Excellent vid and good work man! I need some help myself. I bought a super clean 5 speed 07 outback and i need an engine! Unfortunately all I've been hearing is my options for swaps are very limited. When I was younger I was a honda guy and there was a TON of options lol. What can I do!!??
Excellent video! You are very knowledgeable and well spoken! Is it possible to swap the USDM exhaust cam gears over to the JDM motor to eliminate the AVCS? Or is it better to just leave them unplugged and run with the exhausted AVCS disabled? Thank you for your time!!!
@@RumbleGarageI really like it too. I had good success with swapping to the cam profile of the specific vehicle/ ECU . I also found a usdm valve cover gasket that works perfectly, it is aftermarket from worldpac but it works great. I don't know the part number right now but I can post it up later.

Kind of wondering the same thing . I have a manual legacy gt and got a jdm ej20x with everything intact , debating on swapping manifolds or cam gears or just running it as is . Would like more info on these builds !
The only difference is the turbo on the manual is slightly better I believe and the timing belt covers have metal guides so the belt doesn't pop off during rpm changes if you are using a manual Transmission on the ej20x
@@platinum6978 I've got everything swapped over did not hook up the dual avcs . Getting an e tune from a local to fix the exhaust cam timing . Threw a few tps codes I am going to switch out the pedal . It is running as of now just needs the tune before testing it out , went with a single exhaust sounds great , really a nice little car .

Nothing lately. Been trying to get all the other projects done before I start going ham on it. It's going to be a very big build. One of the nicest I've ever done. I've been collecting parts, and supplies for it. It's definitely not gonna be cheap.

You can get away with using the JDM intake manifold with a usdm harness. Using an after-market intercooler for the twin-scroll setup would work, unless your engine came with the intercooler already. 😁 Then score! You'll mainly need to use the usdm harness and ECU to make everything plug and play. Using the usdm intake manifold now mainly for the purpose of a non twin-scroll setup.
Rumble Garage I do plan on running a vf52 with usdm exhaust manifolds and an aftermarket top mount , so I guess I’ll need to get the usdm intake manifold. Thanks and good luck with the swap
Absolutely agree! It ended up with a new one. This is some pretty old content. I never updated build series. I still plan to do a shorter 1 video upload on everything you need to know about a ej20x. I realize this video is old and you might not have known much about the 20x swap back then but 90% of the stuff you said needed changed, definitely did not need changed. If you didn’t, you should’ve made a stock vs. stock drivability video to show the viewers how much of a let-down the 20x swap is compared to the 2.5. Also, “tuning” out the exhaust AVCS doesn’t fix anything so it’s still gonna run like crap unless you mechanically delete the exhaust AVCS. So anyone reading this comment, if you want your car running again for cheap, buy a 20x and swap it. Just know it’ll never run as good as your 2.5 and you’ll be disappointed. If you want it done right, rebuild the 2.5 or buy a new shortblock. Not trying to be a dick but this was a horrible video if someone is watching it in hopes to 20x swap their car. Hopefully you went back through and corrected yourself in other videos.

Actually that engine can't be swapped into the forester. It won't work.

Why do you need to swap over the usdm intake manifold? Or can I get away with the jdm one and an aftermarket intercooler?

Never swap an oil cooler from a bad engine they hold a ton of shrapnel. Basically a bolt on grenade.
