Scotland in October very cold and wet. Or can be in my experience. A tip if you pack your kit in reverse order. I,e what you need first at the top like tent. You don't need to empty your whole kit to get it out. It maybe important if raining or wet. Then stove and sleeping kit so once tent is up it can be done in the tent after that with a brew. Good luck and have a good trip.
Hi Becky, I walked the West Highland Way about 20 years ago now, I walked it with a few work mates, and we did it during he winter, as we wanted to experience and walk in the snow. You will absolutely love it as the scenery is breathtaking. Enjoy and stay safe !
Just catching up with your videos, just to say, I think you videos are great and very informative. Iam thinking on doing the WHW and was worried about my pack weight which is 13kg, you’ve obviously taken more. Well done. Take a bow young lady. 😊
Thank you for sharing this with us. I usually watching your videos. Which is outstanding in my view. Keep it up and upload more video this winter. You are so sweet .
You will love the West Highland Way, probably carrying too much stuff but i did the same back in 1990 and found i never used a lot of the stuff. Have a good trip.
I went in May, friggin heatwave. Couldn't work out the transport link to mulgavie, so took a cab. The locals weren't particularly helpful or friendly but it was 30 years ago, I am sure things have improved! Best of luck
hi, Girl outdoors...will be following your trip with great interest, as I love Scotland. Left it a bit late in my life to start this outdoor lark..been spending lots of money getting ready for next year...got a new Vango Banshee 200 pro myself and the gear cover extension to go with it...have a great trip.and what an adventure...Stay safe!! M C.
The two best bits of advice i got on doing my first long distance walk: How do i prepare for my first long distance walk? "Just start walking". I ditched unused gear and bought what i actually needed in the first week. Everyone ends up with a slightly different set of gear for the same walk, that works for them. Second bit of advice, which you mentioned in your video: "Don't set a rigid timetable". It's a long walk, some days go well, other days you're tired and if you set a rigid timetable, you just beat yourself up for not achieving. Sounds like you're going to have a great adventure, all your viewers are gonna look forward to your video.
Very nice! I realize that you're going with a traditional loadout but you might want to check out some of these lightweight/ "ultralight" backpacking channels. They really helped me lighten up a lot over the years. There are several little tweaks you can make that can really add up to a significant drop in weight. 17 kg seems a bit heavy (for me at least), especially for a long trip.
Good luck! I did the WHW last month and it was truly magical! Be aware that the Inveroran Hotel is currently closed to non residents.. Might not be a problem but does mean that in terms of refreshments (ie beer on tap) there is only the Bridge of Orchy Hotel between Tyndrum and Kings House, which is quite a long and isolated stretch, particularly if you are relying on pub grub for one meal a day! You can still camp there but we opted to carry on up the hill for a mile or two, there's a great spot in some woods up on the left side of the track.. Away from the other people 👍 PS I echo earlier sentiments, the North end of Loch Lomond is not to be underestimated 😂
I'am happy for you. I can really relate to your excitment, because last year I did a part of WHW (like 60% of it) and I know how happy I was at that time. Now, thanks to you, I will have the chance to see those places again, so I'll keep an eye on your next videos. I really miss how happy I was there. Scotland is great in so many ways, full of nice people. I miss even the midgets. :) Be careful how much you carry. I have back pain and bad knees now, at 39, and I wish I carried a less heavy backpack in the past. Now, for my 2 weeks in Scotland, I had only 6.2kg (without food or water) and it was all good. And be careful with the bivy and the down sleeping bag combination too. Bivys, because they don't really breath, tend to make a lot of condensation, and you don't want to end up with a soaked sleeping bag in a wet enviroment. Anyway, I wish you a happy trail and a big smile on your face. Greetings from Romania. :)
