Great video! I've been trying to build a freelancing career for a few years and seemed to be going about it the wrong way. Your video has inspired me to go a different route for finding clients. Thank you!
This was excellent, Colleen. You've combined substantive, actionable advice with some very nuanced topics such as the feelings this process can bring up in a person. Thank you!
So many established freelancers recommend cold pitching for people just starting out (I've even used your template for it), but I've seen no results from it. I'm sure I'm not the only person who hits this roadblock, though I wish it was easier to figure out what I'm missing lol. I wasn't expecting success immediately, but I was expecting maybe a response or two -- yet I got nothing positive and only 1-2 nos. Love your videos & resources though, so I'll definitely have to look through them again to see if there's something I'm not doing quite right!
Hey! Could be something with your portfolio or how you're finding clients. If you're open to it, we could set up a coaching call to figure out the issue: www.thefreelancewritersguide.com/freelance-business-coaching-calls
@@maramalamir2166 I actually stopped cold pitching. I realized it wasn't serving me in any meaningful way, and just made me stressed out. But that's just my personal experience-I know cold pitching has worked well for many freelancers (:
Hello~ I'll be trying out the steps in this video! So many of the mistakes you mentioned were all stuff I've already done (perpetual blogger syndrome). I'm also wanting to go into freelance so I can focus on my music/entertainment career
hi colleen, i love your content! i’m still trying to choose my niche and i’m thinking self-care because i’m super interested in spirituality, mental health, healthy habits and productivity but im not sure if that’s specific enough, (i would write for entertainment and learning purposes.)
I’m actually building a personal brand that will layer several different “niches” that all end up relating to each other in order to be successful overall. The first thing I’m going to be blogging about is: productivity. mostly because I feel like productivity, hacks are constantly changing and evolving, and people are always thinking about ways to be productive, so that they can take on other things in their life to let’s say, make more money or even to be more productive to end up working less hours. The whole idea is I have 3 Content Pillars. I will blog about each one first to get some articles going… That way as I discussed, the other content pillars I can reference back to my first one. And because they are all intertwined, at some point, as I create more content, especially when I create TH-cam videos, I will easily be able to reference my own articles on the various pillars. This is why in my blogging Johnny, I’m more about building a Personal Brand, so that at any point, I can pivot and talk about other things that I love so I’m not sticking to one niche website Also, my overall brand is intended to spill into my TH-cam channel, hoping to get brand deals, eventually do an online course. So I am taking a personal brand route basically to blogging.
There just something about you that i really like your personality.. I subscribe to your channel on the first video i watched. Also im interested to learn more about how to write for the beauty industry.
Hi there, I'm JeJe. I am seeking a reputable firm similar to Colleens. I've encountered numerous expensive and untrustworthy firms offering minimal results. Having worked as a journalist for 27 years, I specialized in covering law enforcement agencies. My ability to keep my sources confidential consistently earned me front-page coverage. I'm keen to understand your selection process for Colleens' firm. You are entirely confidential and autonomous. This past 18 months, I had my mom, my stepmom, two of my brothers and sister, my brother-in-law, and my best friend from university all passed away. I have been in the wrong spot, to say the least, and finally yelled that I am not taking up my father 24 seven. I'm returning to my writing, and I know how to write; I am enormous at doing marketing and just frankly excited and scared to death, all in the same breath. Wisdom would be would be greatly appreciated. Wishing you continued success and good health. You can reach me a on Fakebook, my Instagram. My name is Jeannette Quinton (my frriends call me JE JE
Since this is more about copywriting, quick question - How did you learn copywriting from? How can a beginner figure out what form of copy should one write? I have been struggling to even get blog writing projects since last 16 months. All I've had is just one Upwork project. Had 5 star rating and great review but phew no second client so far in months. Even Facebook groups seem to have become a race to the bottom. Therefore please could you help. Thanks, Colleen.
Hi! Do we need to cite our sources for what we write? Such as if we were writing about politics, or something relevant, and we needed to get more information than what we already knew.
Please ,what is lotion, and how can I get the videa that teaches how to put punctuation ,etc in my pitches, thanks so much for the video,i will have to pick my nitches and start writing
This is an awesome jumping off point, thank you for sharing your insights! Is there another way to access your free cold pitching kit? I'm not having any luck with the links on your site. Ty!🙏🏾
Im wanting to get into this with no experience and went to write Spec peices (though call them Mock Articles) to have something....glad to hear thats a valid option for beginners
Hey Colleen thanks for the awesome content :) I'm curious to know your thoughts on having more than one niche - 2, tops 3. In your experience, is this profitable?
What do you think about the mental health and wellness industry for copywriting? Potential clients could be therapists or psychologists looking for content/copy to promote their service or educate potential patients/people? I’m not sure :/ but I am passionate about mental health
Typically, therapists and psychologists don't have very big marketing budgets. I think wellness could be more profitable. But you never know unless you try!
what do you think about completely AI generated but obviously edited and optimized for SEO content, is there any opportunity for that, and how much to charge for that?
IDK...all the AI generated content I've seen is super generic and boring. Editing it to make it more interesting would require such extensive rewrites that it's not really worth it. That being said, you never know unless you try! It's a whole new world with AI really
I cover that in this video! I also have a few other videos about portfolio: th-cam.com/video/1enLq_Ubnzs/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/De-az3xELDo/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/SpQrQ47KfgE/w-d-xo.html
So I listen to you while I crochet. Writing for a living has been my dream since my early 20s but I could never make it work. When you said to search your niche and "write for us" I dropped everything and did that. I got many hits! My niche is mental health/ drug and alcohol and I'm a Certified Recovery Specialist. I've been working in the field for 5 years but dont hold a degree. Im working on a creative writing degree. Do you recommend I continue a degree in my niche or with creative writing? Does it matter?
I'm one of the crazies that got super excited in class when the teacher said we had to write a 10-page essay for our final, lol
Hahaha that's a good thing if you want to be a writer!
Me too😂

You're so right about it being triggering. Why the hell would anyone pay me for this....? But yeah, do it anyway.
And now I'm going through it all again while transitioning into yet another career!
