  • Mantis Kung Fu has a very diverse array of techniques. However, it is most widely known for its quick hands, trapping, and grabbing techniques.
In today's video, I will show some common errors for blocking and grabbing punches. Many beginner to intermediate students perform the grabbing block or mantis block incorrectly and this leads to ineffectiveness in combat.

Hello Lee, How are you doin' ?!
Great to have this technique's breakdown but I still wonder how to apply this powerful technique against fast punches (altho the disavantage of hooks is that they're hard to pull)?

Hey thanks for watching! I have always found the key to executing this technique effectively is the range in which it is performed. I think most people are taught to do this block within the maximum effectiveness of the strike (meaning where the punch would inflict maximum damage upon impact). In reality, you have to be in the trapping/ clinching range to execute this block effectively. This grab works when your objective is to move in, grab, and control your opponent. Think of a sanda fighter grabbing for a quick knee or a Muay Thai fighter clinching up as they are defending a strike.
