Because of your encouragement Karen, I just used Fed-Ex for the first time to ship out a heavy set of plates that I sold on eBay. I couldn’t cushion the edges in a large flat rate so, it was time to learn how to ship through Fed-Ex. The drop off was easy, as I went right by it on my way home from an appointment. The cost was a huge savings!
Plaid Paisley I believe it was around $40. With eBay discount to ship USPS priority ( it was something like $50.00 with out the eBay discount) at FedEx is was just under $19.00 ! Pretty sure it was $18.88. As I had to go out to an appointment and went right by the FedEx store, it was not even out of my way. In the future I’ll go thrifting or do errands when I drop off large items. The savings is worth it!
How do you find balance between sourcing and listing for sale? Did you give yourself a schedule or a minimum amount of items you list a day? Would love to see a video of the daily routine or schedule you give yourself to get it all done.
I’m sure this isn’t the only way this can happen but I sometimes buy multiple pairs of shoes I REALLY like when they go on sale and I’ve noticed the colors will sometimes be off from pair to pair so if I get the sets mixed up and wear one from each the color won’t match. I have also noticed this happens if you buy the display shoe and it’s been exposed to a lot of light versus its match which has been sitting in a box. Love your videos, thank you!!
Oh, please, please, DO rush 2020 along! This has got to be one of the worst years I can remember in my 63 years!😱. A never ending pandemic, with too many gone, 😢now brutal and massive west coast wildfires and...let’s just say, a lot of other confusion and chaos. What’s next, a plague of locusts? But watching you Karen, does help keep a positive spin and inspiration going no matter what.🤗Thanks! (Sorry, didn’t mean to be so dark.) And hurry up 2021! It’s simply got to be a better year than 2020!
hi Karen, Sometimes a shoe will be a lighter color if only one shoe was put on display while the other one remained in the box. Hope you have fun in FL!
The top you are wearing at the very beginning is such a gorgeous color on you. You are classy, elegant yet a go-getter not afraid of hard work. HOWEVER...I'm not sure if you are being humble by doing it but you minimize your wisdom and strategy. You truly have a successful method of selecting items to resell.
Love your videos! I'm 60 and my mom said when I was a toddler I would turn all of the tchotchkes over in her Dr's office when she had to take me with her. She asked what I was doing and I said I was looking to she if it was made in Japan. lol Also one day I noticed that my 5 year old grandson who has autism was leaning way over and the cart at Home Goods tapping on things just like I do. It was a proud moment. :)
Aimee Newquist hmmmm, when I took my youngest son to the Dr.’s office with me in the 80’s, he didn’t turn things over but he did leave with self breast exam pamphlets to show the other kids when they got home from school 😳😂
Too many people are labeling things as "creepy," perhaps not realizing they ruin it for someone else. Baby dolls with blinking eyes have been.labeled as creepy without understanding that little children adore them. "Creepy" is overused!
Good to know even Karen has a not so great picking day every once in a while. 😔 It would have been very hard for me to leave that green glass decanter on the shelf. 💚
Karen: in your quest to learn everything, here are some things you might like to know about! * at 9:54 in your video - there was a handmade redware Pottery plate marked ''Dickinson 2014''. You said it was probably a student piece. I think it might have been something good... ! Dickinson College is a liberal arts school in Carlisle, PA, with a very interesting history. I Googled ''Pottery plate Dickinson 2014'' and came up with some fairly obscure scholarly writings on the decoration of Pottery by the indigenous peoples of the South American continent. It only whetted my curiosity to find out more information! Dickinson College has both an archaeology and anthropology major, as well as a Ceramics major. Perhaps more could be learned by taking the plate physically to Dickinson College, but since you didn't pick it up, that's actually a moot point! (Didn't the tiniest little night light go off in your brain when you looked at that plate?🤔 You even read off the mark on the back!) moving right along... * at 25:58 in your video - the object that you were attracted to is a green glass Blenko decanter with a teardrop stopper. Very collectable, brings about $45 to $50 plus... * at 28:02 in your video - the primary use of Hair Receivers was to gather hair from Milady's combs and brushes and use it to enhance her coiffure. (A secondary use might be for crafts.) Hair Receivers are beautiful little dresser jars that were designed for the sole purpose of receiving hair. Victorian women would gather the hair from their brushes and combs, roll it up and push it into the little hole in the lid. When enough hair was saved up, it was rolled into a larger ball, stuffed into a hairnet, and sewn shut to create a "ratt", an ingenious way to use one's own hair to create lift or filling for a bun or roll thus giving the illusion of fabulous volume. Hair was also used as stuffing for pincushions (oils from hair made great lubricant for pins), pillows, or woven into small pieces of jewelry. Karen, I enjoy your videos enormously, and learn so much from them! Maybe some of what I have written will help you - I certainly hope that the information is beneficial! XO
