@@makama489no it was a made up language. Marco here actually speaks latin, and he always comments on the latin in videos that have it. Here he made no mention of any latin, and even the creators of the game stated the language spoken isn’t any real language
Interestingly, God Shattering Start, while a final boss song, isn't for a final boss that is a gigantic colossus or the like as one would think, but rather a human. By no means a normal human, quite literally a god-slayer, but the enemy is in a frame of a human. This, I'd say, makes the music work even better, giving a large than life status and oppressive feel for something that is not much bigger than you, but an incredible ancient evil nonetheless, making sure you don't underestimate them as anything close to a regular human.
the thing is most fire emblem final bosses are generally dragons and the most epic song in the game being the boss theme of not a Dragon, not the Corrupted Demonic Empress but the boss theme of just a man with a sword just increases the both the epicness of the situation and adds to how big of a badass Nemesis is.
3 small fun facts 1: this is one of 4 tracks in the entire game with vocals, and the only one with a male lead 2: this song is sung ENTIRELY in Födlansk, a fantasy language made specifically for this game made from mashing latin, german, and norse 3: this is one of the final bosses, whos literally just an anime dude who happens to wield a sword made of *gods spinal column* , and depending on if you are just moving around the map or fighting it switches between the vocal and instrumental version which were mixed here
@@somerandomgoblin2583 i think its the official term, i might be misspelling it though; the wiki and/or the collectors edition box would have the proper spelling
@@Crowfather7 the 4 songs are God shattering star, Edge of Dawn (various versions), Annette's food song, and the song of the Goddess (Rhea's Lullaby) there are also various gregorian chanting sounds and random soprano cries in the ost but those arent words theyre just sounds so i dont really count em
-"Weapons?" -"Sharpened and ready!" -"Warhorses?" -"Ready to deploy!" -"Siegeweapons?" -"Ready!" -"Healers?" -"On their positions!" -"Suply chains?" -"Established!" -"Opera?" -"Wait! what Sire? I dont understand!"
God, can you imagine the acoustics of God Shattering Star belted out in a symphony hall? Like, it's intense just from the song itself from its own soundtrack, but in person? I bet it'd blow you away so much harder.
I would happily do the vocals for it. I haven’t sang professionally in a few years due to Covid but I would gladly come out of the woodwork for it. Not that I’m all that good anymore, I lost what I didn’t use. To those singers out there: practice and take care of your voice it IS an instrument that needs constant attention to maintain like slide grease for a trombone, Rosen for a bow, or oil for a valve.
Lyrics from the official 3h ost booklet: Arise, you who cannot bear death Raise your heads bravely and take up your weapons. No more wishing for the corpses of your comrades. It’s time to rebel and liberate. Warriors, gather to this banner. Run! Raise the flag! From the beast called God. To take back our pride from the beast called God. Warriors, shout to the earth! Follow me through the wilderness! In the name of rebellion. Let your bodies tremble Let your souls do as they wish Like the wind that blows through Mother Earth(Fódlan) Like the sunrise that colors the great Ogma Stamp it out, raise your voice, strong as a lion. Our cries will ride the wind for a thousand miles. Let it reach the starry shores of the sea. Reach high and praise me, for I am the one who will liberate you all.
Pierce the sky, mysterious artifacts I am the embodiment of wrath I am the god shattering star
SPOILERS FOR THREE HOUSES: Btw fun fact, although the lyrics are in a fictional language, there is an official translation, and the song's actually from the perspective of Nemesis (the final boss of the "Verdant Wind"/Golden Deer route that this song belongs to). He isn't a giant, but he _was_ a very ancient and very powerful conqueror who killed the physical form of a creator goddess and made a mystical sword from her bones. There's a secret society you fight in 3/4th of the routes (one of the other comments said there were three but Black Eagles actually splits up into two near the end of the first part based on a choice you can make,) in Verdant Wind they actually succeed at the last second and resurrect Nemesis _and_ his army, right after you kill the cult's leader, Thales. By the time you fight Nemesis (and also phantoms of the Ten Elites who a lot of the protagonists descended from, who apparently weren't so nice and helped him slaughter the Goddess' children and descendants). The song's lyrics essentially say that Nemesis will far surpass any and all that oppose him, even gods, who he refers to as "beasts". The song ends with Nemesis declaring himself as the world's salvation, and that he is the "God Shattering Star". Fittingly enough, the protagonist who wields Nemesis' sword for good throughout the game is nicknamed the "Fell Star" in-game by Nemesis' worshippers so there's an interesting parallel lol
In the DLC you can read some banned books in the Abyss library. One of them confirms that at least some of the Ten Elites had no idea what was going on or why the Nabateans hated them so much. Nemesis kept some or all of his closest friends out of the loop when making his deal with the Agarthans to gain the power he needed to fight his original war in the north.
I never played Tree Houses (or any Fire Emblem for that matter) and somehow stumbled upon this theme. I was surprised on how heroic this theme felt considering it's for the BBEG, but now I get it. He just really thinks he IS the hero of the story
@@billvolk4236I find it interesting how there’s a clear parallel to Edelgard and her ambition to spearhead things despite the current theological rule status quo. Really shows how no one on any side is 100% in the right in their goals and ambitions.
So interestingly enough Joe Zeija, the voice of Claude, whose story gets this song for the final fight did a cover of this song with TheFamileJules who does a bunch of video game covers, with Joe taking the vocals.
@@MarcoMeatball Yep, he's not actually singing in battle, its more like the Nier bosses where it happens to be part of the boss theme. But who would have known that the legendary God Slayer Nemesis could also sing. Definitely my favorite boss theme out of all the other routes.
Yeah, the lyrics are meant to be a form of war cry or war song, meant to inspire his own troops and/or intimidate the enemy. Reading the translated lyrics gives the impression that this is a war speech or a war song issued to his troops before they charge into battle.
