Between the Buried and Me "Memory Palace" from the album "Coma Ecliptic".
    Lyrics:
    Awake me
    Stoic and ready
    Living in levity
    Static entry
    Chatter has left me
    A statue grown
    With intentions from my own
    I stutter on
    Key driven
    A swollen breeze insults me
The scent of a natural place
    Chatter has left me
    A statue grown
    With intentions from my own
    I stutter on
    Key driven
    Horrid thoughts finally leave me
Dismiss the notion of the unwanted force
    Static entry
    Alone and free
    Awake me
I never want to get out of here
Visions of my past will disappear
    (I never end)
    Focus on melody
    The sounds under my eyes
Dreaming inside of this world inside my mind
    Drift on
    Never end
    Static exit
    Animate
    Tubes swim with my veins
An orchestra of lights graze over my corpse
    Our souls are melting
    Immobilized limbs secrete liquid smoke
    Fill the room with fear
A losing act draws in the final wake
    Overcome “the end”
I did not, I did not want to come back
I did not, take me back
    It’s over
I sit drenched in the summary of my past
Live in the name of the ghost
    I drift on
    Focus on melody
    The sounds under my eyes
Dreaming inside of this world inside my mind
    Drift on
    Never end

Ikr. Tbh ive never been that big of a fan of his growls. They are a little tedious at times, especially on songs where theres a really melodic part where his cleans are waywayway better.

What a transformation from record to record over the years but what a rock solid, sure fire, win they have delivered. Once again, steadfast class, quality, and musicianship. Never a dull moment. • @eden4532
    @eden4532 9 ปีที่แล้ว +12

I hope this isn't their pinnacle of their sound because nothing before this has been as good as this. They truly have found their sound and refined on this. Not saying their past stuff felt boring but there have been many moments where I felt a random riff was put all over the place in songs to complete it but this song, not one moment, not one second wasted, every space in this song has been injected with something godly, out of this world. My hopes are that this will shove over Colors, The Parallax as their masterpiece. They have progressed beyond metal, into the kings of prog alongside Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Rush, Dream Theater and have been offered a throne alongside

    • @LurchyScott
      @LurchyScott 9 ปีที่แล้ว

I actually lost interest in BTBAM until Parallax 2 came out. I started listening to them when Alaska came out and though I enjoyed that record it was the only one I really enjoyed. Colors was meh to me (OMG HOW DARE I SAY THAT!!!!) and their first two records were also meh as well but I've never been into the kind of music they were writing before. Alaska was an exception. The great misdirect was a good album but it was Parallax 1 and 2 that brought me back to this band. And this song just is fucking phenomenal. I don't care if they are screaming ( I prefer cleans anyways) and are super heavy. This is fucking chalk full of prog metally goodness.

His diction has gotten so much better, quality of singing voice has gotten much better, story telling has gotten so much better, etc. Great stuff, man! Same signs of progression go to Blake, Paul, Dan and Dustie in the instrumentals. Also love the more progressive sound of this song. The hype is very real for this album!

For any one new or old to Between the buried & me who think they sound like this...or that must visit The anatomy of. This cover album will give you some much needed in site on their influences that has shaped and evolved this band. Each album stands on its own and though you can always draw comparisons from time to time, album to album, they always deliver a exceptionally unique listening experience.
I saw a few negative comments stating,in a nutshell, that after Colors each album became "formulated" or "repetitive". I couldn't disagree more. Yes they could have continued riding the success of that album, but they succeeded it with Misdirection. Not only is it a heavier body of work, slightly less theatrical, but also leans to a more technical representation of their craft.
This band to me is the Epiphany of what artistry stands for, and I always look forward with anticipation for each and every album release!

I really love the new record. It’s not my favorite by them, but it’s really close. I love how they’re writing more straightforward songs now (still a lot weirder than most bands though) but still manage to sound unique. Pick any 10 seconds of the record and you can tell it’s BTBAM. I love if it if a band has this quality. If you want to check out another band that has a really unmistakable sound, listen to Pregnant Whale Pain. Awesome riffs, great songwriting and an outstanding vocalist with a huge range. Dog Fashion Disco is really unique aswell. Both bands are relatively unknown, but definitely worth checking out.

+Ross Hart Pregnant Whale Pain is incredible, huge props for the rec (and damn thatsinger is good, sounds like the son of Rody Walker and Layne Staley), but Dog
Fashion Disco sounds a lot like Mr. Bungle to me.

    • @rosshart1167
      @rosshart1167 8 ปีที่แล้ว

+Auqarutan I agree to an extent, Bungle has definitely influenced them a lot, (and the singer is generally doing many Patton-esque things), but I think they're still managing to take all their influences and turn them into something fresh. But overall I'd pick PWP over DFD too.

