After 11 years, your tutorial is still relevant and saved me a lot of time. Really detailed explanation yet very easy to understand.

    Tips to accelerate work:
Whenever you move something, you can rotate the thing while dragging it by clicking the right button.
Also while manually routing you can hit the middle mouse button(wheel) to instantly switch between the layers.
Thanks for the tutorial, I've learned a bit from it!

Jeremy, thanks to your videos I've managed to go from knowing nothing about Arduino and PCB design, to having completed my first Arduino project and moving it into a standalone prototype, all in a space of 3 weeks. I did have the advantage of a lifetime coding in C and C++ to help me, but your videos took a steep learning curve and lowered the barrier to entry significantly.
Thanks for your efforts, they are greatly appreciated.

    Good video for beginners Jeremy.
I am watching your videos to increase the slope of the learning curve as I just bought EagleCad. A little disclaimer: I am a Member of the Technical Staff at a major corporation and have 30,000+ hours experience with PCBs and related SI, PI, , PDN, and the aspect that is the most important, but 1 in 200 EE's actually are competent in: noise reduction/mitigation.
For beginners, follow Jeremy's tricks and tips here. He gives a great tutorial for the newbie. However, as you get more experience start studying up on a little theory on PCB physics. An excellent book to start with is PCB Design for Real-World EMI Control, by Bruce R. Achambeault. Ohh for those that don't think that EMI control is relevant for hobbyist work? Wait until you try to solder a completed Bluetooth module on your hobby board and you scratch your head wondering why its max range is 1.5 feet.
FYI Jeremy. I have instructed every EE and PCB designer in my sector to cease and desist from ever using the autorouter. It is crap and will never produce results as good as a trained human brain can. But for beginners it will probably do a better job than they would, so I understand the use in this video.
One more thing, and I don't mean to be critical, but the industry standard for those yellow lines is "guides", not "airwires". Everytime you called them "airwires" I got a facial tick. LOL
But seriously, nice video for people that have never touched a PCB in their lives. Good video for even well seasoned people like me that use more complex tools such as Mentor Graphics and Cadence Design Suite. Not here to learn routing techniques. Hell, I teach them as part of my job description. I am here to get the quick notes on "Getting Started". I really don't want to spend 2-3 days learning all the nuances of EagleCad, and you have taught this seasoned professional all he needed to know to get up quick on the learning curve in a little over an hour. For that I am grateful.
I tip my hat to you. You will go far and high young man. Indeed.

I agree with the author of the comment below. Thanks for the effort you put into making these video tutorials Jeremy and I have to say that even though I have watched plenty(!) tutorials on the net, yours are easily one of the best of them in both quality, layout and also the easiest to grasp. You do have the rare ability to educate people - even the most ignorant ones. And I do hope that this work of yours will reward you in the future.
    Best wishes from Turkey!

Just something I found out to be very handy if you're doing a big PCB board. The MOV command. Just type in MOV COMPONENT, so example MOV r1. It's going to select the component for you, it saves a lot of time if you're having many components on your board.

this was a great video, thank you for posting it. Id really like to a see a video/tutorial about manual routing tips, do's and don'ts, etc. especially because material on this subject is oddly absent from the internet.
for instance i was practicing manual routing by designing a 741 op amp at the component level and after i was finished i realized it looked pretty goofy and far from professional. an in depth video covering manual routing and design tips would be highly appreciated.

Your tutorials have been my arduino 'Bible' per se. I have learned so much about the platform and the CAD software in very little time. I have a couple neat projects I am trying to finish as one-off christmas presents. One is about the size of the blinky board, while the other may be 6x6 inches. What can I expect to pay to have 2 layer boards produced, and who would you suggest as a manufacturer in the united states. I can't wait for production from overseas.
    Hope to see more tutorials.

Hi Jeremy - First off, thank you for producing such excellent Eagle PCB tutorials. My question for you is why would one not specify the board size prior to moving any components on to it? Not doing so seems to set up the potential to place all the components, route them and then find that the entire circuit does not fit within some board size limit. - Thank you! - Jim

Probably shouldn't run the battery + signal under the holder where the negative terminal of the battery will be connecting to the pad on the board. This relies on the solder mask to insulate the battery case from the signal. Probably the part should have a "keepout" or "restrict" polygon defined to keep from routing traces under there.

When you did the INITIAL autoroute, it was able to make some vias for some of the nets, but it didn't do that one via for the ground, and you had to manually add some VIAs to the ground pour.. Why? I'd have thought it would make at least the minimum 2 ground VIAs automatically, knowing it had to connect the 2 parts of the GND net??

This is a great tutorial, but I found some trouble when you used the polygon to make a ground layer. Thanks for the Eagle tutorials, Jeremy. They helped me a lot in setting up my schematic and board in one night. However, I suspect I've done it wrong. My components are the old through-hole kind, not surface mount. So I think that all the stuff (copper) on my top layer really belongs on the bottom layer. Correct? How do I move the contents of my top layer to the bottom, or must I recreate the board? If I have to recreate the whole board, how do I make it so the copper comes out on the bottom? THANKS. -Marty

I have designed a panel with switches and knobs and LEDs. I want to design a circuit board behind the panel which i will cut with my CNC. What i am trying to find is the panel i have imported as a dxf - there are circles on the which i need to be holes i.e. where switches will come through in some instances and also a gap for an LCD screen etc. How do i make a polygon a hole? Drawing a hole is simple enough but taking a dxf imported shape and making it a hole is a problem.
    i hope that makes sense.