For clarity, this is a medley of Rain version (which plays during the map section) and storm (which doesn't feature vocals and plays during battle animations)! I look forward to you reacting to my personal favourite final boss theme, "Twilight of The Gods", from Shadows of Valentia!
I would say though, given how the battles in Fire Emblem work, you're actually intended to hear the Rain and Storm versions of the song together for the intended effect in 3 Houses. Since you swap in and out of map and combat as you progress through the map, beating the enemies to get to the boss. Also I am a big fan of "Twilight of the Gods" it's my favourite Fire Emblem map music. Shadows of Valentia is my favourite FE game ever!
My personal favourite mashup between the Rain and Thunder versions is the one by ZXApocrypha. It lets both versions properly _breathe_ without having them overstay their welcome either.
This is actually only one of three final boss themes though it is the best in the game. Apex of the World- Azure Moon and Crimson Flower Funeral of Flowers- silver snow And God Shatering Star- Golden Deer Each fits the scenario you're dealing with Apex of the World:The final end to this long bitter conflict after one final push Funeral of Flowers: Your victory has turned into a tragedy due to an unfortunate event God Shatering Star: Fighting a myth back from the dead who wishes to see all that you know and love destroyed.
And also At What Cost? from Cindered Shadows. The bad guy almost won, he's adhering to the "any means necessary" method but it has backfired horribly onto him and now not only his plan failed but also he's now the one that needs to be put out of his misery. All of the 3H OST rocks, but they outdid themselves with the final bosses' themes
An important note here: between the opening chords and the general tone, the singer's voice in the vocal version of the track is heavily implied to directly represent the final boss himself. This is HIS song, so the feeling of power it gives is very specifically HIS power. Similarly the heroic tone, as the factions in FE3H are multifaceted and aside from being a terrifying enemy to you the singer is also known as the King of Liberation and pretty much established the setting's current way of life. He's an ancient, larger than life legend of a man risen to rule again, and your force, the weakest of all those in the setting, is in his way. Good luck.
@@thecursed_1lordofcats738 Canon to what? If you mean the fact that the runaway professor was slated for the Golden Deer, then that means nothing. Not when the positions are getting reshuffled last-second based on pure nepotism.
@@thecursed_1lordofcats738 I wouldn’t say that the Golden Deer is the canon route. The game points more towards the Blue Lions or the Black Eagles being the canon routes. I’d say more of the Blue Lions because most of the end of the month assignments are done in the Kingdom, then what the Flame Emperor is revealed the Blue Lions are the only one that got a cutscene while the others were just small bits of dialogue. Heck, the Golden Deer didn’t even get a fancy reveal, it was just “oh yeah you defeated the Flame Emperor… we’re just going to show -------‘s face in a normal text box.” While you don’t face Nemesis or TWSITD in the Blue Lions route you do learn about who Thales is (spoilers, it’s Lord Arundel, or Dimitri and Edelgard’s uncle)
@@CommanderBly5052 Actually, it's not revealed in that route. Arundel is suspicious and him being an Agarthan is pretty much certain, but his identity as Thales is not directly revealed at any point. Nor do I think the focus on the Kingdom in WC really makes AM "canon". It only gives it a personal connection with the events, fittingly for a route where the personal angle is front and center and the politics are approached as "it is the way it is". Meanwhile, for CF and VW this serves as justification, showing Faerghus as the place most ravaged by the system's excesses.
@@illusive-mike it’s pretty clear that Arundel is Thales in the Blue Lions route, I don’t remember Arundel ever appearing in the Verdant Wind or Crimson Flower routes. Then again, CF is my least played route so I wouldn’t remember. Well whatever the case I just don’t see Verdant Wind as the canon route. I also don’t see Crimson Flower as canon either because, to me, I don’t see why Byleth would ever join ------- after seeing Jeralt be killed and learning that ------ and TWSITD are “working together”
I can imagine myself going to watch an Opera with that music and enjoying very much. Fire Emblem has an amazing soundtrack! Other music from Fire Emblem that you might like to listen to are Lord of a Dead Empire, The Scions' Dance in Purgatory, and Twilight of Gods. There is more but I have to remember them all. Those three musics are the ones that marked me most from the ones I remember and I think it will be a good start for you.
@Mario Alberto Moreno yeah! That one is from Awakening! It's been a while that I do not play Awakening. That is from the final map, right? If it is so, I like that music as well but Twilight of the Gods is still my favorite
As a Tenor myself, I absolutely adore both the Fire Emblem 3 houses game and Soundtrack. When I was playing the game I often stopped in the middle of gameplay because the music is so intense and incredible!! I completely agree that this type of music should be recognized and added to repertoires since it's made with love and passion with a classical focus. It would be amazing to see some of the world's most recognized singers belt these insane notes!! Loved the video dude, I'm so glad to see another opera singer react to this beauty of a game!!
When I was invested in music in college, I would always try to bring up to people the quality and amazing compositions that were in video game music, and that these composers were the modern composers of our time... and I'd always get dismissed with the ol "oh but its just a game hur dur", im glad there's more people out there like you coming to the realization that yeah, these games have some incredibly talented composers behind them and these pieces SHOULD be played in concert halls as more than just "pop music"
Trust me, it's more epic when you're leading Claude's army against Nemesis during the climax of Verdant Wind route. This song reprised again in the mobile Fire Emblem Heroes as the theme song for Legendary Claude's map.
I'd hoped one day you'd react to God Shattering Star, the reactions of many people (myself included) were just awe and surprise. Here is a side note for context, this is indeed the final boss track of one of the routes, Golden deer.