Some tips from a fellow lady camper familiar with what you are doing and from the area. Forget about the toilet roll - too bulky. Take wee packets of tissues instead. Easier to pack and keep dry. Don't forget a bag to carry out your toilet tissue waste. Moss a good alternative! A wide tent peg is a useful alternative to a trowel for burying your poo. No mosquitos up here and the midges have gone. Had ice on my tent last week. Needed woolly hat, buff and duvet jacket. Missed what bed roll you are using but it will need to be a good one! I would use walking poles. The path is rough in places and you will appreciate them for balance when crossing streams and bogs. Are you taking gaters? It is muddy in sections. A lot of the restaurants and cafes have closed up here now due to Covid. You will need your face mask. Several hotels in the area have had to close due to staff catching Covid. Bivvy and tent feels like a lot of extra weight. Either/or surely. If need be you could cheat a little and get a bag of the heavier stuff taken from one location to the next for you. Good luck. I hope it goes well for you. The autumn colours up here are great. There has been snow on the hills so make sure you are well prepared!
You have plenty of items in your backpack and is ready for a long hike and I hope it all last you for a month's trip to Scotland and I wish you all the best on your trip. I love the selection of items you are taking with you and it looks great too and you will need to buy another container of fuel or two while on your way to where you will be staying before returning home. I would recommend finding a place with some wood and rocks so you can make a camp fire to save your fuel as much as possible. Again, I wish you all the best on your trip, Becky, and may God Bless you on your trip.
Good stuff, hope the trip goes (or went) well. Plenty of ways to lighten that load up a bit, I bet it gets lighter as you go :) . ps, cnoc meaning small hill is pronounced Knock as in knock on the door, I've lived in Scotland for 20 years now and I still can't pronounce the half of it, don't let it stop you. Happy trails.
I think learning what you do and don't need is part of the journey and you'll soon ditch something if you don't need it. I'm not a lightweight backpacker and never will be through personnel preference. I like comfort and the weight doesn't bother me and if it doesn't bother you either then who cares? Have fun, I'm sure you will. Scotland is a beautiful country and the WHW certainly showcases that. Atb Shaun
I love abby, she is a good woman who encourages people to get outdoor like yourself ;) great video looking at your kit, I do miss a backpack witrh bulky gear sometimes, must be so comfy and warm haha
you could probably lose a fair bit of that kit esepcially the bivi bag if you got a decent sleeping bag. Also you may know this tip but smoke from a camp fire is a good midgie repellent but also if you hang your clothes above the fire or you open them up on you and stand near the fire and whaft the smoke across you, the smoke kills the bacteria that causes smelly clothes ;) Enjopy scotland it really is beautfiul scenary with great people. also if you dont have one get a shemagh as that has loads of uses including acting as a filter of Debris from water if you fill up in a stream (preboiling) good drills and hope you had a good tab
You are so well-prepared. It is going to be a blast! I am impressed on how many things fit into your repair kit! Looks like a magician hat where you can endlessly put things inside :-) Wish you an outstanding hiking trip and looking forward to seeing the footages! Take care and stay safe!
Hi Becks great to see you again. Hope the trip was everything you hoped it would be. Autumn would be a good time to do it - Autumn colours & no midges ! A month up there sounds like heaven to me. Take care xx

