i-D Meets: London's Rising Fashion Stars | i-D Future Now!

- Enter the weird and wonderful worlds of four CSM grads turned fashion’s brightest young things. Step inside Istanbul-born, London-based rebel Dilara Findikoglu’s cabinet of curiosities, rub a wishing stone with Rottingdean Bazaar’s James Theseus Buck and Luke Brooks, and peer into designer, illustrator and make-up maestro Matty Bovan’s kaleidoscopic diary of everyday outfits. Shaking up the capital’s fashion scene from afar, each designer is a non-compromising, multi-tasking collaborator of the creative resistance.
During this time of socio-political uncertainty, their journeys remind us of the importance of being brave, breaking rules and delighting in difference - defying expectations and fighting for what you believe in.

DILARA IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL NAME WTH
D3cenza it's a turkish name it means "lover"
Artun Küçükyumuk wow
sounds like dilation
Its a pretty common name here in turkey actually.
Its a pretty common name here acutally.
I forgot how creative fashion can be. I wish the mainstream magazines had more edgy stuff like this. That might be asking for a contradiction...
Or people just do it because they like it? wth
even fashion mags are so much edgier than actual square fashion you can buy at the store
I'm a guy but whenever I see a vogue or a W magazine while waiting in a salon, I always pick it up
It's so fun to taste a world where people are not afraid to wear what they want
sadly I think the majority of people want to wear... what everyone else is wearing, they are the cage
Edgy doesn’t sell 🙈
@@maxhooper4319 I assure you every piece of work had loads of research and development and every piece had a meaning or reason. You just couldn't see it. The reason this is not mainstream fashion is that they were never intended for mainstream audiences. The top designers rarely design for your average person. Fashion is wearable art, its as simple as that. It only needs to be as functional/usable as a framed painting. Neither Dazed or i-D target mainstream audiences like yourself too. Your comment undermines the effort and skill many artists and designers, from photographers, makeup artists, set designers, stylists, and many more, put into their craft. There's a reason why Central Saint Martins is harder to get into than some of the world's top universities.
Luke Sciberras it was three years ago man perspectives can change dramatically in that time so why even both with a reply
Its sooo amazing to see a turkish designer, she is gorgeous!
+Oyku: Ohhh, it's quite sad to read (FROM an obviously [...your UserName...!] Turkish PERSON) that it should be, in some way, a "rarity" to see a Turkish Designer...!! There MUST be More....NO?!? [(: / ] You're SO Right about Dilara, though; she Truly IS...!!! [(; D]
alexys q what...
if you're reading this, consider staying away from the comment section and consciously ignoring the negativity down there.
randomtrucks I don't even see it...
A helpful tip : Just enable restriction mode in the settings
randomtrucks Duly noted, thanks
thank you.
Nah, I'll keep reading, because I don't mind opinions which are different from my own.
Dilara is such a beautiful person, such a pretty face, such a talent. proud of you girl.
She’s well known now thank god
The talent is so unreal in all of them, love the idea of using real flowers as a print on fabric and making it hand washable, fucking awesome 👌🏾
JordieXblu yo it's not talent, they're just playing shit design.. I mean why do u think Christian dior became successful..
Just brought one of those sweatshirts from them with real flowers and the details on this piece is fucking amazing
+Lysets vokter: so, just WHAT, then, constitutes "talent", for you...? Le Monsieur Dior became successful, one must remember, at a time when there was, yet, an Enormous amount of "uncharted territory & unplumbed depths" in Fashion...So MANY ideas & concepts, as-of-yet (at the time), totally untried...unattempted...un-"dared" &, "un-risked" (...etc...!). In These, current, times, fashion (..."Fashion"...) has, pretty much, "been there/done that/shown-it-all" (...again, etc...!), to the point where one truly DOES need to 'push the envelope', if one Is GOING to make an effort to BE "original"; wouldn't you say....??!
Wait that was the technique Dior used for their recent collection :o
I love Dior.
dilara is so gorgeous and unique
Oh my god Dilara's English accent is so good it took me a while to hear that she didn't grow up there.
very interesting designs though i would not wear them personlly. but i really appreciate designers who design "uncommon" clothes. makes fashion more interesting
I like Matty's hair colour:)
I wanna become a fashion icon. High key tryna challenge social norms and really express myself.
Inside Aj Austin Keep at it!! I completely agree and understand 💓💓
Inside Aj Austin challenging social norms has become so mundane and over played , how about a new concept my designer ex proposed; hyper normality
so awesome!!! good luck with your dream
Tryna is a first name.
Do it!! I wanna do it too. It's so hard though because I've kinda set myself in a normal stereotype because all I wear is jeans and sweatshirts but I really love fashion but I don't know where to start. One day I'm just gonna do it. I think the first step is not caring about what others think and just going for it!!