@@marioalbertomoreno3819 the game switches between the two tracks, but they’re composed as two separate songs. There are vocal sections from the rain track that you don’t hear in this video because the thunder track doesn’t include them. This mix simulates the gameplay experience somewhat, but you miss out on great parts of both tracks because the other one was chosen
Never woulda thought I'd see an Opera Singer Reacts perspective. A really good one I think you'd like is Octopath Traveler's That One They Call The Witch and Daughter of The Dark God. The first being a more "traditional" song while the latter is kinda like an opera-rock remix ver of the former
God Shattering Star gets me going every time. The cadence of the voice and the instruments that, at times, can sound overwhelming, presumably on purpose, fit the theme of the battle the song plays during, a large, murky battlefield with old warriors presumed dead marching for your defeat. It makes my heart sink at the slow start in the best way possible, then gets me fired up and determined again when the orchestra kicks in again. Three Houses is def my favorite game I've ever played. The music alone might be the reason, every track is able to instill some kind of emotion into me. Serenity in some places, and intense focus in others. God Shattering Star in particular does a good job of immersing you in the idea that "Hey, this ain't no regular fight, be on your toes and be prepared to take risks and make sacrifices." Side note: Part of the reason I cried at the credits was because Lorenz died in that fight in order to just barely let Claude finish the boss with a ~20% critical hit. Hate that guy, but he's a champ for that one. Godspeed, and may your hair look better in the afterlife, Lorenz.
i still vividly remember pressing start on this battle and just LOSING IT over the music. i sat there for so long not even making a move, it was amazing. i’ll never regret playing the golden deer route for my first playthrough cause this was such an experience.
Hmm to me it was the final router and I think it was more spectacular to finish the game with God Shattering Star. I kknew the song was amazing from comments so I made sure to not get spoiled for a whole year until I finished all routes. I am sure it was nice to have golden deer as the first route but I am even more sure it was better to experience it last 😛
I cannot catch English but your reaction is impressed with me. I love FETH OST, so I'm glad if you listen another FETH OSTs such as Chasing Daybreak, Ashen Wolves, The Apex of the world. And also, I like your nice smile and voice. I'm looking forward to see your new movies. Nice work keep it up! From Japan.
For other Fire Emblem music, I would also strongly recommend Twilight of the Gods from Fire Emblem Echoes and At What Cost from Fire Emblem Three Houses: Cindered Shadows. The latter is my personal favorite from the Fire Emblem franchise and also features quite a bit of opera style vocals within it. For video game music in general, it’s basically impossible to go wrong with anything from Xenoblade, but my most recommended piece from Xenoblade music has to be Walking With You from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. That piece is, in my humble opinion, the greatest piece of music I’ve ever heard in a video game. It is hauntingly beautiful.
This honestly is one of the best final boss theme in Fire Emblem. I literally had to stop and listen to the song for a few minutes before realizing it felt like I was re-enacting a historic battle and to a degree you are
Awesone video man! This one is such a banger. You should also listen to "Twilight of the Gods" by the same game franchise, Fire Emblem. It's really good.
Hey! I just wanted to note that this particular song is a mix of both versions (the overworld and the in combat versions) of this track from the game it comes from and I am so glad you reacted to this as I and many others see it as the best version of this track. As always, so insightful and keep doing what you’re doing! I love these vids!!
It's always a treat to watch a musician's first time reaction to God Shattering Star. If you're open to suggestions, I 100% recommend the Xenoblade soundtrack. Xenoblade X's soundtrack was composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, most famous for his work in anime soundtracks like Attack on Titan and Gundam. "Theme X" and "Codename Z" are both fantastic pieces from the game. The numbered games are composed and played by a group known as ACE+ who as a group have composed for the Xenoblade games, and are confirmed to be working on the OST on the upcoming Xenoblade 3, and some of the most popular song remixes in Smash Ultimate, and members having worked on the OSTs of games like Chrono Trigger. The most iconic from the numbered series are probably "You Will Know Our Names" and "Counterattack" though songs like "Unfinished Business" and "Drifting Souls" also usually rank among the top of people's lists.
A funeral of flowars is another absolutely phenomenal track from this game. It is one of if not the most powerful peices of music i have ever heard and when i first heard it, it almost brought me to tears, one of the most epic and yet sad themes i have ever heard, i would love to see you react to it blind. Also just a quick thing i should tell you if you decide to listen to it. Fire emblem three houses has this neat thing with its music where each main battle theme has two versions, called rain and thunder. To expain the difference i will quickly have to tell you how three houses works, its a grid based stratagy game where you have units that you can move across the board to battle enemy forces. When you initiate a battle with an enemy the game will transition into a battle between the two units where you watch them perform the actions you instructed them to do in the battle. Where the rain an thunder versions come in is when you havent initiated a battle and you are looking at the board and moving you units you will be hearing the rain version of the track which is the full complete theme , but when you initiate a battle the music will initiate the thunder version of the track which is typicly a more simple version of the track with lots of precussion. You were actually listening to a mix of both the rain and thunder versions, you can tell wich part is wchis because the thunder version of god shattering star does not have the vocals and had lots of precussion and the rain version did have the vocals and had less precussion. Taking all of this in mind know that the rain version of a track is typicly the complete and proper version of the track with the thunder version typicly only there to makė a battle stand out more and is in very rare cases better than the rain version. So in short, if you decide to react to funeral of flowers, make sure to listen to the rain version of the track it is FAR better. Sorry for the wall of text, i love your video and cant wait to see more of them.
Man, these reactions are so damn entertaining. I just love seeing these game OST breakdowns from the perspective of a classical singer. If you take suggestions "Astalgia of Phantasm" from Lost Ark is a really beautiful track for a soprano voice! Keep up the amazing work!
Just found your channel today and was wondering if you’d done a video on God Shattering Star! How serendipitous haha. Really been loving hearing your thoughts on the Nier soundtracks and I’m so happy Fire Emblem gets a moment in the spotlight :) Praise be to tenors lol!
Should check out Family Jules feat. Joe Zieja's cover of this. Joe is a voice actor in Fire Emblem, and it's his character that is tied to the route that leads to the final boss featuring this song. He's not a professional opera singer, but he seriously did a great job of the vocals.
