    Excellent! We finished a school house in South Africa, started to build a community in Nicaragua, and are working on a research facility on Cornell's campus. We have research grants to pursue development of several new technologies.

    Thanks for a very good intro to Eagle! One thing that will speed up your work is to use the right mouse button to rotate the component while moving it. Then you'll never need the rotate tool. If I rememeber rigth it can be use in board layout mode to choose between routing alterntives while manually roting traces.

    Thank you! Some of the UI has changed or is different for Mac, but this tutorial was so helpful. One trick with the Mac - I think right click as you're moving components around will rotate them. Pretty nice!

    Thanks for the tutorial. I'm coming from a software design background and was utterly confused by the way they designed their UX with almost everything being mouse centric and requiring self assigned hotkeys. After watching this video I have an idea of what types of tools in the shelf that I would require and have all assigned them to awkward hotkeys already. Will now keep plowing through the remainder of the tutorials.

    It IS working now. I just didn't understand how to get Eaglecad to recognize that the library was there. It was:(Main menu bar) Library, use, external_lbrs, adafruit.lbr. The "Library" menu item only appears once a project has been loaded. Apparently, one has to use this process each time one opens to program.
    Thanks for you interest.

    Great video.. One thing I thought you were going to mention, is when picking the components for your BoM, if you intend to order from them, you'll want to pay attention to the quantity available, and maybe even price, to make sure you're picking a version of it that they have in stock!

    • @takatamiyagawa5688
      @takatamiyagawa5688 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, holds up pretty well on Eagle 9.6.
      Biggest change seems to be that the Adafruit library should go into the Documents/EAGLE/libraries folder, instead of in the program's install folder.

    CadSoft EAGLE is available on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Labcenter Electronics' Proteus and New Wave Concepts' Livewire are only available for Windows. EAGLE has been around for over 25 years, longer than either of the two companies you mentioned, so CadSoft must be doing something right, despite your opinion!

    Continuing with "---adafruit library wouldn't work--":
    I finally just inserted a copy of that unzipped library file into the Eaglecad lbr folder. It still wouldn't show up when I re-opened the program. I finally found a menu item called "Library" that only shows up when you have a project loaded. I clicked on "use" and selected the adafruit library. Lo and Behold, it works.
    Sorry to bother you. I should be having this conversation with adafruit support. They have been quite helpful so far.

    Can you talk about how to create a heat sink on the PCB layout for some power ICs that require heat sinks in your next videos? Is it simply just several pads close to each other or is there an easier way to do it?

  • @CZghost

    Hey. Today I found out this great tutorial and I have to say that I didn't know what the DesignLink is and what it is used for. It seems very useful. However, I am not USA citizen and I do not live in USA. Will this technique of ordering parts work also in Europe? Because I've actually quite did the opposite. First I looked up parts and then I just built schematic with the found parts online from a local retail store. I live in Czech Republic and one of the biggest electronic parts retail seller is GM Electronics (GME). I guess that they might have most of stuff found in EAGLE library, but I was quite unsuccessful to find particular parts, especially some buttons. I am more into THT because I find it easier to just stick it through the holes and solder it. I prefer bottom side of PCB to wire the connections and only lead straight top wiring where necessary using via pads. The top layer wiring isn't etched, it is in fact wired using a copper wire stuck through the connection holes - I cannot wire it under the parts, so naturally there might not be enough room to fiddle it in.
    As with the blinky LEDs, we used to design the THT PCB in school by hand, and we used PNP transistors for this, not 555 timer. We used 555 timer in later classes for astable flip flop circuits, monostable and bistable, using 0-2 buttons. And we used pre-etched boards with large solder pads made by first years.

      If you're in a schematic and you go up to "Options" menu and then click "Assign" you can assign hot-keys. Click "New" to add a hotkey function or you can change the existing ones. For the "Assign Command" input box you'll have to go back out of the "Assign" window and hover over the command toolbar to see what it's actually called. I assigned the following hotkeys that have been working out for me so far:
      o Info lets you see/edit a lot of stuff (including the name) (CTRL+1)
      o Group (CTRL+2)
      o Move (CTRL+3)
      o Rotate can be accomplished with move and right clicking
      o Copy (CTRL+C)
      o Delete (CTRL+D)
      o Add part (CTRL+A)
      o Smash (to get rid of labels I don’t want) (CTRL+S)
      o Electrical connection (CTRL+E)
      o Bus connection (CTRL+B)
      You'll notice I try to keep everything to the left side of the keyboard and didn't assign all the commands a hotkey.

    Great tut. Although, I've been using Eagle for 2 days and am already frustrated with the difficulty of getting LBR files for serious/high-end components (the chips that actually cost more than $20), which seems fine for a hobbyist using common crappy components to blink LEDs, but for serious sequential designs, wow I cannot find a single LBR for any of the chips I need. FMC LPC lbr anyone? FT600Q lbr? There are missing TI LBRs I could do with as well. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places?

  • @visornet24
    @visornet24 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was searching for 220 microferrat capacitator but I couldn't find it in the libary
    The library is a mess. Normaly you write something and directly it has to find the right component. You type 220. and that must be enough to list all possibilities but it doesn't.
    The most pcb progs are working the same way but none of them has a good library search.. Another issue is, that if there was a component found the componnet will be shown in a black/white schematic, instead of a real photo to choose the right one. Today there is enough space on every HD to list all photos in realtime of all components.

    Really appreciate the video.. Just come back into electronics after some years so no knowledge of smd. You have caps on board, but no spec. The schematic indicates a polarised cap but smd caps are all non-polarised I think (not sure). Rs are simple but from my point of view I would like a little bit more info on smd caps that you choose and what the options are.

    Would you mind letting us know what kind of formal and informal education you have? I basically think I need to have all the same skills you do! Ha!
