Remember the mercadona and the quality of the food compared to uk and wipes the floor with every uk supermarket. Loved it.
Thanks for watching and the comment 😊
We went to mercadona every other day last year on holiday and tried different wines each time. Not once did we pay more than 3 quid or get a bad wine. The quality of the food and drink was amazing. Thanks for posting
Hi. Thanks for the comment! We’ve never had a bad wine from there neither 😃
I live in Dubai, and I've just ran out of lentejas pardinas, everytime I come back to Spain I always return to Dubai with my luggage allowance maxed out with Mercadona products. 'Bueno, bonito y barato.'
My family like to stock up and take things home too! Thanks for watching! ☺️
The tomato jam is to die for, it’s really good
Thanks for letting us know! We need to try it! We’ve just made a batch of homemade tomato and chilli jam! Thanks for watching. ☺️
That's a really good thing to do as it helps tourists/holiday makers know what prices to expect and what things are. Keep up the fantastic work!
Hi Richardo! Thanks for the comment. We’ll keep the videos coming ☺️
Just found you guys & TH-cam channel 👍 Excellent I must say & professionally collated 👏 Tip Top

Mercadona is the most famous Spanish supermarket even when it's one of the most expensive. It's convenient frequently.

Hi from Falkirk, thanks for a very good video on shopping in Mercadona helps us when we are over in Cabo Roig.
Hi! Thanks for the comment, glad you found it useful 😃
Love that shop found the one in playa del ingles , a large baguette was 15 c , , six tangerines 50c , so many bargains
Thanks for the comment! Lots of bargains in mercadona 😃
Ofspring of Spanish parents living in London. We always shop in Mercadona when back in Spain.. Love the choice you get. Great video very informative and impressed with your knowledge of products 😊👌
Thanks for watching and the comment- really appreciated ♥️
Hi from cold Dublin great show guys
Hi Fred. Thanks for watching
Lol, I love shopping at the Mercadona while we are in Barcelona, my favorite grocery store. Love their freshly squeezed OJ machine.
Hi Bruce. Thanks for watching. You’re right about their OJ 😃
@@britslivinginspain 👍
Hi I will come to Barcelona in July what do you think one vegetarian person pay for one month for food?
@@nurefsanakgun5469 Maybe $1000 usd at most
@@nurefsanakgun5469 Hi, it’s difficult to say really, we’re not based in Barcelona. Where we live the cost of living is generally much cheaper than the Barcelona area. If you find the local fresh food markets where the locals do their shopping that would be the cheapest way and the produce is all really fresh and nice quality. However, beware the tourist markets like La Boqueria, they’re interesting to visit and the food is good but they are soooo expensive and aimed at the tourist market. Enjoy your travels.
New thing I saw last time, it was the lunch meal prepare for take away 😊..like a portion of pasta, rice, fideuá etc..whatever that day has prepared. Luv it!
Can't remember how much of that we've covered here... there's a video we did with a comparison between offerings of Mercadona and Carrefour. A lot of the fresh cooked/ ready meals are good 👍
Thanks for watching and the comment 😊
Regards from Edinburgh..I will be in elche, Costa Blanca en August for the fiestas 😊 I can not wait. Chocolate valor 😅😅 a few ones tablets I will bring with me 😏 ..will mercado. My sis said that is more expensive now. Diaprix or dia día is cheaper 😊
Enjoy the Fiestas!
Great video!
Thanks for the comment! 😃
Amazing selection of meats there, ham hock is always good roasted and cutting up into a soup with good stock and veg x
Hi! Thanks for the comment. We’re gonna try the ham hock with a Thai recipe. We’ll let you know how it goes! 😋
Where you were shopping is obviously one of the largest Mercadona stores, but where I live we have smaller stores here in Benidorm and surrounding and don't get half the variety you were showing and as you say the prices are different. As for gaseosa I buy that in 1.5 litre bottles, and it is soda water, but you can also get flavoured gaseosa with lemon and other flavours usually in cans though. I wish we had a Mercadona that big near me, I would be there every week, but I do have a discount store near me where I can get warehouse prices without a club card, so that has to do me along with my Lidl shopping.
