Wow, it's amazing going back and listening to these old shows. Karl actually talking about things he enjoys and happy times in his life. He even laughs a few times. He always seemed so depressed in the Guide To's and the tv show. Nice to see the more human side of Karl.
I like the fact that at this point in the shows Karl is yet to admit that he was the one who made a hole in the girl's dress. Just says 'someone' did it! Cheeky bastard lol!
I just laughed for an hour straight.! I love how the only thing the kid from his school put about Karl is that he had a pet Magpie and it flew away when he brought it in to show. Incredible.
I think I've listened to all of the podcasts in the past several months, but I love hearing the compilation of all of the childhood bits together. So funny! Thanks so much for taking the time to put all of these together. Absolutely hilarious!
hahaha - I actually remember that windy day in the '70's - coming home from school and my baby brother was in his buggy, my mum told me to hold onto the lampost and my legs actually lifted off the floor!! my mum struggled with the buggy as that was almost blown into the road !!! 100% true I swear !! lol
Thankyou so much for compiling this. I've listened through the podcasts from xfm up to the present multiple times and Karls childhood stories are amongst the best.
Ricky's laugh always cheers me up, no matter what sort of day I'm having. Can't get enough of Karl's anecdotes. Great job on this one. Keep them coming!
I used to listen to XFM show everyday and then start over from the beginning after eventually listening to the last show. There's so many that you can just loop it infinitely. But now I haven't listened to it for almost a year for some reason. Now it's almost like listening to it for the first time. This bliss must be what it's like being senile. :)
So I was listening to this on headphones, paused it and was startled to hear myself laughing out loud. I was laughing so much at this and for so long I actually FORGOT I was laughing.
I love that in the part regarding the family with the horse... Karl starts off by saying "I'm just assuming she stole itm maybe that's wrong of me." to "Yeah she stole it.. I think from some stables." Lmao his line of thought is amazing. He truly believes his own stories! (P.S apologies for paraphrasing... I couldn't be bothered rewinding to quote directly.)
It's funny as hell and Karl has done extremely well out of it. Let's leave it at that? I must admit sometimes it sounds like bullying but I still listen to it every morning!
It's so weird to think that I've spent a lot of my childhood in Porthmadog at the same holiday park where he was saying he went. I think during An Idiot Abroad or something he went back to the caravan park as a one off at the end of the episode or something and he went through all the arcades and stuff which I probably at the time of watching that had been there not a few months or year earlier. Small world. Decent place to go as a kid if you weren't rolling in the money.
Referring to Karl getting into bed and feeling so happy that he's tired and the pillows are cold, I also get really excited about that. You're not alone Karl.
Crying with laughter when he was talking about how much he used to love sleeping ahahahahaha! 'I haven't slept well since I was about.. 12.' TOO MUCH ahahah
Karl's just a very good Northern comedian who never did stand up. Manchester's full of 'em. What gets me is how Ricky balls his head off at material that is nearly the same as Peter Kay material when he has always been so critical of that style of comedy.
karls from salford manchester i live close to salford 10 min walk so most of his crazy chats about the estate he grew up on and his early life are probably all true it's rough as fuck round some salford estates not a place for a soft arse karl is not as stupid as you may think he will have much common knowledge from his upbringing like most of us northerners we ain't posh folk.
Yes the XFM show started September 2001 & "aired in weekly periods for months at a time throughout 2002, 2003, 2004, and mid-2005. In November 2005, Guardian Unlimited offered the show as a podcast series of 12 shows." In 2010 the best shows were adapted to the HBO cartoon of the same name. Look up The Ricky Gervais Show on Wikipedia.
Can't believe Karl was only 30, he talks like he is 43
I prefer this to the podcast. The podcast is so well edited, it sometimes feels like its artificial. The normal Karl is so much funnier.
Couldn't agree more! Not a fan of the TV show either, the cartoons ruin it!
Of course it's artificial. The podcast is just old jokes used in the radio show, but edited better to get only the best bits.
Also the swearing is funny because you know he's breaking rules.
jimmy2k4o
Aw you must be a child. Everyone swears, Jr.
ethanike on radio between 1-3 on a saturday afternoon, mostly to stress karl out, everybody doesn't do that!
Is anyone else only able to picture Karl's mam and dad as they way they are drawn on the Ricky Gervais show animations?
Yes.
Karl Pilkingtons laugh has to be one of the rarest things to witness.
86
He laughed in idiot abroad season 2 when he had to jump off a structure . He also laugh in the Ricky grevias show animated season 2 ep 13 .
*****
He laughs multiple times in this video.
A1Gentleman1Said And in "The Moaning Of Life" as well, we see him genuinely happy and chipper quite a bit.
Billy Gray watch sick of it if you haven’t already, laughs for a whole episode😂
My Grandma can confirm that the winds were indeed bad in the 70s.