Amazing, I love this song! Did you know Claude official english VA did a cover?! He's no professional Opera singer, I think, but he killed it. It's a metal cover with FamilyJules, and the name of Claude's VA is "Joe Zieja" It's here on youtube :D
Just found your channel recently and I already adore the work you do. Not many people talk about the beauty of music in games, especially from the angle of a singer feeling out a composition. Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts and listening with use/with you. If I could recommend and you've never heard the OSTs before I highly recommend Mitsuda's work especially on Xenogears/Xenosaga/Xenoblade. "Albedo" - Xenosaga 1 is a very classical opera. "Fatal Fight" #1 or #2 (I prefer 2) from Xenosaga 2. And especially "Godsibb" from Xenosaga 3 which I can't acclaim without spoilers so i won't and just say it is a great piece.
You should look at some other Fire Emblem final stages like Id: Purpose, it's a duet I'm pretty sure. Lord of a Dead Empire, The Scion's Dance in Purgatory, Twilight of the Gods from FE Echoes are also great. Going My Way from Fire Emblem 7 is also pretty bangin.
I just love to see my favorite pieces of video game music getting dissected and analysed. Often, when you talk to people about video game music, the fact that its linked to video games seems to decrease their anticipated quality of it by a significant margin. I just think its a medium with so much potential when it comes to art, be it in Music, Visuals, Story, or all of those, plus a few others. Its a very young medium, that unfortunately seems to already have too many conflicts between its role as a product seller, and an artform. I hope more people like you, who actually is a pro in the music field, give it the time and recognition it deserves. Maybe someday, no one will look down on video games enough to say : "it could never be art".
I like your videos on these songs, I’ve also developed a love for these types of songs too. I’ve heard you mention the word “aria” and I thought you could make a video on a song called “aria of the soul” a song that is important in the persona series. It’s got it’s highs and lows and I feel like you would like it. I absolutely love that song!
I think you encapsulated the essence of this song with your review! Awesome job! Also you're tenor voice is great! Looking forward to more! If you want a suggestion for a song that's pretty awesome too, I'd suggest Daughter of the Dark God! That one slaps pretty hard too!
The mix of rain and thunder, the two versions of the track, is nice, with thunder playing first to give you an idea of what is going to come with rain having the melody. In the game, rain plays over your choices, while your controlling your units, with the vocals going away and the music going into that thunder track right where rain was to be like the thunder of the battle as you fight against this undead god like being. Honestly this fight is amazing and the music blends in very well with what’s going on with the game. Nemisis is telling you that he will kill you and your friends, and once he is done that he will rule over Fodlan, him speaking a dead language in the form of the lyrics but with every fight you and your army engage in and every soldier fallen you are ignoring this self proclaimed god wrong. The fact that the leader of this run, Claude con Riegan, has the star crest, being the one to shoot the arrow that ultimately shatters this god like being, is amazing. Best fight in game, by far
"Can we talk about how much is happening in here?" Yeah FE3H mixes styles and instruments that I wouldn't believe would go well together... until the battle grid opens in front of you and you start planning your moves. And then the background music becomes downright soul shattering epic. The whole soundtrack is actually incredible. I really appreciated your video, as always!
I have been super excited for this reaction!! Thank you again for the top tier content. If you don't mind, I'd like to recommend another fire emblem track: "Lord of a Dead Empire" from shadows of Valencia. It's a song that some fans say walked so God shattering star could run! 😄
I just noticed another person has already recommended it, so I'd like to double the request for this track😆!! Here is a link, which even has some translation/lyrics: th-cam.com/video/MyFHihJrw4g/w-d-xo.html
This same singer sang another Fire Emblem track named Lord of a Dead Empire. It's very strong, but also very emotional. I recommend you react to that as well!
I absolutely love your reactions and it always brings a smile to my face. Watching someone absolutely enjoy and be surprised by video game music warms my heart, and your unique perspective as a musically trained artist makes your commentary even cooler. Keep doing what you do. 💜
Knowing your background, and loving your NieR reactions, as well as being a big fan of NieR, Fire Emblem, and this song I can confidently say I NEVER CLICKED FASTER
Opera singers are so awesome! It's something that always interested me but I never got a chance to get into it. Anyway, glad to see you reacting to one of the best pieces from Fire Emblem ever created (and it has some REALLY good tracks). ^_^
From this same game, you should definitely check out "The Apex of the World", it's another fantastic piece that although doesn't have vocals like this, has nonetheless some incredible chorus. Now then, I am by no means versed in opera singing, but if you're looking for some interesting pieces that use opera voices with non-orchestral instrumentation, I can recommend "To become God's enemy" from Shin Megami Tensei 4 Apocalypse, as well as "Narwhal" from Punishing: Gray Raven. In a more varied setting, there's the NieR: Automata soundtrack. There're a few pieces with opera singing, but overall the OST is top notch.
Yeah this song is one of my favorites in all of gaming. It’s cool to know that it’s sung from the final bosses perspective and it’s about him trying to rally his forces against the players army. Truly legendary
First time I played the map this song’s featured on, I had to put the controller down and take a second like “wait, what is going on” and gather my composure before I could play said map. I remember being both distracted and hyped up as I was playing the map, it made the battle in question so epic. No other track in the game is close to this one in style so it was such a surprise. The whole soundtrack is great but this one truly is something else.
Caught this off the TH-cam algorithm recommending things to me, glad I found ya. It was really fun watching the appreciation and fun on your face listening to the track. And I totally agree, video games have been providing us with some absolutely amazing music and this niche deserves a lot of respect. Gonna stick around, earned a sub
12:26 Ha, that's a really interesting response that unlocked something I've never thought about with Three Houses. I think you mentioned in another video that you like FF's music? I'm not going to be specific for the sake of spoilers, but you know how a certain theme close to the end of the most recent 14 expansion, is, essentially, the Warrior of Light's boss music? For this part of the game, there are multiple 'God-Shattering Star' level people, depending on certain plot details and interpretations, with /you/, the player character, among them. So, with your comment and general thoughts in mind, it's like all these beings are gathered in one place, ready to fight.