Thanks fornthe comment. This one is maybe 2km from Helens ho8se. There's one in torrevieja centre that's as big, maybe bigger, and the range there is slightly different with only maybe 5km apart...
Tuna in the glass jar is super chunky for a salad. Love Mercadona
We tend to get the caballa (Mackrel?) In tins for salad. Thanks for watching 😊
I made the mistake of buying the cooked eggs when we first moved here. I got quite the surprise when I got home and tried to make an omelette! I love the mango ice lollies and also the strawberry ones. the lemon ice thingies are lovely too, they are in a pack of six tubs.
Thanks for the comment! We like all of their ice creams tbh 😂
Back home after 6 weeks we did our first big shop in Scotland and are at least 20% more expensive than Spain ( excluding wine). Mercadona caters for most of our needs too but we have two Consums within walking distance of the house so use them for top ups but make frequent visits to the big Carrefour as their bread is the best. Unfortunately The Food Company is the only shop that I can find that sells reasonably priced diluting juice.
Thanks for watching. There's also pick n pay in Guardamar or possibly open all hours in la zenia that may also do dilute...
We shop at Mercadona, by far the best for fruit and veg. Tried other supermercados, markets, stores.. the produce doesn’t last as long as those from mercadona. Very informative video.
Thanks for watching and the comment! 😄
Just subscribed, I enjoyed your shopping trip . xx❤
Thanks for watching and the comment 😁 hope you enjoy some of the other videos we've done. 😀
New to your Channel, realy enjoying it.
Thanks for joining us, and your comment 😊
The frozen chicken kebab meet is awesome - takes minutes to fry and its good with chips, rice, salad, pitta bread and tsatsiki (also from Mercadona) 😊
Helen was sceptical about that kebab meat but maybe we need to give it a try! Thanks for the comment! 😄
I think it is good also.
Know what I'm buying next shopping trip!- Andy
New subscriber - great video. It’s 2 x Heinz beans for £2 or 1 for £1.40 in Tesco here in the Uk at the moment!
Hi! Thanks for subscribing and the comment! Crazy prices! 😬
Mercadona is brilliant supermarket when would visit Spain my friend parents would shop in there I would buy my shower gel in there and take home it amazing stuff aloe Vera one is very good plus my dog loved the doggie sau
We love Mercadona and buy most of our shopping from there. Thanks for the comment 😃
Love shopping at Mrecadona at Quesada....its honestly my favourite food shop ( Inc. The UK)......Can't wait to do that 1st shop when we're back in September 💛

Hi! Thanks for watching ☺️
Evening Helen and Andy. Will you be doing more info vlogs on moving/buying in your region.
Hi Joe. Yes we will do more work related videos in the future.
All these meats in the cost, I found it affordable for 3 persons. Nice video👍
Thanks for watching and the comment 😊
Thanks for the video. Fizzy drinks better than fanta/ tango. The washing up liquid smells better and last longer than fairy. The washing liquid and fabric conditioner smells lovely and last along time I try to bring some back to the UK. You forgot to mention The Guvnor wines a must only in Mercadona €2.85. In the UK only in majestic wines £7 - 9.
Hi. Lots of people like the Guvnor wine but we actually prefer the Syrah one that we showed (2.35€). Just shows the difference in prices through! Thanks for watching and the comment 😃
You reminded me to be on the lookout for the coconut ice cream in the coconut shells which I saw as you panned the ice cream section. Can’t believe the olive oil is now cheaper here in the US than in Spain and most of it is coming from Spain or Italy. We like to get the manchego cheese when in Spain since it is usually 3X the price over here. Surprised to see Hellmans mayo. Love some of the British English vs American English words you use ie trolley vs shopping cart, ice lollies instead of ice pops😂. Have a great day and thanks for showing everyone around.
