Just finished the video and I'm super excited for your Olivia Rodrigo deep-dive! I was super impressed by your Taylor Swift video essay so I'm looking forward to learning new background information about Olivia's story. I don't really listen to unreleased music but I find it very interesting in your context of documentary-style videos, just for the additional information and the peek behind the artist's curtain. It's kind of like journalism and investigative work, what you're willing to expose probably depends on the story you're trying to tell and what you think is important or interesting in the artist's context (and their narratives). I wouldn't put in clips because of copyright but discussing relevant lyrics of unreleased songs is fine I think? Acknowledging their existence is not a problem in my opinion, every artist has a bunch of those floating around the internet.
I loved your GUTS ranking and I agree with a lot of your points - particularly on lacy, teenage dream and logical. I also love the grudge! (and I feel like it was talked about like almost as much as lacy on the internet, it was high on the genius charts during release week) - but the upbeat songs on this album are definitely my favorite! Here's my ranking: 1. bad idea right? 2. ballad of a homeschooled girl 3. get him back 4. love is embarrassing 5. the grudge 6. making the bed 7. all american bitch 8. vampire 9. logical 10. pretty isn't pretty 11. teenage dream 12. lacy
sorry this video is a little unhinged haha
leave your guts ratings in the comments! 🦋
