    Play is as important for adults as for children. It stimulates the creative juices, relieves stress, regains perspective and is great fun all round.

    You know me, I could write a massive comment on this it proverly will be! I think the railways and model railways tye in really well landscape, you see railways everywhere dis used and used, they are part of the landscape, especially viaducts, railways shaped how we live today, that's where the history comes in, its not small railway history. Nigel summed up so well why railways of interest to many people, its the sane with me.
    Nigel's layout is great, well done to him! I did enjoy this video Richard well done👍👍

    my dad built a railway in our basement, including the wall holder/thingy. open it out, with the legs to keep it level, and there were shelves inside to hold the trains themselves. it was the type that went "round and round" but it was entertaining for my brothers and my sons. he also made buildings (not train related) - there were these "books" of heavy card stock that he would cut out and put together. i think he was like Nigel, enjoying the construction more than playing with them.
    i agree with the others that, yes, this is part of your channel's topic. heritage includes hobbies.
    thank you, Nigel, for showing us your trains. thank you, Richard, for all you do!

      So pleased you enjoyed it. Being in an un-insulated loft space, it gets very cold in winter and very hot in summer, card kits tended to distort and curl up. At work we have a laser cutter, so I have built my main structures out of perspex sheeting to make them last longer.

    OK. . So I saw the title and thought "I'm not sure this is for me!", however; I have to say this was an excellent production. I really enjoyed the format, I thought Nigels passion for the hobby really came through and what a clever link to heritage and history which is at the heart of your channel. Today I'm making reed stem fishing floats with my 6 year old son. Yes he's playing mine craft at the moment ! But I'm convinced that hobbies like these are fundamental to being healthy. It's getting the right balance ?
    Excellent Richard. Thanks Nigel . Atb John.

    Nigel, like you I was bought a model train layout by my parents one Christmas but a few years later I wanted a new bike and wanted to sell the train set to partially fund it, it broke my dads heart as he was much keener on the model railway than I had been. Anyway I left home at the age of 18 and my dad then built himself a new model railway that was installed in my old bedroom and fixed to the wall on one side with hinges that allowed it to be pulled up level with the wall if the room was needed. So this brought back some rather fond memories for me, thanks.

    I model LMS - British Railways, 1930 to 1968, though there are a few LNER locos on the layout too. SWMBO says I've spent to much on the layout, so I added it up reached €4000 decided to stop counting! I'm suprised Nigel, hasn't gone DCC, perhaps that's in the pipeline.

    • @GreenmanXIV
      @GreenmanXIV 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RichardVobes This is true, that's why I've stopped buying new stock. Like most serious modellers there are engines and rolling stock that are still in their boxes waiting to be run and kits waiting to be assembled.

    • @MrNas42
      @MrNas42 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I decided to stay DC early on (so I could run my original 1960s locos) and have ended up with three interconnected circuits. I reckon (buying second hand) I've spent well under £1,000 building a 6 x 2.5 metre layout, which contains some 50 metres length of track (approx 2.6 scale miles). I've stopped buying anymore rolling stock as I've no space left to park it on the layout!

    Its nice to see your interest in Model Railways, however I do believe you have made a mistake you should of done the Backscenes before you built up the foreground, I have a Model Railway in a 14X10 Garden Shed, with Max Board Space and I model in both 00 and 009 NG and its always best to start at the back and work your way forward, otherwise it tends to get really difficult and items are likely to get damaged

    Nigel has been busy! I love a model railway; I had one when I was a kid but it eventually languished as I had other things to do!
    I used to work for someone who had one of the largest collections of the original Hornby OO in the word; he sold much of it but he still had his substantial basement filled with an enormous model railway that ran 10 trains at once!