My mother belonged to Home Bureau back in the later fifties. One of the crafts they did was to paint a letter bin like the one you purchased at the beginning of the video
What a great video, awesome, Karen! Oh man, I just scored some amazing stuff from a Goodwill. I'll probably make a video. The stuff here, in then SW is way, way different, and priceyer (it cost's more), however, it's like Californians are dropping their wealth on their way East. I spent $16 and I just peeked, I could sell right now $500 at least, but I will hold tight. Thank you again for sharing your new knowledge. (ie: I bought a $2 basket I never would have, but only because it looks like it was had made here in the SouthWest.) Keep on!
Karen, I love your videos. I learn something new from every one. I am getting ready to watch your "Unpopular Thrift Stores" again right now. Take care on your trip, have fun, be safe and have a Blessed Day! Bcrow4
Can’t wait to see your haul from this (especially the clothes and shoes). I’m learning new brands from you so, the more times you repeat the names, the more likely I am to remember it when I’m out thrifting :)
In this video to passed up Alfred Dunner you called it a no name.I just wanted you to know that Alfred Dunner is not only very nice quality but also expensive. A nice sweater can run $58.00 retail and add skirt or pants for another $65.00 or more. Not criticizing just hate to see you not pick it up.Love your channel and I have a sweater I got from you and love it!
I buy mugs also, but I’m cutting way back. I’ve got plenty at home in a death pile just waiting to be listed. Right now I am only allowing myself to buy really special mugs. Happy sourcing Karen!!!!
first of all I wish that you had picked up the wooden painted tray and the other thing is I wish that when you find the metal tole trays with the painting on the front I wish that you would pick them up. I would purchase them because I have many in my house I just think that they are gorgeous and an easy piece to put on the wall to decorate with. In fact I am sitting with one right beside me and I'll see whether I can take a picture of it a:nd send it to you
I have a few I need to list but I never know what to price them at! Also shipping is going to be expensive, but what else is new. May I ask how much you typically expect to spend on a tole tray? I agree, they are beautiful & an easy way to add color & charm to any room!
Very smart on your part....to be picky.!!! Looking for unusual items off good quality, will pay off . 😊Your buyers appreciate it .They will not hesitate to purchase from you again and again..😄😃
Love the Lavender on your table and your T-shirt and smaller earrings..you look great this way too!! Oh...that Piggy Bank was similar to mine...it had a plug that desintigrated in a weird way...got gummy...lol..too much of a metaphor for the leaner years...lol...Beautiful trip as well as education..thank you.
Trying to figure out what you're referring to-- do you have a timecode? Taste Setter is a brand? There are soo many patterns, do you recognize them all? Or just a few of the most common/popular ones? www.replacements.com/china-taste-setter/b/001-801246
Sometimes there's sketchy people at thrift stores. If you ever need to defend yourself use mace and a kick in the groin. That can get a guy down 15 min.
That Mt. Joy store is where my girl "Homestead Tessie" shops with her two daughters! Maybe you will run into her sometime. She has a youtube channel. Check her channel out! You might be neighbors!!!! : )
I bring twitters with me and sit down and go through any shoes I am interested in. If I am able to remove those awful stickers without damaging the inside then I buy I,nifnit remives the lining theni goes back. I don’t get why the prices do that. Doesn’t make sense.
Just curious...when u come back from Florida, do u have to quarantine ? I know the tri-state area has this in place..I'm wondering if PA is doing this too
When searching on eBay, click the "advanced" option, then select "sold" to see what has sold recently. On desktop it's to the right of the search bar in little text that's easy to overlook. On the phone app, the sold option is under "filter" which is at the top right, or if you scroll down through the search results, it pops up at the bottom, too.
Pretty melmac dishes are making a come back, for seniors. Nice and light to pull down from cupboards, for older arthritic hands. Stay safe in Florida, will you have to quarantine in your return?
Girl I love what you have to say but the videos are so long. Not trying to be critical just saying I would watch more and subscribe if they were in shorter segments. Just my opinion..not trying to be hurtful. Thanks so much.