Hi Ted. Thanks for watching. Those coconut ice creams are delicious! 😋
Spain is the biggest olive oil producer in the world, but has been experiencing the worst draught in decades, which is why olive oil prices have recently multiplied. Even now, you can get a 1 liter bottle of extra virgin olive oil for less than 10 bucks. Could you please tell me exactly where in the US you can get Spanish extra virgin olive oil for less than 10 bucks??
Cheers!
@@1650million Hi just got your comment. Just outside NYC in April onLong Island I got extra virgin olive oil packed in Spain but said from olives from Italy Spain Greece or Tunisia for $ 8.99 but it was store brand name Bogopa. I got a 1 quart almost a liter from Trader Joe’s for $12.99 too. And Fillipo Berrio an Italian brand 1 liter $9.99 on sale recently. My point was just that the olive oil was so cheap in Spain that I would bring some home to US every year but when I saw the prices had skyrocketed last year it wasn’t worth it to bring back. Being Italian American I do use a lot of olive oil so I do tend to know prices.
@@tedg4171 I used to buy 750ml of extra virgin olive oil for 3.75 euros a bottle, five years ago, in the supermarket right in front of my house. Like I said, it´s mostly the draught (and worldwide overall inflation), that has taken it to these unheard prices. I actually cannot think of a single food ingredient which has multiplied its value more than olive oil, in a country well known across Europe for its more than reasonable food prices.
BTW, I suspect you don´t know "Italian" olive oil is often not Italian at all. We sell cheap olive oil in bulk to Italians, who take it to their country, rebrand it as "Premium" Italian olive oil, then export it to the US, charging 3 times the value in Spain... :D Please don´t trust me, do your research online.
Best!
Hi guys.Just come across your channel,so I've just subscribed and going to have a run of watching your vlogs.vicky
Thanks for joining us! There's plenty of diversity in what we've covered
Just back from Lanzarote and my first time in Spain since being diagnosed as coeliac ( sin gluten ) we found that Mercadona was bloody brilliant for Sin Gluten gluten free products, from the range of stuff that is made as gluten free and the range of products that are marked as gluten free when In uk they would have wheat or rusk in it. I was in hog heaven they had everything from gluten free beer to bread cereal to sweets. And my wife loves that wine for 2:40 a bottle lol great video guys my wife is a subscriber so decided to join her as love ur stuff Hi Bob !!!!
Hi. Thanks for that! Mercadona do have a great range for people with special dietary requirements, so do Carrefour. Glad you found what you needed when you were visiting!

Thanks! ☺️
Healthier, Cheaper & Tastier than USA!!!
Thats pretty much true of any country in the world. The USA is an absolute mess. People are gargantuan from eating food with growth hormones.
Hi! Thanks for the comment 😃
Remember some usa products are not allowed to sell in the EU due to restrictions about the ingredients. here in Europe we have some strict laws about quality..... I do not know if after Brexit the Uk have the same laws .
Thank you for another helpful video. I picked up a couple of tips I’ll implement when I do my shop when over there. Especially what chicken not to buy!! Ie neck etc! Can I ask a question? How is the fresh chicken prepared there? I always find it tougher than UK chicken . I ended up buying mine through an Irish butcher .
Hi Sarah! Thanks for the comment, we too have NOT tried the chicken neck! 😂 Not sure about how the chicken is prepared, we never have a problem with it. Maybe you’ve been unlucky.
Thats my local shop when im in spain
Hi Paul! Thanks for the comment, if you see us in there say hello! 😃
The Mercadona in Nerja is the best by a long way, especially as they are the only supermarket there to stock a large range of gluten free products for Coeliacs.
Thanks for watching and the comment. We will check it out- we're heading to Nerja next week for our holidays, so there will be some videos from that area in the future 😀
I used to always do my shopping in Mercadona but drastically changed my diet so now only ocasionally go to buy orange juice and salted butter.
