When I finally have time to paint but haven't had time to plan what to paint, I love just finding a watercolor image online, and then I try to replicate it (and add my own little twist). It means I don't have to think much when I am burned out, but I do get the joy of creating something and trying a variety of skills.
Hmm I like "exploring journal" instead of "trash" - believe every mark on paper is the beginning of some growth. To each their own. Love the opaque white idea. So the color palette examples are wonderful. Use Sarah Renae Clark's catalogues and now she has new boxes of color palettes too. Love your methodology and mixed media additions.
This kind of journal will probably be the most valuable one your own! "Perfect" and journals aren't always compatible. They are books you write for your future!vi with they were used more back in the 90s when i started WC! I used inexpensive sketchbooks, but the paper didn't work well with wet media!
U are awesome. This video got me so motivated... especially the tittle. Because I do have those feelings sometimes, lol. I love to experiment, and U are so right. The trash journals are so helpful, especially for mixed media.
Always love your style Carrie - even if it’s just swatching and figuring things out. 😊 I don’t know if anyone else has ever made mention, so please take with a grain of salt and in kindness - opaque is pronounced ending with a k not a g. “opayck” instead of “opayg”. Can’t wait to see what you create this year!
I have to admit, the effect of the white you added was very cool. Its always been in my mind as a 'no no', unless its for adding detail, but it looked great. I shall give myself permission to play around with it in washes 😄🌻
Hullo Carrie, I believe that you can create a “spark” just by swatching some paints. Choose some paint that you might not use daily and just create a sheet of mixes that you have not done before or seldom use together! Now I like mixing my own greens, but why not buy a green and try to mix it yourself? You can also buy a new color from your favorite paint brand it can be brand new or brand new to you and see how it works with your normal or regular pallet try a new color like from DaVinci and the color Denise’s Green is a lovely staple that found it’s way onto my studio palette! You never know what might start that avalanche of ideas flowing down your consciousness! Best of practice to you and anyone else reading!

Thank you for not guilting me for practicing on "cheap" paper. So many creators insist that you still practice on 100% cotton $5 per sheet paper.
There's an in-between. Canon XL blocks are great an cost about 10/15 $ for 30 pages.

When I’m in that mental state I do neurographic art. It’s a great way to relax but you can still play with colors like you were doing.
