That originally wasn't the name. Players got confused because the objective said to Ollie the magic bum. As in jump over the magic bum. But people just read it as his name Ollie the Magic Bum and it sort of stuck

correct, he appeared first in THPS2 in the Venice level where you have to ollie over him. Not sure if they intended the name Ollie in thps2 tho or if the community just ran with it.
The level of detail here is astounding. You can see at 2:48 they've put seams on the the shoes and jeans, even though under circumstances the player would never get anywhere close enough to tell. The fact that technology has got to a point where including this much texture detail is viable makes me really happy.
Rats are friends, Shesez. I used to own seven of them-- fun fact, domestic pet rats are actually insanely intelligent and really good pets! They can learn their names, tricks, even how to use a litterbox. One of mine once figured out how a treat-dispensing toy I got him worked, and I watched him just... systematically empty all the treats out, very deliberately. He then hid them all in a pair of my pants I'd left on the floor because I'm a slob.
Your rat friends sound amazing! 🐀🐭💕 While I haven't had any rats myself have I had 2 Tibetan dwarf hamsters. My hamsters loved to drag the cotton out from their houses, pull it over to a corner. @Pinkamena Pie humans destroy the world, make many places unhabitable, and kill others for just some shiny rocks. I don't understand how they are allowed to have a say in how the world should be.
The children drawings are real drawings from one of the devs kid. They said this in a igns devs react to speed run and the shrimp was so detailed because the school’s mascot/team name is the Shrimps. You also forgot to show the squirrel in school 1.
Feels like fucking yesterday I was blown away by visible stitching and rivets in mario's overalls, now we have FULLY RENDERED SOCKS that you dont even see Hell, Zelda still hasn't given us working mirrors as far as I know, except one partially-working one in TP, but this game has a _mirrored interior to a plane you aren't meant to get inside_
6:37 Fun fact that wasn't-t mentioned: Costdownkevin can also be found in the Crash Bandicoot N Sane-Trilogy. Specifically in the 3rd game, _Warped,_ in the Area 51? level, resting on a cactus on the side of the road. It's completely possible to see it in-game without camera hacks provided you know where it is.
Tony Hawk games are so much fun for out of bounds discoveries! The little house inside the lamps are (most likely) caused by reflection probes! These are kind of like skydomes and are applied to metallic or wet surfaces to create an illusion of reflection. This also explains why a puddle of water on the floor in most games has the same reflective image as the scope of a sniper, even if you're in a different area as the whole level uses the same reflection probe!
18:35 That is probably not parallax, but just a normal cubemap. I'm not an expert, but let me explain how i understand it: If perspective of the "reflection" doesn't change, it's just cubemap, and if it moves depending on the camera position, then it's a parallax. And if part of the texture can be in front or behind of other parts of the texture, depending on camera angle, then it's parallax occlusion (which gives off a much better bump effect, then regular old bumpmap, which only affects how different parts of the texture are lit). As for why it got inside the lamps, it's probably something to do with PBR (Physically Based Rendering) materials, e.g. material inside the lamp is set to 100% metallic or something like that, so it has cubemap automatically applied to it. Level/model designers probably never looked inside one in-game themselves )
OMG I never thought of this! I used to go out of bounds in Tony Hawk's Underground a lot when playing online (fight me). These games have so many little neat secrets, it's crazy!
Something I was hoping could be explored is the premier boards. If you get a certain score in a level, you unlock a dynamic board that has what appears to be a tiny version of the level in it. For Warehouse, I think the score you need is 22,500,000 or something crazy. But I was wondering if it is just the parallax effect like those rooms? Or is there more of a world inside of it?
Studio head: Alright guys, if we could have your kids make some drawings, that would be great. Anything will do, it’s just for a background setting. Shesez: And here we have some drawings.
love them rooms with the fake depth! Im a game dev, soon as I saw that I paused it and did the exact same thing in my game where I had empty rooms you cant get into but you can see into them
I can give some slight insight into some of the window art and random dev blocks. In UE4, there are assets you can create called "Decals". These are typically used to add extra detail to flat surfaces for example adding puddles onto streets or in this case, actual Window Decals. More than likely they were adjusting the windows and forgot to move the art slightly so they'd be visible in the playable area. Now that I think about it, they're more than likely textured plane objects that weren't set to two-sided in the material settings. It's should be a quick fix, lol. As for the random under-level dev blocks. You have the option of using a default level when creating maps. The default level contains a single "dev" platform and a few level assets for lighting purposes. The platform is located at coordinates 0,0,0. So unless they moved the platform around, you've basically just found the center of the level. Extra tidbit: The large prism hiding behind the building is most likely there to block lighting from the sun since the building isn't modeled from behind.
...I almost feel like that cat is a reference to that one image of a "found lost cat" sign that has a picture of an Opossum. I know it's not but that's going to forever be my headcanon.
