    Just a quick one, in an emergency even if your phone doesn’t have a signal it will attach to any other network or the emergency services Tetra or the Railways GSMR system when dealing 999 or 112

    Please please please please keep these up! Love seeing someone who's got real first hand experience camp out! Especially when I can't be going out, I don't have the experience like you but I don't post about how to do stuff when I've got no idea.

    Great stuff. It shows compass skills are important for everyone even experts. No matter what causes the confusion it can only take a few strides the wrong way to become lost or injured from a fall. Thank for another important reminder. Practice compass skills

    A real top adventure. I enjoyed that end to end. It is a fantastic area - one of my favorites. In fact you camped yards from where my twin brother and I camped the last time on that particular mountain. The forest climbed higher then - it's been felled now. But yeah a great walk up and nice and fresh in the night. With some good grub and a decent bag though you were made up. Awesome morning - nice and wild. As you say prepare well. It's the 5 P's eh? First video of yours. Subbed on account of the good vibes. mark

      Staff Sergeant M.F.Strathdee Glider Pilot Regiment who was killed on that mission was an RAF Pilot , an officer who gave up his RAF rank to be one of the first of the GPR First Pilots (crown, lion ,wings brevet) as a SNCO. His second pilot was Sergeant P Doig. (wings and crcle with G central on brevet) There is a memorial to them and the other crews and soldiers at RAF Skitten in Scotland. The movie Heroes of Telemark does not do them justice. The Brits and Norwegians involved were indeed amazing people. Skis Against The Atom is a great book, and Ray Mears covered it in another book based on a TV two parter. Well worth seeking on YT

    i walked along the same path you took about 2 years ago, it was a nightmare (carried too much, my bergen was untested and sub standard) ... had constant rain, so much so the ground was saturated and started pooling around anything on the ground (ended up sleeping on a rock outcrop). There was a white out due to fog ... which was very disorientating even thou i have plenty of time in the mountains, i ended up just using the compass and trying to count off junctions in the paths and wishing i had GPS, lol

    Theres a comet up at the moment.
    Saying because i was in llanberis pass when Hale Bop went over. It was a bit misty . The pass acted like a giant telescope. Comet looked like size of a table tennis ball at arms length ( ie huge )
    Might be worth keeping an eye out for it

    Have the same excellent rucksack, and was looking for a pouch to sit on it, and low and behold, there is one on yours...which one do you have and what size as I was looking at a tasmanian tiger tac pouch, or the savotta side pouch as these connect using the compression straps. Would appreciate any info on yours.

    Looked lovely and festive out there Tom :) I've started reporting home using OS Locate for a grid reference. Any tips on navigating in fog / cloud inversion? I'd planned a day into night hike but that topped with 5m vis meant I had to stick to a hard path and change my planned route.

    • @PreparedPathfinder
      @PreparedPathfinder  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good that you were able to modify your route, based on the conditions. Same navigation skills for any loss of visibility;
      - know how to use a map and compass proficiently.
      - be able recognise the shape of the ground to confirm your position. Use DDCRAPS as shown in one of my previous videos.
      - don't just follow tracks...they might not be shown on the map. And those on the map may not be there in reality.
      - pacing and timing.
      - use bearings and trust your compass.
      - keep navigational legs short.

    • @davidcann6021
      @davidcann6021 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PreparedPathfinder Thanks Tom I'll take a look. Did a 2 day nav course last year, need to practice timing and pace a bit more. Luckily I've walked the same path quite a few times before. Main take home was my head torch is crap so I've bought and tested out another. Walking 7 miles holding a torch even if clipped onto a karabiner isn't fun

    • @PreparedPathfinder
      @PreparedPathfinder  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidcann6021 yeah a decent headtorch is essential, sometimes it’s better to use ambient light (if there is any) though.

    Ironic as before scrolling down I was wondering what the Rab jacket was! I've been struggling to find a good Goretex jacket to go over the Carinthia Mig4.0.
    Did you ever use the Arc'teryx LEAF gore or the Carinthia PRG during your service as a Para, because I'm finding it hard to justify the financial outlay at the moment, but I do need a suitable Gore hardshell.

    • @PreparedPathfinder

    • @lumpy3408
