I hope you are all doing well. Sorry I am unable to answer any comments or messages - I am away on a 5 week camping trip with no signal so sadly I can’t respond to all your lovely messages. I am very sorry but will get back to you as soon as I am back home. I think you will love this video I am currently filming! Take care x

Hey, I just found your channel. Thank you very much for the video. You pack a lot of information into 1 video. I just got interested in doing bush crafting about 3 weeks ago. I purchased some knives and some Magnesium Iron fire maker rod. I got 2 Mora knives and ordered a Machete and a 14-inch camping hatchet. I like your video, I will practice in my back yard first. Thank you again. I live in Northern Alabama.

My wife is already getting jealous, and if I keep watching, she won't let me go camping anymore. Very interesting videos I can not tear myself away, thank you for your efforts!!!

Wonderful Becky, it never ceases to amaze me with how much you are able to share, being as young as you are, I just love it. Your presentation is awesome teaching without belittling, which can be hard to do. I hope you have a wonderful hike with lots to share when you get back. Take care and stay safe.

You are well prepared to survive in the wilderness with your knowledge of fire making and there is one thing I would do before going out camping. You can collect the lint from the clothes dryer and place it in a container to have just to begin a fire with. I have some which I have collected and will use it the next time I go into the forest. Your knife is perfect for the purpose you are using it for and good you have that type.
The skills you are showing us here is what everyone should be knowing when going into the forest. I hope everyone who is new to fire starting have learned something from this video and know a little more about surviving outdoors in different conditions.

You can also use steel to start a fire in almost any weather. Once it starts it burns HOT!. which should help start a wet weather wood tender that may have a higher than normal amount of moisture.
PS, that is a very nice looking knife.

yellow cedar is good to start, it will burn when wet, lots and lots of sap.
i also start my fires on dry wood usually split wood, stops heat going to the wet ground.

Do you ever carry a small candle for tinder/accelerant? There's no birch or pine in native bush here in rainy New Zealand so I was taught to use the tipi + feather stick + candle combination as a kid on school camps.

Although friction fire and flint and steel can overcome dampness through heat, causing the birds nest to dry before catching. All depends on your materials though

do you how to make a torch? the way they did it in the past was to get a small log and the small sticks and tie the sticks to the end of the log and fire up the sticks, now with that said you can make half a torch by taking your sticks just some of them and tie them together then use your birch bark to light the bundle and then once it is lit and burning well put it into the rest of your sticks and add larger sticks till you get the fire you want. P.S. you can make up a lot of small bundles of sticks so you can use them later. as always in joy

Well-done explanation of some key fire techniques. YOUR FANS who might like to see another wet-weather fire lay could visit TH-camr Corporals Corner. He demonstrates a specific lay that has a high probability of starting in a variety of conditions: it shelters tinder and kindling from wind while providing oxygen flow.
