Love this series so far, looking forward to seeing how it comes together. I'm also in Melb and have a LWB Diesel, giving me a few ideas!

As soon as this engine loom comes back she’s pretty much ready to go, videos are about a week behind my pace at the moment, as of today I’m still waiting for the stand alone loom and boy oh boy am I hanging out for it

why not using the Montero V6 engine?

    • @yehawwww
      @yehawwww  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I could have, but would have needed to change gearbox and both diffs and driveshafts to make it work ratio wise and bolt pattern wise, this was just so easy in the scheme of time and money

      Hey mate
      Recal decals
He has an assortment, but can also do custom ones if you send the oem exploded diagrams off megazip parts, he can pretty much replicate any design you like
His also a great bloke too

We have had Pajero s since 1985. I personally have exe 89 lwb , exe JDM swb , 92 GLS swb, V6, 92 GLS lwb , 94 ,GLS, 95 sports pk dohc manual, 95 GLS lwb , 95 lwb diesel 2.8 commercial I will be cutting the back off to make a ute/ fire appliance given it has leaf springs , rear diff lock . A 99 escape nl and a nm exceed with 485000 km . My mother has a show room 1992 exe with 385k used daily and never been off road . It was possiblity the last exe sold in Australia special ordered because diesel hadnt been released in the new shape. My exe would make my mum's envious of its story's of what it has done. I don't get why you would use a crappy Holden Commodore engine when the 6g74/75 are available easy to convert to paj ex magna and the belhousing is mitsi factory . You can take them out to around 4.2ltrs , mix n match internals especially for boost. And 4 bolt bottom end. The Mitsubishi share same diameter pistons as Chrysler hemi 265,318,360 mitsi 4d56t( great piston rod combo and potential ,just stick in a lathe) 6g72 6g74 , 4g54. Many like S2 V6 pistons or triton pistons . The engines like boost and cheap to mix n match parts for desired uses.
I have run my original swb ARB alloy bull bar and ARB fibreglass flairs on 3 of my early pajeros even to this day. The flairs allows 95 GLS alloys on a 89 exe .
Another tip for Pajero owners there is a filter n check valve behind the left hand rear wheel , it has a cover plate this gets blocked and will LEED to your fuel tank sucking in , symptoms you run out of fuel but I still have quarter to half.full. to fix just add compressed air gently and clean filter check valve assemblies.
Another good modification is to use 92-99 Pajero battery tray in an early pajeros. Only needs a light dolly and bolt it in. It's great for a big fridge battery.
Another problem with early pajeros is the cowl panel air vent the spring rust out or weakens and air pressure will over power the vent- this pissed my Mrs off over two pajs till I fixed it.
Over all I prefer my Pajero especially cause with a bad back the suspension seats help heaps. My other 4x4 is a v10

      Some awesome information here!!
The ARB flares are extremely hard to find.
As for the engine, I did it because it’s extremely cheap and easy to replace, with only 68xxx on the engine it’s practically brand new and will give 300xxx before ever needing anything, specially being on a standalone loom with reduced sensors and sensitivity. Plus parts are Australia wide and everywhere which is what I need for long range adventures. I’ve just scored a long range fuel tank for my swb which will bring me up to 110L onboard fuel plus 2 x 20L jerry cans.
Desperately need to rebuild the gearbox though

@@yehawwww I get the GM service ability. See if you can find the factory Gerry can holder may be an ARB options. Long range tank s are good but have an ability to pump it out when not in use. Also use a super wagon tank they are 82 litres over the lower shortys70? . I have a spare set of ARB flairs my mate who has a 88 shorty in Adelaide will be making molds up to make more or repaur others cause you do damage them. Did you get the rear passengers l&r consul next the the seat and windows. ? I'm making a mini fridge cooler in mine for the JDM 89swb. Also all pajeros after mid 1988 were all galvanised so won't rust like early ones . So use late model doors and repair section s. With swb you can only use the suspension seat on the drivers. Due to being a flip seat for passenger s.. also put a little Dyna mat insulation on the under side of the roof this takes out some road drumming noise . JDM rear rails are longer and rear bars are different. I like the exe rear bar with swb ends , this allows a Hayman Reese toe bar bracket and another central pulling loop good for really off road recovery, provides a second angle. As for the gear box ditch the baby 4cylinder box go for the V6 canter truck style box has a heavy steel case bigger bearings . Then add the 92-super select transfer with centre diff lock. I also retain manual.front hubs , because in traffic I can just go low range and crawl saving the clutch. The super select will also give it an AWD abilities on wet roads. It's great to finally see SWB pajeros being taken up they are so practical and capable . Let me know when you do the border track