I fought it on Maddening as the last route of the game. I burned through this game like a fire because I loved it. Went Black Eagles (Church) first. Then Blue Lions. Then Black Eagles (Edelgard). Then Golden Deer on Maddening (my only maddening run). When I got to this final battle I was absolutely blown away. I remember saying I wish I had done it first. The story is better on this route and this battle and music is just so perfect. There are truly no words to describe it.
Golden Deer was my first house in the game, and *man* did I choose correctly. What an amazing group of students, and the story was just as epic as this song!
The explanation of the song's compositional intent at 12:36 perfectly describes Lysithia having a 56% hit chance with half my party dead, to take out the last HP of the boss in one more move, and only 1 time-rewind left.
The whole soundtrack is amazing, if you'd like a suggestion you should check out Awakening, The Apex of the World, Chasing Daybreak, Arcana Code and The King of Lions, as they give you a different feel of what could/would be happening when the song/s play. Also, a game suggestion, Xenoblade Chronicles (the Definitive edition) because the music in that is also incredible. 😊
In the game the game fades through two different compositions of each track; one when you're on the overview screen and is a bit more tame, and one when the camera pans into a unit's fight that's really percussive. The track you listened to is a great mix of the two by the TH-cam channel Helping Hands
I'm so glad you finally reacted to this piece, is an amazing theme for one of the most hype parts of the game! Glad my recommendation and many other people recommendations didn't go unnoticed
Yes! More of these please! I love how you said that this is a final boss that is meant to confuse the players. Yes, it does. It really does fit as the map of the final boss push the player to the limit.
Really happy I watched your take on this song. Coming from a Brass background, I understand things closer to the symphony side of this song. Which is also where a lot of people focus on. Glad you enjoyed it!
My brain paralized for a second until I realized you listened to one of the 'Storm' arrangements. (Three Houses OST is generally split in 'Rain', a much more melody focused version, and 'Thunder', a much more rhytmically heavy version) 'Rain' being the sung version and 'Thunder' being the instrumental version
This is indeed the music for during the final boss of 3 Houses. Well one of the final bosses I should say considering there are multiple routes. One personal recommendation I have is "Lost in thought, all alone" from Fire Emblem Fates/Conquest, might be the most watched ost of the franchise (and in my opinion sounds beautiful).
I'm here because my son wanted me to hear the song - and I'm an old who has a background in classical music. I loved watching you react as I listened to the song for the first time, and when you shouted "this song slaps!" I subscribed to your channel. Thanks!!!!
I just found your channel and it's so good to see someone bridge my favorite genre of music and second greatest love to a dear hobby. This isn't on Fire Emblem's track, but regarding classical (I had no idea where else to post this or search for this info lmao), but what are your favorite operas, composers, lieder, other classical work? And I love the tenor focus here, Der Rosenkavalier is my favorite work of music and you know about Di rigori armato, which is gorgeous. Thanks for your time.
Oh gosh. I have so much to say about this but don’t have the write words. Puccini is my home boy. I sang Tosca 3 times professionally. I love Eugene onegin, Verdi - un ballo in maschera. Ugh the list goes on and on and I love der rosenkavalier!!!
@@MarcoMeatball How interesting, I would have loved to try opera singing in another life but just, restrict myself to distant admiration as a listener/hobby harpist. I'd be more than fascinated in learning about the facets and dynamics of your professional career, especially as an Italian tenor, with access to all the wonderful Monteverdi, Handel, Metastasio's libretti, and many others. And yeah Puccini's def good taste, I'm watching Madama Butterfly at my opera house next year which is always a delight, and on that note, Nessun Dorma could be a good aria to share with your watchers if you've sung that, transcendent as it is thanks to Pavarotti, but I'm sure you have a good ordering thought out. Tchaikovsky
@@surskitty2618 love reading this. I’m running out of videos of me actually singing but nessun dorma is featured quite a bit in my intros :) just started adding it to all of them but. Check the kaine salvation video for a snipped
@@MarcoMeatball That was amazing! What a surreal and galvanizing experience to talk with an actual opera singer. I went through your video here and it was a delight, as is knowing your channel is active. Very excited to see where else you take this. I liked your section about the variety of opera types being regional instead of this atomic singular like the intermedi, semi-opera, tragédie lyrique, and the preliminary description of arias which anyone reading should also note contrast with the diegetic recitative, so most of the famous opera sections are these time-stopping, flourishing arias. I have not yet watched your other videos to know if this is redundant but that distinction has been like a colossal polemic issue in the history of opera, and game music is so interesting and worth investigation because of questions kindred to the flickering of recitative and aria, like the relationship of the music to the internal logic of the work, and where in the world it really comes from.
I love that this is the "triumphant" of the 3 end-boss themes in this game. The other two ("A Funeral of Flowers" and "Apex of the World") are both much more somber, because they are much more bittersweet and conflicted. This boss is the only one that FEELS like an unambiguous victory (mostly because you did the bittersweet fight two chapters before this).
Just recently found your channel and it's amazing. It's great to hear the thoughts for these pieces from someone who knows their way around music (and who's also a gamer too!) I'm looking forward your impressions on more songs from these great game franchises, specially the NieR ones! You should also listen to Daughter of the Dark God from the Octopath Traveler game. That game has such beautiful music too. Anyway, hope you have an amazing day!
The music in this game is perfection. The metal covers done by Family Jules are absolutely worth checking out too. This one features the voice actor for Claude singing and it’s amazing.
