  • Just when Country was cool. Joe Diffie, Trisha Yearwood, Mark Chesnutt, Doug Stone, and Travis Tritt, who would become legends in a few years, are the incredible nominees for the 1992 Country Star of Tomorrow award. Travis had performed at the gala before, but Joe, Trisha, Mark, and Doug are invited to sing on stage. The award is presented by the legendary George Jones. Everything is joy, good vibes, and the best country music. Tanya Tucker and Alan Jackson, the awards hosts, can't stop laughing.
    Enjoy these awesome performances.
Joe Diffie - Ships That Don't Come In
Trisha Yearwood - Wrong Side of Memphis
Mark Chesnutt - Old Flames Have New Names
Doug Stone - Come In Out Of The Pain

The early 90s were the last breaths that real country music on mainstream radio would ever take.

      This is a keen observation.
I could hear Mark Chesnutt forever.

It was definitely a great time to be a traditional country fan! I feel very fortunate to have had my beginnings as a country fan during that time. The downside is I've had to painfully witness the mainstream part of the genre quickly deteriorate in the last 20 years.

I miss Joe. And now we've lost another great Rest in Peace Loreta. Boy Joe can sure sing. The 90's was where it was at for country music.

I was ten years old when this all happened. Joe blew me away then which will never change no matter how many days that the rest of us have to go forward without him here with us still. Everything about this performance is perfect. Thank you so much for getting it up here. God bless you and his family always!!! Holly in east Tennessee

Too much country legends in one footage. Even the nominees for Star of Tomorrow are now legends. Rest easy, Joe Diffie!

What a great lineup! Back when these award shows were actually worth watching. You couldn't go wrong with any of these artists. The early 90's had an endless well of talent and great artists when it came to country, and I miss those times so much.
