Every aspect of this video exudes quality: information, videography; teaching approach...A 'real pro' tip was the value of different size feathers. Similarly, long and thick ferro rods make larger sparks and last longer. I watch a lot of these channels and I have never caught that tip before. TBS offers fine knives. Your viewers will not go wrong with them. Good safety information. Silver colloid bandages can seal deep wounds and might be considered as essential in a woodland camp medicine kit. On a personal note: I just received a custom walnut bow saw...even at 75, I felt like I did when I got my first hatchet for Christmas! WE DO LOVE OUR KNIVES! Scandi grind is not fine for all uses. Other grinds are so much better for skinning, slicing and the like. Anyway, I have a 'drawer full' of various knives of exceptional quality. Well, I cook seriously at home as well as going into the field.
You are a beautiful teacher. Thank you very much for this class. I am going to show my brother what I have learned. I made two just following your demonstration today. Now I need to ask your mom to do a class on making a spatula lol.
Outstanding demonstration on how to make feather sticks. Great teaching skills. Almost anyone will be able to make them after watching this video. Good Job Becky. Have a super wonderful day.
Very nice. Very informative. You pulled in a lot of extra experience not usually found in tutorials on feather sticks (wood species and the way they burn in addition to the way they cut for example).
I have been showing your videos to my grand children Caroline is thirteen and Eleanor is fourteen They usually ignore me accusing me of being a silly old idiot But when they watched your story they muttered grandad that is awesome! Waouw, the sun is shinning outside but also on my screen, really good review, explanations with the perfect tools (saw, axe, knife), here is a woman who respect her tools with efficience and she is not trying to cut a tree trunk with a knife...which is not made for that, sorry guys. Keep going mademoiselle! 👍👍👍
Very well done Becky, I like the fact that you mentioned trying something that you observed with the other hand, its the sane thing but it is different. Keep up the good work, looking forward to your next update. Take care and stay safe.
Great video Becky, i actually learned to feather with my hatchet first. I like how some words come out of you so slowly, like cold molasses, lol. Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos and your channel, it shows. Have a great day.

Another great informative video from my favorite bushcrafter. I’m at work and got the notification for this video and I actually took my lunch break early to watch lol, great job. You’ll have more subs than Dave Canterbury before long.
Hello Becky, thank you for sharing this fine video. You have become quite skillful at wood processing. This was a great tutorial, awesome job. All the best to you and your family. 🤗
This is a great video full of really good information on wood types and their uses and you’ve done a brilliant tutorial on how to make feather sticks. I really need to practice making them again because it’s an essential skill to have as you never know when you might really need it. You are far better than me for sure. Well when I’ve had a crappy day at work it’s always great to get comfortable, put on my headphones and watch your videos. I could listen to you for hours and hours. Your videos are very informative and very relaxing to watch. Just the thing I need when I’m a little stressed from work. I’m looking forward to your next one already. Thanks for all your hard work producing your videos for us all to enjoy. I know it’s far more time consuming than people think. Well until next time my friend, take care Becky x😁
Just what I/we Needed! GREAT JOB!!! An Excellent Tutorial on ALL the aspects needed to know: What the Hell is Feathersticking & Fatwood? What wood do I use? Everybody else Talks about.... But Never Explains! Will be out this week Practicing these Skills with ESEE 6 w/Green G10... Enjoying the Journey, Please keep 'em coming... Cheers from Ohio, USA P.S. You do a Great Job in Music Selection, too! Very Enjoyable to Watch every Video! Here's to 30k by 2021-01-01
You have a good ability to tell how to do it, it actually like right after the book with all the tricks. I discovered the hardest thing was to steer the knife at the right angle, either nothing happens or it gets buried, but when you get a feel of it, it goes very well. Another good flame retardant is sawdust, if you put a piece of plastic underneath and pick it up when you saw firewood, it works well. There is also Buster, he never becomes a good bushcrafter every time there is teaching, he turns his back to and sleeps, maybe with the exception when the subject is food. 😉
Howdy Becky!! Another most excellent video from the Magic Grasshopper :) This is likely one the very best feather making videos on TH-cam! I have seen most of them! You explain everything very well and do not leave out any safety tips especially the leg triangle and you include a short portion of how to use a hatchet for carving feathers. Nice! Getting to know your main knife is paramount. Scandi grinds cut deeper than Sabre grinds and full ground blades cut differently than all of them. As you pointed out, there is no substitute for practice with your chosen knife and different woods. Awesome! Sending love and hugs from the Cherokee National Forest...things are cooling off now! ~~~*^^*^^^~
Awesome job !! Great how to Becky ! I fine the mora hachet does extremely well at shaving and feathering. Was pretty happy to hear you mention choosing the wood is important. I know my Rat 5 likes maple wood and pine.
Girl Outdoors WTF have I just watched!!!!! A young girl using an axe instead of batoning, absolutely brilliant. Nice axe skills. Next video axe throwing by Girl Outdoors 😊😊😊
You have learned so much about bushcrafting and it shows in the quality of the work you do all the time and I hope you go very far in life with those skills. I still say that you should complete high school and go to college or technical school, but that is your choice. I love the way you make feathersticks and the knife you are using seem to be wonderful for the job and I hope it give you a lifetime of great service.
Girl Outdoors I don't believe it a bushcrafters/survivalist using an axe to split wood!!!!!!! You handle that axe very well . Right tool for the job👍 So glad you dumped survival sillys very expensive junk knife. Don't throw it away it makes a very good butter knife. Still can't get over you using an axe to split wood, and how well you used it.
@@bgurtek I can't help that if you like a way,way way overpriced, piece of junk, made in China knife. Go to a channel "Dutch Bushcraft Knives "to see the only honest review on TH-cam.
I'll check it out on the channel you mentioned. Truth be told, if a knife has decent steel, a full tang and decent scales, it'll work. And depending upon the manufacturing process and set-up, the cost can vary widely. Further, bushcraft discussion should remain respectful - it isn't a competition.
@@bgurtek survival fake tuber silly actually threatened DBK with a lawsuit if they didn't remove the video. Also take a look at a recent video they did with survival sillys apo1 v SRK knife which costs $40 compared to her $135!!!!!!!!
glad you mentioned the health and safety of using a knife. It is very important. I get very cautious with a knife from now on keeping an eye on my angles. I had a horrible experience with an axe in the woods and saw my bone. I had to make sure I did not panic and walked very fast to the nearest house. No one there so I had to walk back to my house. Very scary situation to be in cause I did not know how serious it was.
Well done! Just a note: how you batoned the log with your hatchet for light applications is FINE. However, if you beat on the butt of a hatchet or ax in that manner, you can actually warp the eye of the head and cause the handle to come loose. Unless they are solid steel like an Estwing, it is ill advised for "heavy" applications. Great demo. Thanks.
Great vid Girl... Your popularity as well as the channel is growing like a wild fire! I'm figuring 82,543 subs by end of the year!?! Best of luck with that and even more. Hello to the family for us also eah!?!
Yes Becky, repetition is the best teacher. If you don't use it you lose it. BTW, I didn't realize there were any "public" forest areas left in Merry Olde England. You know what I mean, land and forest you can walk through and have the freedom to camp on.
If you lock the arm, you use to feather, to your leg it helps with, chattering and locking your wrist you hold your knife with helps too .Great content God bless you and your family .. Lee