The first time I heard God-Shattering Star, I had no idea what kind of song I was about to get. See, Three Houses has four different routes, and I had just finished the Blue Lions route before the one this plays in, the Golden Deer route. The final battle for the Blue Lions plays Apex of the World for its final battle, so I was fully expecting that to play again coming in. The pre-battle preparations are finished quickly, a short cutscene plays to demonstrate the terrain effects and point out dangerous enemies throughout the field, then that *bass* just punched me in the gut through my tv screen I was like, "oh this is gonna be good" and just kept playing like normal until the song fully kicked in, at which point I legit dropped my controller to the ground and just stared at the TV while the song blasted through my apartment, and just sat in complete shock until the song finished, at which point I went "god *DAMN*" and kept playing the battle, a newfound energy flowing through my veins to this day God-Shattering Star is my favorite boss music, hands down
as an opera singer myself and someone who looks into being a voice actor, i think it’s incredible when two things i admire conjoin- making something so lively in music as similarly as they do on stage.
14:01 if you wouldnt mind, i'd very much be interested in a video about that! also i'm sure someone mentioned this already, but just in case: for every soundtrack in fire emblem there's a "rain" and "thunder" version. the rain version plays while you're observing the battlefield, moving your characters etc. the thunder version play when you engage in battle. they connect seamlessly while changing and it's all super well made and really clever imo. what you reacted to was a mash-up of the rain and thunder version, which is why it sometimes sounded all over the place and also why it's so long!
It's always fun to see more people react to this piece. I knew the song was coming before I got to the final boss, but it still gave me chills when it started. Definitely one of my all time favorite final boss themes.
i've done myself a disservice having only listened to this song like...3 or 4 times that said, the deer route was the last one i did after a long break from fe3h burnout. i'd heard ppl talk A LOT about god shattering star but never EVER heard it until finally reaching it in game and i was blown away. all the talk and praise it got was beyond well deserved cause holy wow. very fun listening to your reaction to such a crazy awesome piece
I wonder if you've had an opportunity since this video to listen to the versions done by Joe Zieja (the voice of Claude in Three Houses) and FamilyJules-- they did both a version with the original lyrics AND a version with lyrics in english, which i believe they adapted from the official "translation" of the original lyrics and modified to fit into the flow of the song. I'm sure it's been mentioned in the comments already, but they are definitely worth a listen if you haven't!
going through highschool choir i always wanted to be a bass, and while bass is really fun, theres just a certain itch that seemingly unrealistically high notes seem to itch, "made of stone" from the Hunchback musical is a particular one i have to point out, as its my daily commute belting song
I think you would love "Funeral of Flowers" from the same game and written by the same composer. If you like your Scriabin, you'll love the tempo changes and finish especially lol
Ohhh, I definitely recommend checking out FamilyJules Metal Cover of this if you haven't already. He teamed up with the voice actor (Joe Zieja) for the main character of the route that this song appears in. Very fun cover and I think Joe killed it with his vocals.
If you have the time I'd highly recommend you check out "Stained, Brutal Calamity" from DM DOKURO. It's the current final boss theme for a Terraria mod but it slaps just as hard as most tripleA titles' tracks and was made by basically 1 person (+ one very talented singer). One music producer (who also sang a part in the song) and 1 Singer who sang for an entire choir which makes up the majority of the piece's lyrics. It's really incredible for how limited it's production was.
@@wickedwilfre8348 Roar doesn't really have anything in common with opera, etc which is why I recommended SBC instead. The choir should count and its just as much of a banger if in another way.
If you enjoy this you may want to look the cover that "family jules" did of it. He even got one of the main voice actors of the game to do the opera vocals
The great thing about writing songs in a fictional language is that you can accomodate your "lyrics" to make sure your singer's voice shines
Just like “Kaine Salvation” in NieR: Automata. They call it Chaos Language
Pretty sure it was latin
@@makama489no it was a made up language. Marco here actually speaks latin, and he always comments on the latin in videos that have it. Here he made no mention of any latin, and even the creators of the game stated the language spoken isn’t any real language
So do the "lyrics" in God Shattering Star mean anything that you know of?
@@zandalff yes, the creators of the game made an official “Translation”
Interestingly, God Shattering Start, while a final boss song, isn't for a final boss that is a gigantic colossus or the like as one would think, but rather a human. By no means a normal human, quite literally a god-slayer, but the enemy is in a frame of a human. This, I'd say, makes the music work even better, giving a large than life status and oppressive feel for something that is not much bigger than you, but an incredible ancient evil nonetheless, making sure you don't underestimate them as anything close to a regular human.
would also love to add this is only one final boss out of 4 (or 5 if you count the side story). The game is so good.
"not much bigger than you"
Nemesis is an absolute unit tho
@@theheadguy1212 Not compared to the Dragon who is the boss on two routes.
the thing is most fire emblem final bosses are generally dragons and the most epic song in the game being the boss theme of not a Dragon, not the Corrupted Demonic Empress but the boss theme of just a man with a sword just increases the both the epicness of the situation and adds to how big of a badass Nemesis is.
@@isaachepworth7860 Or the "Thing" at the end of the DLC.
3 small fun facts
1: this is one of 4 tracks in the entire game with vocals, and the only one with a male lead
2: this song is sung ENTIRELY in Födlansk, a fantasy language made specifically for this game made from mashing latin, german, and norse
3: this is one of the final bosses, whos literally just an anime dude who happens to wield a sword made of *gods spinal column* , and depending on if you are just moving around the map or fighting it switches between the vocal and instrumental version which were mixed here
Is the official name Födlansk/Fódlansk, or is that a term you made up? Either way it's cool as hell and I'm saving it for future reference
@@somerandomgoblin2583 i think its the official term, i might be misspelling it though; the wiki and/or the collectors edition box would have the proper spelling

what's the 4th song with vocals again?
@@Crowfather7 the 4 songs are God shattering star, Edge of Dawn (various versions), Annette's food song, and the song of the Goddess (Rhea's Lullaby)

God, can you imagine the acoustics of God Shattering Star belted out in a symphony hall? Like, it's intense just from the song itself from its own soundtrack, but in person? I bet it'd blow you away so much harder.
