Greetings from Greater Los Angeles, California. I have an important question about food. Could you please tell me if Russian food (pre-packaged, pre-cooked or "processed") has synthetic chemical additives, please? It's everywhere here, and I have severe allergies to that. I just subscribed. I am trying to listen but it's hard for me to follow: my Russian is very basic, and I have trouble with comprehension; but this morning I spoke with a REAL Russian lady on the phone who told me she spoke Russian, in Russian, when I asked if she spoke English. I felt bad because when she picked up and said something in Russian, I wanted to reply in Russian "I'm sorry, do you speak English" but I didn't because I was afraid she would laugh. (Many years ago, I studied Irish Gaelic for months, then went to the Irish fair and I was mocked by an Irishman for my accent, so I never took it up ever again!) 😪 So to stop her from hanging up on me, even though I was very embarrassed at my accent and bad Russian, I immediately switched to Russian to explain to her what I needed. It was about 3 full clauses in 1 sentence that I managed, whew! Then I added, out of fear, "Vii panimaete?" and she said "Kaneshna" as if my question were insulting, as if I questioned her intelligence. (I didn't: I was worried that my Russian was too atrocious for her to understand!) I was so shocked and overjoyed that she understood me! She replied and I didn't understand (I have very limited vocabulary!) So, I said to her: Yesli vii gavaritche pa' miedlienno, mojet bweetch, ya budu panimatch" and she switched to replying in English. WOW! This gave me hope. I desire to move to Russia, but I am not sure yet that I can make it happen. Thank you for reading and I hope you might reply about the food. thank you!
