    I made this video to escape the intense heat these past few days in Mallorca. Don’t forget not all Mercadonas have the same products, so what you find in Palmanova you may not find in Inca! I hope it helps if you're planning a trip to the island to give you an idea of which foods to buy and the cost of essentials. Let me know what you love to buy in supermarkets on the island.

    Oh my life, we have been to the Son Caliu Mercadona hundreds of times, even my husband loves this place. Brilliant supermarket & so reasonable. We always bring Tunel back with us, we had our last bottle last year. One of the many reasons we can't wait to come back.

    Love Pan de leche! I always bring a package back to the states. Thanks for taking us to Mercadona. I was not familiar with it as I shop at the Carrefour near the airport. The prices seem a bit lower at Mercadona.

      I actually think I’m going to have to buy a pack of pan de leche now for nostalgia sake ! Yeah Mercadona is a little cheaper than Carrefour near the airport. But you do find a wider choice and more branded goods. Good stuff off though before getting a flight !

    Always use Mercadona in Campos, then down to Supermarkat for their freshly baked bread. There's a great little computer place in Campos too. I managed to crack the screen on my laptop and they replaced it within 24 hours for €40. Life saver! Always remember the guy that owns it explaining in Castilian that Mallorquin is no more a 'language' than any English dialect lol. It's just Catalan. Still, he did a great job. Another great video. 😍

      @@ricardopizarroespana9028 WTF are you talking about? Catalan is WIDELY spoken in the Balearics! The road signs are in Catalan AND Castilian. In recent years the Assemblea de Parlamentaris de les Illes Balears, (CATALAN!), has encoraged the promotion and use of Catalan on the islands. The official languages of Mallorca are Spanish AND Catalan. The local Mallorca Catalan dialect is called Mallorquin. Coño!

    Another good video Alex. I know you have done a few videos from Palma nova but I was wondering if you could do one that focusses more on the shops and bars and streets as opposed to the beach. That way as we are considering booking for later next month we will be able to judge if the resort is busy or empty. We have been coming for a number of years and always stay at the Santa Lucia, we visit the 3 brothers across the road, the Orion bar Taylors and Castaways mainly even though we book all inclusive. We obviously go in other bars but mainly use these as they are close and easy walking after a days walks. A video in the week at a time when most tourists would be about, around midday and on a weekday rather than a weekend when the resort is full of locals would give a fairer reflection of how many tourists are actually there. We do not want to book and find the resort is less than half full and only half the shops and bars are closed. We have 2 holidays booked for next year but would come this year if the resort looked quite full.
    Thanks Brian

    Some of the items appear cheaper than the UK but I notice quite a difference in culture. The supermarket in Mallorca has a very heavy influence on Spanish traditional food whereas supermarkets in the UK tend to sell food from all over the world including Spain.

    • @MallorcaUnderTheSun
      @MallorcaUnderTheSun  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's is definitely an emphasis on Spanish food, but if you see you shall find! You can almost find most things everywhere but it's never as simple as going to one supermarket for it all. Usually involves going around 3 or 4 stores!

However Carrefour too has everything - real mix of brands and quality. Especially the larger stores near the airport and in Porto Pi. There is a rise in small organic food shops too - eventually there will be a video about all of these !