What I would give to be at a Fire Emblem concert
I would happily do the vocals for it. I haven’t sang professionally in a few years due to Covid but I would gladly come out of the woodwork for it. Not that I’m all that good anymore, I lost what I didn’t use. To those singers out there: practice and take care of your voice it IS an instrument that needs constant attention to maintain like slide grease for a trombone, Rosen for a bow, or oil for a valve.
I think I would just die on the spot tbh
Lyrics from the official 3h ost booklet:
Arise, you who cannot bear death
Raise your heads bravely and take up your weapons.
Let your bodies tremble
Let your souls do as they wish
Like the wind that blows through Mother Earth(Fódlan)
Like the sunrise that colors the great Ogma
Stamp it out, raise your voice, strong as a lion.
Our cries will ride the wind for a thousand miles.
Let it reach the starry shores of the sea.
Reach high and praise me, for I am the one who will liberate you all.
Pierce the sky, mysterious artifacts
I am the embodiment of wrath
I am the god shattering star
So it's literally Nemesis' propaganda speech damn
SPOILERS FOR THREE HOUSES:
Btw fun fact, although the lyrics are in a fictional language, there is an official translation, and the song's actually from the perspective of Nemesis (the final boss of the "Verdant Wind"/Golden Deer route that this song belongs to).
@@slayeroffurries1115 Yeah, kind of sad it's never really explored much outside of the lyrics.
@@billvolk4236 Wait what?
@@billvolk4236I find it interesting how there’s a clear parallel to Edelgard and her ambition to spearhead things despite the current theological rule status quo. Really shows how no one on any side is 100% in the right in their goals and ambitions.
So interestingly enough Joe Zeija, the voice of Claude, whose story gets this song for the final fight did a cover of this song with TheFamileJules who does a bunch of video game covers, with Joe taking the vocals.
Yo that’s cool. Thanks for saying this because now I want to find it
Didn’t know this, now have to do investigation.
I actually liked theres even more
If I recall correctly the male voice is that of the actual boss for this battle. So he's singing his own boss theme.
Wow whattt
@@Legion19911009 yeah pretty much what I was gonna say. A medley version best simulates the feel of switching between the two versions of the song
It’s actually called “Thunder” version, not Storm.
My personal favourite mashup between the Rain and Thunder versions is the one by ZXApocrypha. It lets both versions properly _breathe_ without having them overstay their welcome either.
Oh my god YES he needs to hear "twillight of the gods", one of the most insane music ever produced on a video game in the last decade
This is actually only one of three final boss themes though it is the best in the game. Apex of the World- Azure Moon and Crimson Flower
Funeral of Flowers- silver snow
And God Shatering Star- Golden Deer
Each fits the scenario you're dealing with Apex of the World:The final end to this long bitter conflict after one final push
Funeral of Flowers: Your victory has turned into a tragedy due to an unfortunate event
God Shatering Star: Fighting a myth back from the dead who wishes to see all that you know and love destroyed.
Why didn't you say Verdant Wind, but all the other route names?
@@jonathanflanagan1504 I have no idea
There's also At What Cost ?, from the DLC.
Good luck.
And the funniest part is that God Shattering Star is for the canon final boss. Yeah, GD is canon.
ID Purpose is also a banger in its own right
A fellow Echoes fan I see. An additional banger from the Echoes soundtrack is Heritors of Arcadia, the song played during the credits of the game.
Don’t Speak Her Name is a good one as well.
@Mario Alberto Moreno yeah! That one is from Awakening! It's been a while that I do not play Awakening. That is from the final map, right? If it is so, I like that music as well but Twilight of the Gods is still my favorite
@Kamui Dragon that one is very emotional. It hits hard every time I listen.
Grateful to have you here, friend! Tenors forever!
Best leader!!!
I'd hoped one day you'd react to God Shattering Star, the reactions of many people (myself included) were just awe and surprise. Here is a side note for context, this is indeed the final boss track of one of the routes, Golden deer.
well, the game itself mixes the 2 versions in the battle, so I don´t see a problem with the fact that this is a remix of both too
@@marioalbertomoreno3819 the game switches between the two tracks, but they’re composed as two separate songs. There are vocal sections from the rain track that you don’t hear in this video because the thunder track doesn’t include them. This mix simulates the gameplay experience somewhat, but you miss out on great parts of both tracks because the other one was chosen
Technically it has four routes, there are two possible part twos for the Black Eagles.

Heck yes! He has to react to those songs. Octopath's OST is such a banger
Agreed! Both very epic. Gotta listen to them both in order though in my opinion. Might as well be one song
Oh hell yeah
Super agreed, Octopath has some great music
Ooh, wish he did the mix version that had the lyrics throughout.
So, rain?
@@Mortal2064 Rain and Thunder played at the same time, overlapping.
God Shattering Star in particular does a good job of immersing you in the idea that "Hey, this ain't no regular fight, be on your toes and be prepared to take risks and make sacrifices."
Side note: Part of the reason I cried at the credits was because Lorenz died in that fight in order to just barely let Claude finish the boss with a ~20% critical hit. Hate that guy, but he's a champ for that one. Godspeed, and may your hair look better in the afterlife, Lorenz.
I ADORE the dread that the intro gives me. It’s perfect.
i still vividly remember pressing start on this battle and just LOSING IT over the music. i sat there for so long not even making a move, it was amazing. i’ll never regret playing the golden deer route for my first playthrough cause this was such an experience.

Hey! I just wanted to note that this particular song is a mix of both versions (the overworld and the in combat versions) of this track from the game it comes from and I am so glad you reacted to this as I and many others see it as the best version of this track. As always, so insightful and keep doing what you’re doing! I love these vids!!
Thank you for mentioning this, man.
Aw I’m really thankful you like them. I’m literally riffing and waiting to see where my brain goes 🤣 I appreciate the recc!