Plum Bovan is FABULOUS! Also love Dilara's aesthetic and drive
the girls style is so cool
Which one? would if they both identity as girls. 🤔
All designers are lovely people with amazing work, but James Theseus Buck and Luke Brooks are something. I haven't felt so inspired by clothes for a long time. Now I need that T-shirt with stockings application.
there’s so much creativity in what they do it continues to amaze me
the designers profiled were clever and creative but jesus christ could you please find some talent to represent outside of the privileged glut of london creatives? i know its harder cause your team probably all went to uni with the people featured but christ, there are things happening in manchester and birmingham and leeds too and its all shamefully being ignored. no wonder the comments are full of people frustrated by this kind of east london posturing.
thank you
so true...
True but not true, I went to CSM and i'm from birmingham and the people in London just have this energy about them that makes them so appealing. And their weirdness and creativity is more groundbreaking than when you visit northern uni's, they are good, but quite predictable. I don't know, I can't say for all, there'll always be the hidden gem, but the majority do not compare.
CHINA DETHCRASH such a great idea, I would love to discover talents from elsewhere!!!!
Sure thing can you send a few examples?
Every time I see how messed up the world is... every time I feel like it wouldn't matter if the world ended tomorrow; I watch this. Because it reminds me of how world DOES have a hope, how people can change and how maybe this generation is going to a good place. That's when I remember, that's when I feel glad that I'm alive
they are all so cool can i be like them?
Petra Kawaii lol 😂
I agree, I wish I was like them too (sarc)
Hoggy I admire them because they admit that kind of stuff. I don't have strange fetishes or stuff like that, but i know i will never show other people what i like/want to wear/ i'm talented at, because i'm too afraid of people judging me. That's why i said i want to be like them. I want to be proud of myself.
Petra Kawaii I love the patterns Matty wears and works with. Passion and fascination are cool, so if you have those, you're probably pretty cool!
Katie Greatness thank you sm! i just think people don't see the true 'me' so i really have a lot of work to do to just come out of my shell. i only show myself when i'm alone, so i guess no one really knows me. and thank you for that wonderful response
This is honestly one of the most beautiful videos I've seen in a while..
You need to get out more then
I'm from Turkey too . Heralde milyonda birsin Dilara .Başarılar diliyorum. 💕
matty reminds me of david bowie..
Leah cs I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING!!
Thankyou for this little piece of just a little bit of the talent in the world. We can't fit everyone into one show. So it was nice to focus on these people and I hope more designers will get their chance on screen.. few do .. ever.
I was massively inspired to continue my own efforts & thanks for posting this :))
Excellent video. Keep it up!
I LOVE DILARA!!! YOURE MAKING TURKEY VERY PROUD!!!
Matty Bovan has a really interesting style
This is what fashion always needs. CREATIVITY. Most fashion is boring. I love to see those take chances, do what they want, and fuck what others think. Boring clothes will never be remembered.
"because i hate real life" me
Love this ! Went to Matty Bovan show the other day ! Best experience ever xxxx
Dilara is so pretty and her accent is spot on! I'm so happy to see a Turkish designer
The fact that Matty is teaching at my uni and I had no idea that he’s in fact recognized by both the media and the fashion industry 🤦♀️
I want his clothes
I like that there is still hope for fashion because fashion is the way we express our personality and not being the mass produce clothing like what many big brands are doing nowadays which lack of personality and emotion😊.
It's simple; I see Jefree Star, I click
Spymooping Ovaltine thats not jeffree star
I don't see Jeffree Star anywhere...?
Tf
He was joking r/wooosh to everyone
Sistah Dilara makes me proud and happy, love you girl keep rocking those reds, kisses from Turkey
As bayrakları as yazdıktan sonra bu yorumu görmek
Matty looks like a JoJo character
i love this channel and the magazine. I wish the whole world would be like this
how they afford these big ticket models?
rich parents
Paid for by Fashion East who support young designers.
looks like you just got to go to the salvation army and cut of dresses and make one. also when you put them together take some acid or lsd.
Matty is so beautiful, he looks like an anime star.
Matty Bovan is gorgeous!
this inspires me alot to expand creativity and even achieving the goal of being a fashion designer, i love thiiis
They were all amazing and pure talented peeps!
Spinning and spinning around. I love red too.
