What was the profile on the lenovo, economy or maximum performance from the battery? As far as I remember from the box, you still need to configure it on windows machines. Have you done this?
Can you recommend a better windows laptop within the same price ?, everything in this price range has a catch, some have tn displays some with horrible sRGB, but this one seeem to not"have a catch"
2 Things , first the Lenovo is a i5 !!! second it's on batterie , and it usually switches then to a more conservative mode , don't know for the M1 .... so at the end i'm not sure if it's fair , but nice video anyway ....any comment on fan noise would be great !!
@@gregtoope Hmmm. I'm not really sure but that's just from my own searches and from that I found out a difference of give or take 500USD when I compare both laptops lowest spec available.
no question that m1 is far superior. However, all this comes at a cost, in the UK, Mac costs over 50% more, i.e. (converted): M1: 2345USD, lenovo: 1250 USD (though not available as of September 2021). There are also some other issues (on top of ssd), such as: your lenovo comes with intel i5, I believe, and with onboard intel graphics. Lenovo variants with amd ryzen 7 and onboard nvidia graphics are - reportedly - much more efficient at various graphics tasks. Another factor _might_ be ram. I saw you add another 8gb stick, but to run in dual-channel mode it's got to be identical stick (or at least near-a) the one already on board (I'm not saying it wasn't though). Another factor might be that lenovo is, reportedly, 'aggressive' in power management in battery mode, cuts down processor speed significantly. That said, M1 in your test also runs on battery (and it's widely known that Apple are way ahead of the rest in terms of battery / power optimisation). Ultimately for me though (irrelevant to the performance, which clearly shows the winner) the major no-no against apple is their walled garden approach that extends past OS, deep into hardware. In other words, they control the design and make it purposedly very hard and very, very expensive to repair and upgrade components. While all other manufacturers have copied their approach, at least with this lenovo model you can upgrade ssds and repair/replace some components, like keyboard, fan, wifi card, etc. Should these fail on M1, you''ll pay through the nose to get those fixed, unless you're happy with serious do-it-yourself repair. But that's beyond the straight comparison. btw, I guess it would be more of a match to compare M1 against lenovo ideapad5 pro (14-inch) which comes with dedicated (low-end, but still) graphics card (and much better screen) and it reportedly costs around 1000USD (if you can find it anywhere!). I still don't think it would match M1 though.
Hey man. I'm seriously looking at this computer as a budget video editor. I've found a good price on one with 16gb ram and the 4700u. I'm thinking that adding a 16gb for the second memory port will do the trick but my concern is more with the 4700u. Do you think the 32gb upgrade will be enough to handle my tasks with that processor? Thanks buddy! -Ryan in Fort Erie
Thank you for this great video, I want to tell you that I was really considering buying this Lenovo laptop ... for 4k video editing .. using Davinci!! and you just hit the point! so thank you .. I still see Lenovo can do the job for sure, but the concern here is what if I am working on a larger project! imagine home much time it will consume to complete a 20 or 30 min 4k video for example! to be honest, I had a doubt to pay more for the Macbook M1 (although I know that it's a better machine than Lenovo of course) BUT! I didn't expect that much big difference! especially if you will have different programs or apps that will run same time on the machine, so I imagine the processor will go crazy with such a slow hard disk. Thank many for the good stuff ;)

It's really not fair to compare the M1 Mac to any Windows laptop that costs less than about $3,000. Also, I own both a Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL and a M1 Pro 16" Macbook Pro.