I really appreciate your words. I was taught to use emotion to feel so I try to lean on that. :)
I was among those who recommended this song (most probably not the only one), so I clicked without thinking. Got what I hoped for 👍
You should look at some other Fire Emblem final stages like Id: Purpose, it's a duet I'm pretty sure. Lord of a Dead Empire, The Scion's Dance in Purgatory, Twilight of the Gods from FE Echoes are also great. Going My Way from Fire Emblem 7 is also pretty bangin.
I am so happy that you're getting into the Fire Emblem: Three Houses music!
I’m gonna include them here and there! It’s a kickass soundtrack
Best song to nuke an eldritch horror to
I like your videos on these songs, I’ve also developed a love for these types of songs too.
Here is a link, which even has some translation/lyrics:
th-cam.com/video/MyFHihJrw4g/w-d-xo.html
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Literally looked back at this song for the first time in like a year to find this
First time I played the map this song’s featured on, I had to put the controller down and take a second like “wait, what is going on” and gather my composure before I could play said map.
Thank you Connor!!! I appreciate your words :)
I don't hear you sing alot but when you do it hits my soul
I fought this final boss on Maddening mode and I was feeling the weight of this song, God Shattering Star.
I always loved thing particular map because of God Shattering Star, even more if you imagine that Nemesis is the one singing.
In the game the game fades through two different compositions of each track; one when you're on the overview screen and is a bit more tame, and one when the camera pans into a unit's fight that's really percussive. The track you listened to is a great mix of the two by the TH-cam channel Helping Hands
When I reached the battle, I just sat there for 10 minutes listening to the score. I was overwhelmed, hearing it for the very first time.
I'm so glad you finally reacted to this piece, is an amazing theme for one of the most hype parts of the game! Glad my recommendation and many other people recommendations didn't go unnoticed
I told you I read every comment 😉
Thank you for covering this! One of the greatest OST tracks in the FE franchise!
Swear this song never fails to make me tear up
Yes! More of these please! I love how you said that this is a final boss that is meant to confuse the players. Yes, it does. It really does fit as the map of the final boss push the player to the limit.
Informative and entertaining analysis. That's worth a sub!
Really happy I watched your take on this song. Coming from a Brass background, I understand things closer to the symphony side of this song. Which is also where a lot of people focus on. Glad you enjoyed it!
My brain paralized for a second until I realized you listened to one of the 'Storm' arrangements.
(Three Houses OST is generally split in 'Rain', a much more melody focused version, and 'Thunder', a much more rhytmically heavy version)
'Rain' being the sung version and 'Thunder' being the instrumental version
I know now 🤣
Man thank you for these reviews, they have kept me really entertained. I appreciate it.
That's my pleasure, Daniel.
This song will always remind me of a video of a group of fools using nukes to kill an eldritch god at the center of the moon Europa in Barotrauma.
Thanks!!!!
Thanks cate! ;)
i had the largest, stupidest grin watching you react to this. really enjoyed your reaction and sharing your knowledge and experience to us!!
Thanks Ray!
Awesome reaction I never knew the names for the different types of Opera singing, so that was cool to learn.
The pre-battle preparations are finished quickly, a short cutscene plays to demonstrate the terrain effects and point out dangerous enemies throughout the field, then
that *bass* just punched me in the gut through my tv screen
I was like, "oh this is gonna be good" and just kept playing like normal until the song fully kicked in, at which point I legit dropped my controller to the ground and just stared at the TV while the song blasted through my apartment, and just sat in complete shock until the song finished, at which point I went "god *DAMN*" and kept playing the battle, a newfound energy flowing through my veins
to this day God-Shattering Star is my favorite boss music, hands down
as an opera singer myself and someone who looks into being a voice actor, i think it’s incredible when two things i admire conjoin- making something so lively in music as similarly as they do on stage.
Yet another addition to the pile of recommendations...: Everything from Octopath Traveller really, but in particular The One They Call the Witch.
It's always fun to see more people react to this piece. I knew the song was coming before I got to the final boss, but it still gave me chills when it started. Definitely one of my all time favorite final boss themes.
Holy crap. Wasnt expecting you to post this one so quick. Awesome stuff as always man. Keep up the good work 🤙
randomly found your channel via the Ludwig video saw classical tenor immediately looked to see if you saw this one. figured youd like it.
i've done myself a disservice having only listened to this song like...3 or 4 times
that said, the deer route was the last one i did after a long break from fe3h burnout. i'd heard ppl talk A LOT about god shattering star but never EVER heard it until finally reaching it in game and i was blown away. all the talk and praise it got was beyond well deserved cause holy wow.
very fun listening to your reaction to such a crazy awesome piece
I wonder if you've had an opportunity since this video to listen to the versions done by Joe Zieja (the voice of Claude in Three Houses) and FamilyJules-- they did both a version with the original lyrics AND a version with lyrics in english, which i believe they adapted from the official "translation" of the original lyrics and modified to fit into the flow of the song. I'm sure it's been mentioned in the comments already, but they are definitely worth a listen if you haven't!
This is the best random video discovery I've made in a long time!
Thank you!
going through highschool choir i always wanted to be a bass, and while bass is really fun, theres just a certain itch that seemingly unrealistically high notes seem to itch, "made of stone" from the Hunchback musical is a particular one i have to point out, as its my daily commute belting song
He def kills it
The moment I began this battle and this music played I just stood there agasp. It's so amazing.
I was so awestruck when I first listened to it, It felt like the boss himself was singing it and it was so incredibly epic I still get goosebumps.
Roar of the Jungle Dragon from the same mod is also amazing. Calamity Mod slaps.
@@wickedwilfre8348 Roar doesn't really have anything in common with opera, etc which is why I recommended SBC instead. The choir should count and its just as much of a banger if in another way.
@@ze_darku_magician5504 Yeah that's true.
Loved your reaction and commentary!
just played this boss fight. Cant even begin to explain how well this piece suits such a complex story
If you enjoy this you may want to look the cover that "family jules" did of it. He even got one of the main voice actors of the game to do the opera vocals