    Here are the lyrics:
    Awake me.
Stoic and ready. Living in levity.
    Static entry.
Chatter has left. A statue grown… with intentions from my own.
    I stutter on. Key driven.
    A swollen breeze insults me.
The scent of a natural place.
Chatter has left. A statue grown… with intentions from my own.
    I stutter on. Key driven.
    Horrid thoughts finally leave me.
Dismiss the notion of the unwanted force.
    Static entry. Alone and free.
    Awake me.
I never want to get out of here.
Visions of my past will disappear.
    I never end.
    Focus on melody.
    The sounds under my eyes.
Dreaming inside of this world inside my mind.
    Drift on.
    Never end.
    Static exit. Animate.
    Tubes swim with my veins…
An orchestra of lights graze over my corpse.
    Our souls are melting.
    Immobilized limbs secrete liquid smoke.
    Fill the room with fear.
A losing act draws in the final wake.
    Overcome “the end”.
I did not, I did not want to come back.
I did not… take me back.
    It’s over…
I sit drenched in the summary of my past.
Live in the name of the ghost.
    I drift on.
    Focus on melody.
    The sounds under my eyes.
Dreaming inside of this world inside my mind.
    Drift on.
    Never end.

Far more prog than before, but i doubt i really have to tell anyone that. It also feels as if Tommy's vocals haven't been produced to hell and back and feel a lot rawer and more real. All in all, it's looking as though it'll be album of the year, though i doubt that's much of a contest. I've only listened to one album so far this year, Enter Shikari's new one, and it was crap.

Carson Troeh The only song i genuinely thought was very good was Slipshod. I somewhat like The Last Garrison, although it sounds like a song made for the radio. I didn't like the album before it either though. Common Dreads is pretty good, and Take To The Skies is in my top 10. In my opinion, they're just another band that i loved that have gone downhill. At least Between The Buried and Me are still killing it.

    • @carsontroeh127
      @carsontroeh127 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Senator Cthulu I honestly think that MS is way better than AFFoC- but RR is better than both MS and AFFoC. I only really liked Slipshod, MS 1, Anaesthetist, The Last Garrison and Myopia, I don't think we'll get anything like Take to the Skies from anybody (maybe Fail Emotions? Dunno) for a LONG time.

Carson Troeh I will give it that. As much as i like more songs on A Flash Flood of Colour, the other songs were very poor. The songs on the new album didn't disappoint me as much. Only Enter Shikari could give us that exact sound again, but it seems they've moved on.

His growls got really weak with this album compared to before. I was worried they were pulling an Opeth and softening up their sound, compromising it in the process and turning in something that wasn't as unique or memorable. So far that's the vibe I'm getting with this single, but it's only one song, perhaps the rest of the album will be more dynamic, but this isn't nearly the masterpiece that Colors was. I'm glad they're trying something different but this is the wrong kind of different for me. In the sense that I've heard music like this all up and down the Prog scene. Instead of doing more to stand out they're doing more to blend in. I really hope the rest of the album proves me wrong.

I wish people would give colors a rest, Btbam is my favorite band, and that album didn't do anything for me. Idk why, just didn't tickle my fancy. Hypersleep and Future Sequence were absolute gold though. This IS a step in the right direction.

    • @BassbaitGG
      @BassbaitGG 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

adtrhasfaithinme Colors is by far their best for me. First off, the problem with Great Misdirect on through Parallax 2 is the emphasis on noodly instrumentation, theatrics over emotion, similar musical ideas running from song to song, etc.
Colors felt like 8 songs written by totally different bands that all sound cohesive together. "Prequel to the Sequel" is a different beast from "Foam Born", whereas the difference between "Extremophile Elite" and "Lay your Ghosts to Rest" is far less defined. The lyrics were more personal and heartfelt, the music was more tonally contrasted to the scene (most heavy bands sound "brutal", whereas Colors had this interesting emotional core that resonated even through the heaviest moments of the album). The album even announces itself to be the epitome of what the band stands for, with "White Walls" being lyrically about cleaning the slate, starting over, and making a statement that can matter long after their death.
They traded in the early days of emotional cores to heavy music for a Dream Theater-esque "style over substance" sound that is making them less and less of a unique driving force in the scene and more of "just another Opeth" or "just another Dream Theater". Colors will always remain their most critically acclaimed, and to lots of people, their best, simply because there is nothing else like it out there, not from the band or from the scene they're a part of. It stands apart in their discography just as "Crack the Skye" stands out for Mastodon.
This is the wrong direction because instead of growing like they did in Colors, they're retreating to focusing on the elements that make them similar to other bands, and not the elements that make them different.

    • @Reflexion89
      @Reflexion89 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

adtrhasfaithinme The Great Misdirect was pure gold to me. I agree that colors is a little over hyped. I feel like Alaska doesn't get enough credit, and by now they have lost everything that made silent circus amazing. As they refine their sound, they lose something raw and unpredictable, which really defined them to me musically. I didn't like Parallax 2 as much as everyone else did but it was a masterpiece, even I can admit that.

I remember hearing Telos before the release of Parallax II and thinking it was good but not great. But then the full album comes out, and I get to hear it within the full concept, which made it stand out and give me a greater appreciation for it. Same thing with Melting City. I'm curious to see how this song will truly resonate when taking the album as a whole. That's when their music really shines.
