sliding rather than carving (as coming from snowboarding). there, to carve means catch a side and ride along in a precisely cut line down the hill as the radius as the board is permitting (depends on the side cut radius of the snowboard). sliding (or drifting in terms of snowboarding) means to slip over the edge of the snb. here: to slide. hope this helpful ;)
Yeah I was fairly early on in the Freebord Snowboard journey at this point, drifting on a freebord is bordering on a skid on the snowboard. But yeah you can carve in some sense on the fb but its not the same, its more of a light touch and hold on a particular edge 👍
I love this . Been hitting hills on my lunch break... but I have a hard time stopping.. should wheels be loose or wound tightening them make harder to slide but easier to stop? Still trying to figure out the little things
Amazing! I dont know whether the tightness of the wheels will matter much, maybe the tightness of the trucks matters a bit but even then I don't think it's super important for learning. But I found slightly looser trucks easier to learn on 😎
same. in order to roll slower (as a beginner) i will try to tighten more the wheels in order to not moving too freely but rather to slow me down. i guess the bearings will suffer. but i will give it a try as the board elsewise is catching up speed to quickly. :)
Great video. After watching your vids thought I'd give it a go. Grabbed a used 75cm g3. All I could find. Tried for a while but couldn't even get the basics to stick. Checked my trucks and pivot cups crumbled and bushings hard as a rock. Anywhere that you could suggest for replacement. In Australia and impossible to find anything.
Nice vid but i would definitely take him to a wider road, i think it would ahowcase what you are teaching better also. On a sidenote, i have been getting better with my Summerboard now, getting into manuals. Just wondering how they compare feeling wise, would it be worth my while going for a freeboard for aome downhill trips?
I mean a non 5X freebord can be had for 100€. Never ridden a summerboard so cant say much about the difference other than what I've read people say it's easier on the summervoard since the driving wheels sort of stabilize things. If you want to learn to snowboard or have a lot of good hills nearby I would definetly recommend it.
@@cereal_thinker Oh I can already snowboard. Was just thinking for when I can't get out on it. The Summerboard is good fun but was wondering if the freeboard just handles better.
@@Ctec87 I mean if you want it to be closer to snowboarding get the 5X and put the trucks on the Summerboard or just use it as is, I guess the weight might make difference. I'm kind of the wrong guy to ask since I've never ridden a summerboard, some people say the g3r trucks are also better thsn the summerboard ones never ridden those either though.
Yeah I always wondered how your learned so fast. With that hill being so narrow with thorns on both sides means that you are especially motivated to not mess up. If you can ride down that hill then all other wider hills are going to be so easy.
Yeah ill defo go to a different spot next time! I havent tried manuals on my sbx and probably wont only because its way to expensive and they seem to have repair issues quite often. As for freebording, if you can get a g3r board second hand I dont see why you wouldnt, theyre so much more lightweight and free! (A comparison video will be out this friday, 5x vs g3r vs sbx😎)
So can you catch an edge just like a snowboard? I would assume.. yes.. lol - I moved and haven't been able to snowboard in nearly 5 years now, I'm super interested in getting one of these boards after getting a surfskate recently thinking it would feel like snowboarding again.
@@Whiterqbbit Yep you can definitely catch the edge! For buying them you have a choice between second hand and new, if you get new then I have a link if you'd like to support the channel :) eu.freebord.com/fb/EasyRiders/ Second hand can be very good value depending on the deals near you, Ive got a lot of guides on this too 🤙 Let me know how it goes!
I feel like the easiest way to learn sliding is to do it around corners since then you don't have to worry about driving into a ditch should you not have kicked out enough.
Does carving mean something different with freebords than snowboarding? Because a drift equivalent in snowboarding (skidding) to turn is poor form, and carving is totally different
Valid opinion, freebord 5x definitely feels better for carving. If you're metric is summer snowboard then 5x definitely! 😎 G3r for skatepark tho, and freebord+skatepark is under rated🔥
@@easy_ridersOui, je penses aussi👌👍. Pour la 5X, tu me conseilles les Ressorts bleus, ou les ressorts noirs montés de base ? Je mesure 1m80 de taille pour 80Kg de poids .. 😉.
Use the stick for beatings instead of holding on to and he'll learn a hell of a lot quicker.
😂

short: carve = roll a radius / slide = drift over the edge (to slow down). all in terms of snowboard vs. freebord speaking respectively.

Cool video 🤙🏼
I just mounted foamies on my 5-X to see if it helps me learning (I did catch an edge on a fast run with G3R : ouch 😬)
Its painful stuff. I actually really want padded socks for my 5x, I wonder if you could clone foamies 🤔
duh ...sorry whats foamies and padded socks?@@easy_riders

Yeah it does! I don't snowboard so I don't know the details but even on the Freebord you hold your edge to turn.