Love the West Highland Way you will love it 😀 Just take your time & enjoy it, found the Loch Lomond part of the walk the hardest look forward to hearing how u get on
Enjoy your hike. Can't wait to see the vlogs. Worst part is up the side of Loch Lomond. Once you're clear of there you'll really enjoy it. Don't be afraid of the Devils Staircase, it's not as bad as it's name suggests. Hope the weather is kind. ATB Martin 🏴
Great loadout video with your gear preferences and explanations! I am looking forward to seeing your vlog updates on your hike. I've visited the UK, but sadly, never had the time to camp or hike. Someday I hope you can make it to the US and if you do, I highly recommend the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW or BWCA), in Minnesota. Over a million acres of wilderness and over a thousand lakes! Best wishes for good weather on your trip!
The bivy is a smart choice for were you are going. We have Dixie UK has Becky . Great video, be safe as you go Into the Wild my friend!!!! You always have my support
Have an amazing trip Girl Outdoors. You are an absolutely an inspiration! By the way have you got some daily vitamin tablets you can take. I think its good to take those.
Know that you have allready started your trip, but i was thinking about you saying that you where nervous about your down bag getting wet, and that you brougt a 4 season becouse the weather will get colder during your trip. I have used two 3 sesason bags (or 1 summer bag + a 3 seadon bag) instead of a 4 season, in late autumn/ early winter. The bag i use closest to my body is down, and the one i use on the outside is synthetic. This makes dryibg easier, and if the weather shifts alot, i can choose to use only one, in addition i use a much thicker infalteable mat, becouse most heatloss is lost by body-ground contact. I camp in fairly simmilar conditions, highlands of Northern Norway, so it will probably work well for you as well. Have a nice trip 🇳🇴❤🏴
Miss Becky you seem well prepared, however I would pack a 6 ounce ribeye steak and a potato to cook on the first night out, take a bag of bacon bits (about 6 oz.) they will go great with all your oatmeal and other food items you take ❤watching you pretty lady, can't wait for your next video., ❤ from Texas .
Oh fantastic will be fantastic watching you, I am in Glasgow outskirts if you have any problems etc your welcome to come to mine 👍🏴 I have walked the last 23 miles from kings house hotel at Glencoe to fort William , kinlochleven is lovely they have lovely little pubs for the walkers. I would love to do the whole walk one day even if I am in my 60s lol 😆 x
That's a lot of extra kit your taking 🤔 No need for midge repellent, they're gone for the winter. Don't bother with a bivi bag the tent will suffice. There's hunners ae tree's all the way up through until you reach Crianlarich. The walking up the east side of Loch Lomond is the toughest part, take your time going over the tree's and rock's. There are two bothies at the top end of the Loch that are excellent stopover dry off places... Don't be afraid to use them. There are plenty of shops to buy food so you could lose some weight there. Roll some tape around a tent pole and use that as repair tape. Zinc oxide tape and dry socks will help prevent blister's. Read the books on the train journey but don't take them unless you need fire starter paper. Consider using a bag carrier for some of the way, and don't use deodorant, the Midge's are attracted to sweet smells. Sorry for the short messages, typing during my break... Enjoy Scotland 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴💞
If u have a down bad the bivi bag is almost essential. I just use the oex bivi bag one of the best iv used. Unless you are just using a bike with no tent maybe a tarp, the race accent bivi is lroa little bit kver kill, you won't exactly be zipping your self completely up in a tent lol
Aye BigAl is spot on very sound advice You can drop quite a bit of that gear. Stick with the tent. Plenty of village shops around to resupply if needed.
The easiest way for you to cut the pack weight down would be a lightweight tent. The Banshee is excellent but heavy. Looking forward to seeing your adventure sounds amazing.
Scotland in October very cold and wet. Or can be in my experience.
A tip if you pack your kit in reverse order. I,e what you need first at the top like tent.

Becky a good addition to your sleep system might be a silk liner for your sleeping bag. It adds +10° warth to your sleeping bag and is super light

When you want to clean our your pots, in the military we used to use sand to clean and works the best with a bit of water
a wooden stick would do the same, without scratching the interior. If the internal surface is smooth, no filth will stick.
@@robertohexsel3763 Robert agreed, but some times no sticks so hence the sand, but fully agree
True
You need to have sand though...
You can use grass sounds weird but it works

I had the same problems with my filter, I bought a new hose for my source 3 liter hydration back and cut it and attached the filter that way
have a great trip.
Some great advice there!

She said her down bag tends to get wet.
@@outsidethepyramid You didn't read my post properly 🤔 I was typing as fast as I could during a break 😏😏😏
Good luck enjoy
The easiest way for you to cut the pack weight down would be a lightweight tent. The Banshee is excellent but heavy.
Looking forward to seeing your adventure sounds amazing.
Awsome, hope enjoy ur long trip. Keep safety 👍🏕
Those waterproof bags are very smart.
