift. I see that some parts of the world such as Argentina, Turkey and Poland seem to still have a big following for these cars so maybe they are easier to find in certain markets.
yes Mark but the main problem is the rust, it must be a rust free car. Phase 1 is prettier (in my opinion) and more rare, i ve found some models in Spain, Greece, France andi generaly stay away from the German market, i ve seen 2 there but had big rust problems@@markonmotoring

My dad had one of the first 1.6 versions in the country back in 96 and it made a lasting impression.

i have a Clio 200 CUP from 2010 but i was looking to grab one of these too, the F7R :) Cheers from Romania! :)