I really enjoyed watching this even though I really dislike fashion. This won me over! ♥
Ohhh...! All i can really say is, that....i LOOOVVVVVED This!!!!! And am now QUITE Addicted, TO *i-D* ...having Only JUST "discovered", and subscribed TO, It...! As very "globalised" as The World may (...or, may NOT...?!) appear, at least, (to be) becoming, i suppose i do, tragically, frequently lose sight of (...Forget...!!) just how, really, VERY "special" & Unique +The LNDN+ (and, England) IS...in SO Many ways; NOT (at all) LEAST of which is its amazing "sense of style", creativity, diversity (in, truly, EVERY sense of the word) and, Open-Mindedness/"Accepting-ness" (to a great degree, at least...especially in comparison to/with "The Rest" of the World)! Cheesy as it might sound, it DOES serve to encourage one To BE Proud...OF London...England...Britain/The UK....and, of Ourselves: those who ARE "All of the Above"...Who MAKE It (Be) what It IS...! (...No Fear, though; am Not ABOUT to start Belting-Out, with (Any SORT of rendition, of) *GSTQ* [(; D]...!!!)
the main thing is to do something so weird that nobody could not understand, and then all of theese "nobodies" will say something like "you just suck at fashion"
Dilara is so cool, i'm in love with her style! ♡
Dilara Fındıkoğlu🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷
Very interesting documentary. Thank you!
I LOVE this quality content. Thank you.
so gorgeous. I miss old NYC for fashion :(
My cityyyyyyy, sorry I get a little hyped when I see London.
I love these people; all so unique and courageous in their practices ;)
Oh cummon, 'courageous?'
Lovely human with the pastel hair is gorgeous!!
They are brilliants... 💎✨
The guy with pink hair reminds of Vivian Westwood
Dilara fındıkoglu ☠️🌹🖤
Matty is so interesting to listen to!!
The pink haired guy/lady actually had good style
okay MATT BOVANS MOTHER!! I see why he is a fashion designer
No dis to the people but they are all very priveledged and lucky , thats not to say their work isnt good, its just sad that now only the lucky and financially secure get to follow their dreams now, feel bad 4 da yoof today :(
More of these pls, plus CSM is my dream uni
Elisa Benaggoune probably an effect applied to the videos post production.
cometome255 Thankyou !!! 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Talented Artist's ☺👍👏❤❤❤
Amazing 😊❤

I'M PROUD OF YOU FROM TURKEY
"I hate real life" me too Dilara! Such an inspiring young Turkish lady
Dilara really great designer very inspiring
Very interesting video and Adwoa was the cherry on top.
great, super creatives ★
hi nadiaaaaaa
Dilara 🤘🏻
I love Matt so much
Matty Bovan reminds me of Anasui from JoJo's bizarre adventure
You're very talented!!
Gorgeous!!!
one second of adowa aboah was enough for me
adwoa*
the fine line between ridiculous and cool.........you choose
dilara
Brilliant people!
Wow!
Dilara is super sexy and I'm in love with her clothes (the blue jean jacket : I want it so bad)
Matty's hair are gorgeous! I used to have mine the same color ;)
I think everyday fashion is lacking of fun and colors (like what we see in this video), in France if it's not black blue white or grey everybody will juge you, it's super annoying
really? I live in France and have had a completely different experience- sure, most people aren't very adventurous with their outfits but many people at my school (including myself) wear bright, sometimes neon colors and pretty bold pieces. I don't live in Paris, btw
Seeing this makes me really miss Leigh Bowery... how would the art and fashion world look like without HIV?
Cool new perspectives! Someone knows how is the ending song called?
Dilara beautiful mind beautiful work...
@3:46 Human exploration and colonization of Mars can begin as soon as the 20s and 30s... that's probably the most "interesting and magical stuff" happening in the near future. And the new world will want fashion, too ;)
They’re gonna be the next JPG / Vivienne Westwood / McQueen and maybe Anna Wintour and I’m here watching TH-cam
The Turkish girl is truly amazing. I have to get of America.
HELAL OLSUN DİLARA
kari seytana tapiyor taptiriyo sen neden bahsediyosun
As bayrakları as🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷
As bayrakları as as as 🇹🇷🇹🇷
Matty looks like a Jojo character in real life and it's amazing
I'd like to think i could be in their position but unfortunately i'm not privileged
Yeah you can , put the effort in!
I do though, I have days where i can''t even eat or sleep because all my time and money is going towards my work, literally nowadays it's all about who you know rather than what you know. you could say "well get to know them" but it's not as easy as it sounds. I am actually proud of what iv'e managed to achieve considering my backstory and even current life situation,
our generation of chipped shoulders
our generation of fucked up parents and inequality
Don't give up on your aspiration! In the end, it's not the money that matter, it's the talent. There will always be people from influential or rich families, but in the end, quality and originality always set themselves apart from the rest.
dilara is stunning
That intro goes hard af
How they are styled like how we grew up is Creepy
matty is a babe
does anyone know their instagrams or anywhere else to see more of them?
Just search up their name and it should pop up
Yes we should be visually not a point to hurt my eyes
Iv wanted to be a fashion model all my life but I always hear your too short , your too dark, too weird, your not skinny etc but I know what I want and I’m going to make it happen
Is there anyway to pay there clothing ?
Does anyone know the name of the music composition in the begining? Please help, I want it so bad!
