    In this video, I am going to explain the typical and optimal order for your pedals on your ambient guitar pedalboard.
    In fact, you only need 3 specific pedals to get started, and we’ll see in which order to place them.
    Then, I’ll show you my own pedalboard and explain the logic behind each pedal’s placement.
    We’ll cover: tuner, compressor, pitch-shifting, gain, volume pedal, modulation, delay, reverb and looper pedal placement with some sound examples.
    If you still have any questions about the placement or configuration of your pedalboard, don’t hesitate to use the comment section below!

    The part about gain effects (and in general) being sequenced in order of minimal to greater effects was a nice refresher. The only bummer about myself using VST effects is that my only option is to have the volume pedal before everything else, including the compressor. It still does its job (and I don’t use gain effects often either) but I have generally seen the volume pedal in a position like on your board.

    Hi Antoine! I really enjoy your videos because of the amount of detail you have about everything guitar, especially because I’ve only just begun playing guitar in general! You stand out to me from other creators as I share most of my musical interest with you specifically. You inspired me to pick up the guitar and do melodic ambient styles of music just like you. For that, I thank you plenty. I see that you take requests to analyse musicians and their music, is there any chance you could take a look at Cigarettes After Sex? They’re my favourite band at the moment and make some really great post rock ambient style sad music especially Crush, Cry and Apocalypse. If you think they’re worth to analyse for a video that’d be awesome! Cheers from the UK!

    Je trouve q'une pédale de volume peut être souvent remplacée par une "slow attack / slow gear". Quelles sont tes vues sur l'utilisation d'une 'slow attack' dans la musique Ambiante? Merci à toi pour tout ton travail. I fond that a volume expression pedal can often be replaced by a 'slow attack / slow gear' effect. What are your views on using a 'slow gear' pedal in Ambient? Thank you Antoine

    Strangely I prefer the reverb first and delay second.
    There are some patches (yeah, I use multieffect pedal) where I find modulation sounding nice on the end of the chain.

  • @ggrunau

    Newbie here...where in the chain would the AMP simulator (IR-200) go. I assume at the end after the looper but maybe not. I am going into my Focusrite 8i6 from the Boss IR-200 not using an actual amp or speaker cab.

    Okay so if I'm building my pedal board.. I'm going to go for (in order):
    1. Tuner
    2. Compressor
    3. Overdrive
    4. Volume
    5. Delay
    6. Reverb
    7. Looper
    That's a lot of money. 😅

    • @iamnoone4046
      @iamnoone4046 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is, it’s a process. And costs money. Good luck, find what works for you. Lots of research and trial and error.

    Thanks for another video. So, where would you put an overdrive/dist pedal? Right BEFORE volume?

    • @Mr_A_Mia
      @Mr_A_Mia 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically, rght after volume, before your time based.

    I see you added the compressor back on your board ? :)
    Mandatory for me since you can use it in so many different ways, effect, sustain, ... and compressor. Even if you have a very even way of playing, in some cases you really need one imo.

    Super Video...but could anybody explain the stereo wiring for the bigger setup of the Video? Is there any stereo connection between the volume pedal to the strymon ola at all? Thx....

    • @karabinerstudios
      @karabinerstudios 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you go look at the manual for the Mission Engineering pedal, you will see that it is mono in and out. The manual for the El Capistan shows a mono input with stereo outs. The Ola has stereo ins and outs, but looking at the video and the Ola manual, you can tell that Antoine is only using left in and out. So, the signal is all mono until it leaves the El Cap via stereo outs.

    Why put modulation after the volume pedal? I'm not saying it should be the opposite, just wondering about your reasoning there.

    Antoine, what pedalboard is that? Novo 24? also where would you put an EH Ravish Sitar pedal? more to the front of the line?

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar
      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a Pedaltrain pro (legacy model). And yes, I would put the Ravish Sitar early in the chain, about where the octaver is.

  • @ncomeau
    @ncomeau 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does it matter if all the "wet" effects go in an effects loop? will the Volume pedal still work as shown in the vid? Or to pull this off, does everything has to be in the chain going to the front go the amp? Cheers!

  • @arye_amsalem

    Hi, how do you know if a pedal is stereo or mono?

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar
      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's stereo if it has 2 ouputs on it. If it only has one output, it is mono by default.

    Hi there Antoine, I have a tremolo (Flint) Where would you put it the chain?

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar

      Last, because the Flint also has reverb and has been designed to be last in the chain. The only thing I would put after it is a looper.