Can you do a video on how you prepare clothes once you arrive home from the thrift? Please and thank you.

Karen, you have such a beautiful voice. I could listen to you all day. You could be a book reader!🙃
I love selling clothes too! I hope you post more clothing hauls!

You're a good researcher! Sometimes when I watch these videos I will go research things too.
I would have picked up the Pyrex butter on the shelf beside the dish from India. My Mom had that one in the day.
My mother belonged to Home Bureau back in the later fifties. One of the crafts they did was to paint a letter bin like the one you purchased at the beginning of the video

Thank you for this educational video. I love listening to your voice. You could make some soft-spoken ASMR relaxation videos on thrifting.
Who buys the Amish dresses. The Amish. When you said that I was shocked. That would be the last item I would think would sell.

That wasn't a part of a bird feeder, it's a ladle, probably came with a big bowl. Russian Khokhloma folk painting.
Thanks for the info. As soon as that bird ladle came into view, I thought it was of Russian origin. I appreciate your sharing the knowledge.
The vintage tin with the ship painting would have been part of a PBN (paint by numbers) kit. Goebel pronounced go-bell.
tristate pickermom She pronounced it perfectly.

UNLESS YOU WERE TAKING THE BIG BUNNY TO FLORIDA WITH YOU , WHY NOT GET IT TO TAKE HOME AND LIST LATER WHEN YOU RETURN ?
off the beaten trail ... i had a few pair of these
The prices in the second store was better then my goodwill.
Have you tried heating the sticky labels with a hair dryer first then peel them off? It helps sometimes.
I just love your videos. You teach me so much. Thanks for the inspiration! Peggy
Oh those Chacos!!!
at 3:25 that little old timey looking truck bank was cute, i would of got it
That Mt. Joy store is where my girl "Homestead Tessie" shops with her two daughters! Maybe you will run into her sometime. She has a youtube channel. Check her channel out! You might be neighbors!!!! : )

P.S. What box do you use for large trays? Or do you cut/ make your own? I’ve seen some nice ones lately, but passed because of questioning this. 🤓
I guess that makes me third 😂
Loved the pig.
WASNT THAT AN EEL SKIN COIN PURSE YOU PASSED UP...THOSE USED GO FOR GOOD $$
I bring twitters with me and sit down and go through any shoes I am interested in. If I am able to remove those awful stickers without damaging the inside then I buy I,nifnit remives the lining theni goes back. I don’t get why the prices do that. Doesn’t make sense.
I would have purchased the wooden valet stand.
Karen: "I didn't want to pick up too many breakables today".
Karen: Picks up a large vase and a Fermage cheese dish.

Do you wash the clothing you purchase?
MEN buy the pantyhose! 😬
Was trying to be first!! 😂 Maybe next time!!
Love your videos! How do you find comps on EBay? I usually only google search.

Donna Wheeler Thank you! I was also trying to see sold items on eBay!
Happy to help. I figured Karen would be en route to Florida!
Don't leave the Chacco's!
Do you find that you're selling more comfy clothes right now than pre-covid?
That's a great question!
No, more hardgoods are selling 😁
There was an angel under the clown I would of picked up.
YOU SAID YOU LIKED THE LIMOGES TRINKET DISH FOR 2.50 , SO DID YOU GET THEM ?

No, I’ve gotten so used to my system 😂
Pretty melmac dishes are making a come back, for seniors. Nice and light to pull down from cupboards, for older arthritic hands.