Thanks for watching and the comment 👍
Anyone else here love the new mercadonna at la zenia “ I do “
We love our Mercadona. Glad you have a new one and thanks for the comment! ☺️

Great video. Which Mercadona were you in guys please? 😊
Just read the description where you have put the info 'doh!'
Hi! Just seen your other comment too. Thanks for watching! 😃
Ironically that is the Mercadona we use, the one at the Habaneros is closer but always end up there. And much cheaper that Carrerfour...
Hi guys! Thanks for watching. 😃
@@britslivinginspain keep up the good work!
You haven't tried Whittakers chocolate only made in New Zealand. It's unbelievable..😊😊😊🍫🍫🍫🍫
We'll look out for it on our travels 😊 thanks for watching and the comment 👍
I've been shopping in Mercadona down the coast from you since I moved out 10 years ago. Most shoppers I see are Spanish obviously but there are more Brits coming in these days (some like rabbits in the headlights 😛). The fear of someone trying to talk to them in Spanish has obviously diminished now that the boxed Iceland sh*te has gone through the roof and they're forced to buy cheaper. That said, prices have rocketed obviously since the pandemic but the brakes seem to be on now. When I used to drink Gaseosa it was about 21cents not so long ago so now that it's 50c it shows how much it's rocketed...
Still our go to shop where I now supplement our keto diets with their products. I love their butter at 1.90 a 250g....
You try telling those back in Blighty... they'd never believe ya what with the prices they pay 😐
Hi. Prices have definitely gone up but still so much cheaper than the shops in U.K. thanks for watching and the comment 😃
Ready made meals have a high content of Salt not good for people with Heart ♥ issue.
Yes brilliant video but Shopping in Spain has got more expensive the last 3 years,😮
You don't get anyway near as many ready made stuff over here as the UK- and we've seen prices steadily increase (apart from olive oil, that's nuts). Thanks for watching and the comment 👍
What’s the best potatoes for making chips thanks
Hi. If you look on the bags they have for sale it tells you what they’re best for. One of them has chips on the label. ☺️
So thats about £130 give or take a pound in UK. Compared to Aldi / Lidl / Asda i think its possibly level pegging ! Not much difference to UK but I guess if you factor in the actual way of life over on Spain with weather ect im guessing its cheaper than living in the UK. Lucky people, i wish i could up sticks and move out of this country. nice vlog :)
Some items can be a lot cheaper than the uk, others not so much, but overall, cheaper ... thanks for watching and the comment
Why did you not mention price of English brand food products, Weetabix silly price, PG tips very expensive, Fresh Salmon crazy price,, a liter of low fat Fresh milk about 1.10,
We don't know UK prices on the whole as a comparison. A lot of the British stuff there are Spanish alternatives. Fresh milk isn't used that often over here, probably because of shelf life dates and storage (uht can be stored in a cupboard until opened for example)
Thanks for watching 😊
The food in Spain is not spicy at all, so it is normal that those sausages are not spicy. We don't put cereals (?) inside the sausages either, I've never heard of that in my life. Here the sausages only have meat, maybe a little bit of animal fat and maybe a little bit of black pepper, but that's it.
You are correct. Spanish is not spicy. We mention cereal because ALL English sausages contain cereal so people from U.K. might find sausages with no cereal a little strange. We on the other hand love the Spanish sausages. The aim of this video was to inform visitors of the variety of product in their local supermarket. Thanks for the comment.
@@britslivinginspain Yes yes I see, no problem, sorry. I didn't know that english sausages had cereal inside them. Maybe it's due to some historical fact.
@@Ilar-en7lg Just different historical ways of manufacturing things. We like both. We love Spanish food y también inglés. Llevamos mucho tiempo viviendo aquí y nos encantan ambas culturas y cocinas. Pero sobre todo la vida aquí.
@@britslivinginspain Ah thank you :). What do you like about the life in Spain?
