    People dont get it. It is about consistency in refereeing in adherence to the rules when borderline calls are made. If the referee sometimes doesn't give a handball in that same position and other times does. Then that gives the referee the chance to actually pick and choose when to make the call. Then affect the outcome of the game or even get paid to cheat for a side.
    The referee should of just stuck to the same refereeing style at the beginning of the tournament where any sort of hand ball away from the body was a penalty. But to suddenly change the their mind shows no consistency even if the rules can be interpreted support it.

    The solution to this case is obvious. It was clearly a mistake by the referee, who was, however, under massive pressure. Days earlier, in the Germany-Denmark match, the referee decided to give a penalty after letting the VAR decide. However, this VAR was reprimanded by referee boss Rosetti after the game against Denmark, saying that he should not decide on penalties because of such trifles.
    And in the match between Germany and Spain, the SAME VAR was used again, this time not wanting to do anything wrong. The English referee also knew this, which is why he didn't give a penalty.
    A clearly wrong decision! - It was clearly a most likely successful shot on goal, which was prevented by the hand of the Spanish player.

    • @OhLoonJohnson
      @OhLoonJohnson หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The UEFA assignment of referees to certain games is just incredibly stupid. Denmark were clearly stronger than Germany up to then, would have been interesting to see how the match went were that "offside" not given and game not interrupted for the rain...So that they made it to the Spain match is already a great result. Kroos committed 5 fouls in the Spain match (3 more than any other offender)!!!! and all yellow standard fouls. He should have been booked for the butcher-like foul on Pedri, long before he was eventually yellow carded halfway through the second half for halting Dani Olmo's run on goal. Had the referee given the two yellows Kroos absolutely deserved, how would Germany have played without Kroos in ten for more than 100 minutes??? Also, the 3 min extra time turned magically into six, nobody mentions that either...So Germany wasn't robbed. Spain was the slightly stronger side. And the referee made mistakes on both sides. Your suppose to block the ball with your legs or chest when a shot is going towards target, not with your hands. That is why this is a clear penalty. If cucerella handled the ball anywhere else in the area where he is challenging for the ball with a German player than it would definitely not be a penalty. The fact is cucerella was at least 7 yards away from any German player when he blocked a goal bound shot with his outstretched hand so this to me based on the rule book is an automatic penalty. And for those that might think that I must be bias, I can tell you guys I have always been an italian fan since I was a kid and I never objected that frattesi handball against croatia as unfortunate it was a clear cut penalty and the ref had to make that call in an important match. I hated that it was a penalty of course but after watching the replay myself it was the right call. This spain hand ball I feel was even more of a penalty than the italian one as his entire hand and arm was outstretched. There is a big difference between hating a call from a fans point of view and the right call being made no matter which team you support.

    Literally in the 3rd minute of the game, Kroos breaks Pedri's knee and leaves him out of the Euro Cup and he doesn't even see a yellow card, and not only that, at 20 minutes he does another one and he doesn't see a yellow card either, it would make me ashamed to be German and complain about yesterday's refereeing.

    • @reversegoatee5997
      @reversegoatee5997 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      It makes it all the more horrific. I agree that Kroos should have been booked earlier. And who knows, that might have impacted the game. But I cannot recall a more clear penalty being denied in a long time.
      It was just overall garbage officiating. And that is not worthy of a Euro quarter final.
      So yes. As a German I have no problem whatsoever complaining about horrific refereeing.

      It's always the same people crying and whining about Kroos. Guys it's not that hard to understand unless you have an IQ under 85: If Kroos got a yellow card in the beginning of the game he obviously wouldn't have made the later harsh foul where he got the yellow card. So yea Kroos deserved yellow card in minute 3 but nothing would have happened.

    If that had been a goal line clearance hitting his hand like that it's a straight pen . This whole bs about subjective handballs is just annoying because later on we'll see another incident like this and it's gonna be given as a pen . The level of inconsistency in officiating is actually ruining the games . We saw it in the prem , laliga , serie a , champions league . At this point I'd rather the letter of the law than nature of the law , because atleast it'll be consistent.

    If a defender jumps into a shot to block it, his arms need to touch his body. Otherwise its a penalty. The defender next to Chucharella does exactly that. So of course its a penalty, he blocks the shot with his hand that is widely away from his body. And of course the shot was on target. It is so simple. Who is this Scot talking about football? Is he hockey player or what?

    I also thought it was a handball until I read the official FIFA rules “For the purposes of determining handball offences, the upper boundary of the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit. Not every touch of a player's hand/arm with the ball is an offence. It is an offence if a player: deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball.” So it was not a handball.

    A statement for the record: I very much dislike the way the Germans and the English approach football. Having said that, I consider ridiculous the way the Germans were eliminated the day before yesterday. I am not a referee, but I would have given the penalty. Taylor (and the VAR assistants) must have had his (their) own reasons for letting the match continue. It may also be that they had to take "intention" into account (which may be difficult to judge), as well as the shortness of the distance (between the shooter and the defender). I find all these EXTREMELY confusing and I would suggest that the FIFA lot have another close look at this issue. The veil of mystery, concerning when a penalty should be given and when not, must be removed. I would go for the obvious: handball by any defender inside the penalty area = penalty, no matter where the arm is, regardless of intention, regardless of closeness. If this does not come to pass, people will go on discussing for decades whether an arm was in touch with the body in a particular situation or not, whether an arm was in its "natural" position, whether an arm was supporting a falling defender, whether a defender was looking away and had no intention to touch the ball, and the like. At the end of the day, I feel that the rules must become simpler and more straightforward. In any other case, everything will continue to rest upon the momentary judgement of the referee (and of the VAR assistants).

    We have technology to analyze these situations. I can't understand why they didn't use it to check if it was offside. And if that's not the point then it definitely was handball cause the ball was going inside and Cucurella probably unconsciously knew it and preferred a penalty instead.
    I'm spanish but sports rules should be applied as a science and not as an art, just for sake of fairness

    Almost everybody take the scene only from the 2 seconds Cucarella touches the Ball with his wrist and argue that there was no intension to do so by the player... hmmm, please watch the scene in complete, from the pass to Füllkrug.. and you will come to 2 decisions;
    1. Fülle was not offside in the moment the ball is passed to him
    2. But Cucarella moves immediately two steps over to the left, seen from the direction and point where Musialla got the ball. So his intension is to block his shot, and this means his pure intension is to avoid a goalshot by Musialla, and he is at 5 Meters distance, so this is a perfect handgame, whether he tried to get his arm on the back or not, basta.. Funny by the way that his right arm is where it belongs when a defender blocks a shot in this area.
