    D. V. Gundappa was deeply influenced by Indian philosophy, particularly Vedanta, and his writings reflected his profound understanding of spirituality and human nature. His philosophical work "Jeevana Dharma Yoga" explored the principles of righteous living and the pursuit of self-realization. In this seminal work, DVG delved into topics such as morality, ethics, and the interplay between the individual and society.
One of DVG's most renowned literary works is "Manku Thimmana Kagga" (The Hollow Reed), a collection of profound philosophical verses. This masterpiece has been widely celebrated for its lyrical beauty and timeless wisdom. Through the verses of "Manku Thimmana Kagga," DVG shared his insights into various aspects of life, including love, spirituality, and the pursuit of inner peace.
In addition to his poetic endeavors, DVG made significant contributions to Kannada literature through his essays and critiques. He penned thought-provoking essays on topics such as literature, culture, society, and spirituality. His critical analysis of literary works showcased his keen observation and analytical skills.
In this video we discuss how desires and human nature are intertwined. Desires are inherent aspects of human nature, representing our yearnings, ambitions, and wants. They drive our actions, shape our aspirations, and provide us with a sense of purpose. However, desires can also be sources of conflict and distress when they clash with societal norms or contradict our moral compass.
In the realm of psychology, Sigmund Freud introduced the concept of repression, which refers to the subconscious suppression of desires deemed unacceptable by the individual or society. The super-ego, an integral part of Freud's psychoanalytic theory, acts as the moral compass, imposing restrictions on desires that may lead to guilt or anxiety.
The repression of desires can result in psychological turmoil and anxiety. Unfulfilled desires may manifest as frustration, restlessness, or a sense of emptiness. Anxiety arises from the fear of the consequences of pursuing our desires, the fear of judgment from others, or the fear of failing to meet societal expectations.
Transcending the duality of desires and repression involves finding a balance between fulfilling our authentic aspirations and adhering to moral principles. It requires introspection, self-awareness, and a deep understanding of our values and beliefs. By recognizing and acknowledging our desires, we can explore healthy ways of pursuing them without compromising our well-being or causing harm to others.
Positive thinking and hope play crucial roles in this process. Positive thinking allows us to cultivate an optimistic mindset and believe in the possibility of achieving our desires. It empowers us to overcome obstacles, learn from failures, and maintain resilience in the face of challenges. Hope provides the fuel that propels us forward, even in difficult times, reminding us that our desires are worth pursuing and that better outcomes are within reach.
Transcending the duality of desires and repression is a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. It involves embracing our desires, understanding their underlying motivations, and aligning them with our values and ethical principles. By cultivating positive thinking and maintaining hope, we can navigate the complexities of desire and repression, leading fulfilling and purposeful lives. Ultimately, it is through this process that we can find harmony between our desires and our sense of moral responsibility, fostering psychological well-being and inner peace.