The reason lots of Sin Gluten in Mercadona is because the family who own, or owned Mercadona - their daughters where gluten intolerant.
Never knew that- thanks for watching 😊
Very interesting video..however, Lots of telling us what's there but not telling us the price..
As we mentioned at the start... some mercadona charge different prices. We did show the prices of some items... if we were to show prices of everything we would have been there all day... thanks for watching 👍
Helen, I would love to know the facebook page you were on about. Ladies in Spain or something like that. Thanks.

Hi. To our knowledge we've not seen any. You may get sone from Dialprix (?)- they do a selection of British goods, as well as pick n pay in Guardamar, The food co in quesada and ocean foods (iceland) in various places. Thanks for watching 👍
@@britslivinginspain thank you, might take them little 66ml robbinsons squash with us as we only have hand luggage. Thank you for your vlogs, I'm enjoying working my way back watching them and learning new things to prepare for our holiday x
Spain has really getting expensive over the years..Im happy im living and working here in Bangkok for a fraction of the European prices and in what reargued luxury in Europe..
I spend about 25% of my salary for rent food and everyday life a month here.
Never cook food at home and rent a nice 1 bedroom condo for around 270€ a month+ 25€ for electricity and water and a dinner cost about 1-2 € same with clothes transportation and all other things in life...its extremely cheap
We love Thailand... it is cheaper cost of living but cheaper wages as well, usually. We're back to Thailand in 2026, if not before.. thanks for watching and the comment 👍
@@britslivinginspain Im swedish and works for a swedish company with swedish salary..so life is good here in Thailand..often spending less than 1000€ a month total.=)
But spain is really expensive now as the rest of Europe..Its not the cheap safe paradise i was backpacking and interrail in the 1990ties and later on go for party and beach time.
Bonus! We are in touch with several youtubers in Bangkok, and met them last visit, and hope to meet them next visit 😀
You compare life in Spain with Thailand. please....!! The quality of life in Spain is unmatched
@barbasevic you can't compare the two as they are completely different. But. Costs wise, Thailand is a LOT cheaper, and is a beautiful country. For us, personally, we love Spain as a place to live and explore, Thailand as a place to explore and to spend our holidays, as 2 completely different cultures and experiences.
Mercadona is a low-cost supermarket where they only sell their own branded products. It's like the Lidl or the Aldi of Spain. It's not where you are supposed to buy your meat, fish, charcuterie, cheeses, fruit, etc. For that you have to go to local, quality butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers etc.
Will disagree on this one- they sell a lot of their own brand products and also sell some "branded" products- Knorr, Nestle, Weetabix, Juardo, Pescanova, Danone, Unilver, etc. The meat and fish we've had from there is good. It won't beat a traditional butchers, or bigger supermarkets that have a meat or fish counter, but some of the bigger Mercadona do have fresh fish counters etc. There are, of course, Lidl and Aldi, if you wish
The meat we've had from Lidl hasn't been as good....
Thanks for watching.
@@britslivinginspain It's is true that they also sell some products that are not their brand, but most of them are their own brand.
I'm not saying that the meat and fish they have are bad, after all they are Spanish products made in Spain, but given that there are very good butchers, fishmongers etc. in Spain, it's a shame to go to Mercadona to buy fresh produce, but many hicks do as it is cheap, and they don't care or know about quality.
The problem is that the butchers and fishmongers are often only open at certain times- many people working would struggle to get to fishmongers or butchers when they're at work.... but thanks for calling us hicks 👍
@@britslivinginspain They are open all day (9 am to 20h) as far as I know. No, you are not hicks sorry, I mean that some do. Sorry for my comment, it was very rude.
@@Ilar-en7lg if you look in our back catalogue you will see we’ve made videos of other supermarket chains, local butchers, fresh food markets and also British food shops. We just like to show people about life in Spain. No all visitors integrate as we do.
Mercadona is good value
It is indeed. Thanks for watching, and the comment 👍