At 13:10 when he says "or is that the... no it did get run over" gets me every time hahaha
Ricky: How old were ya?
Karl: 'bout...13..right
Ricky: Really?
Karl: Probably...
Ricky: Yeah?
Karl: 'bout 10, no, about 10 probably...
Ricky: Yeah ..go on..
Karl: 6.
That part about Karl laughing as he went to sleep makes me smile. It is so honest and you can tell how happy it makes him even talking about it.
"A trip round Kellogs" is perfect
I like the fact that at this point in the shows Karl is yet to admit that he was the one who made a hole in the girl's dress. Just says 'someone' did it! Cheeky bastard lol!
smg0is0a0goddess xD
smg0is0a0goddess I was thinking the same thing. In the animated story, he says he put a whole in her dress.
it's possible that the version told in the podcast wasn't true.smg0is0a0goddess
+Kit Palmer or perhaps karl just mis-remembered, like humans do? Jeez
As a kid I was blown across the road by a gust of wind (circa 1977,south London). So Karl was right!
Are you by any chance a carrier bag?
I just laughed for an hour straight.! I love how the only thing the kid from his school put about Karl is that he had a pet Magpie and it flew away when he brought it in to show. Incredible.
CONGRESS TART XD
***** " He's just shoutin' congress tart.."
xD
"Ages ago..." hahahah why does he always start like that. classic

100% true I swear !! lol

Binks you are a fucking legend
Proper crying with laughter.......... just brilliant
I love how Karl still remembers all these things.
I love that in the part regarding the family with the horse... Karl starts off by saying "I'm just assuming she stole itm maybe that's wrong of me." to "Yeah she stole it.. I think from some stables."

I look so crazy when I'm laughing on the bus the the podcasts :')
"black beauty was on" LOL!
It's funny as hell and Karl has done extremely well out of it. Let's leave it at that? I must admit sometimes it sounds like bullying but I still listen to it every morning!
Listen to Karl vs Steve and you’ll see how Karl bullied Steve.
So, so true. I've listened to the podcast on my iPod while in bed even!
It's so weird to think that I've spent a lot of my childhood in Porthmadog at the same holiday park where he was saying he went. Steves reactions to Karl's stuff makes it so much funnier as well
i love how steve says "don't take the mic out of karls hair that's a bit harsh" because he knows that karl will destroy him later lol
Pure comedy gold.
I couldn't decide wether to revise for my test or watch Karl, Ricky and Steve videos on youtube..... I think I made the right decision :-)
1 hour and 9 minutes and 20 seconds well spent sir.
One hour of learnin!
"This is great this, I'm going to sleep" hahahahaha xD
Karl is actually addictive :)
i laughed myself to sleep
Karl never has any idea what age he was in any of his memories haha
Karl's just a very good Northern comedian who never did stand up. Manchester's full of 'em. What gets me is how Ricky balls his head off at material that is nearly the same as Peter Kay material when he has always been so critical of that style of comedy.
thanks
I started this video thinking: 'I'm just going to listen to a few minutes of this'. I ended up listening to it for the entire hour.
lol thank you uploader, just wondering, could you not find a more recent picture of these 2? :D
Ricky's laugh at 24:16. Just cracks me up every time :)
Love it
I never get tired of life according to Karl!
2001 I hadn't a clue who Ricky was. Love hearing this after the fact. :)
I am. This was back in 2010/11 when they had long since gone off the air.
From Series 1, 2nd March 2002

My favorite part is when Karl almost starts laughing, he never does that nowadays hes too pro.
Karl: “so I was walking along this estate”
Ricky: *w h e e z e*
the photo is one one of the publicity shots they did for this original radio show.
"theoretically, he could get called up for jury service" :)
Love the horse story
